1. I've never played a Fernandes guitar or bass that wasn't bloody good quality.
2. North Atlantic Oscillation - "Grappling Hooks"
3.
So, I suppose, you're calling me a musical snob then? Dude, just shut your mouth, sit back and relax - I don't have any problem with them, they do what they want, in the end, it's all discussion, and it all makes sense to me, I have nothing to argue with. Clear? Musical snob, you see..
My post wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, it's something I have observed many times. And I'd thank you not to tell me to shut my mouth just because I have a different opinion to yours. You hardly ever post on the forum, and when you do your posts are full of snobbery, elitism & condescension. I suggest it's you who need to relax a little.
4.
There is no shame in playing pop music to thousands of people every night.
I'm sure that Janek, Matthew & all the other tremendously talented players out there have no problem at all taking this sort of gig. I'm sure they love the variety it gives them. What always cracks me up is it's the chin stroking musical snobs who have a problem with them doing it, NOT the players themselves.
5.
Most Michelin-starred restaurants could halve their prices if there was a much bigger market, but as it is, they are small because so many people would rather go to Pizza Hut and eat crap.
Hmm.I'm not sure about that. A lot of the reason those restaurants charge the prices they do is because they WANT to be exclusive.
6. They don't HAVE to "take a pop gig" to pay the rent - they could go & get a sh*tty, soul destroying day job like most other people have to. If they actively choose a career playing niche music that elevates them to "badass muso" status but nobody (apart from a small percentage of other musicians) actually wants to listen to then they can't really whine about it not paying very well.
7. Lovely bass you've got there. Here's a link to a site with schematics/parts lists for the RD electronics: http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/RD.php Hope it's of some use.
8. There's a great picture of a bound headstock (and inlaid JD logo) on the Jaydee website: http://www.jaydeeguitars.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=26 Looks a million times better than the unbound ones IMO.
9. In my experience Zon aren't the most efficient company when it comes to replying to emails. That said, I've never ordered a very expensive bass from them directly so I can understand why you're pissed off. (Not making excuses for them or anything, but they've apparently been very busy with the launch of their import line of basses so maybe that has something to do with it).
10. I call my fretted bass "The fretted bass" and my fretless bass............well, you get the idea.
11. Wavepad sound Editor is pretty good: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html
12.
The Sting version is usually about £100 more than the '51s.
Of course it is - they sting you for another hundred quid......................
13.
Have you got one? There seems to be a few bad reviews kicking about.
I've had one for a couple of years & not had any problems with it. Piece of piss to use too.
14.
With regards the trem bar, it's not actually broken off inside the trem unit, it's just in two pieces so I'll have to get a collectors new one made somewhere.
You should contact Vigier - they may have some old spare parts & be able to supply you with the correct trem arm.
15. A 1/16 size double bass - otherwise known as a Viola.
16.
Ahh I see. Quick setup is a must so I don't lose interest/can get instant results. The ability to put a decent drum track from inbuilt drums would be good, as would a few guitar effects.
The BR600 has got built in amp modelling & effects, and also a pretty good drum machine, which can also be programmed via a PC using software you can download from the Boss website. You can also export tracks as WAV or AIFF files so they can be used on other machines, PCs etc.
17. When I say "Sketchbook" I meant something that can be set up & used quickly if inspiration strikes (it's got built in mics & can be powered by batteries), not that it was of low quality. I should have been a bit clearer there.
18. A weird little secondhand Japanese bass - the name on the headstock was "Raver". It was shorter than short scale, a tiny little thing. Put it through my brothers old Woolworths-bought valve practice amp, which was made for guitar, not bass. Oh yes, and an old Jen fuzz box that plugged into the input of the bass - EVIL sound! Wish I still had that.
19. It depends what sort of quality you're going for - do you want it mainly to use as a "sketchbook" or to produce professional finished work? I've been using a Boss BR600 8 track for a while & have been pleasantly surprised at how good it can sound. They're always on Ebay (that's how I got mine) & you'll easily get one for under £200.
20.
Hi Rhys, Have you any pics of neck and headstock binding? I haven't been able to see the difference, although another member has mentioned that neck binding finishes the bass nicely. Cheers, Lee
I've got a couple of old photo's somwhere - I'll try & get them scanned & put 'em up. (I've been meaning to do it for ages).
21. Personally I'd go for the neck & headstock binding (my old Supernatural model had this, and the planet/UFO inlays). Jaydees without the binding never look finished to me.
22.
The Guitarist has an interesting collection. So far the only one I've recognised is a Shergold 12 string ...
That "Shergold" was a Burns Double 6...................
23. I picked up a bloody lovely Levinson Blade Texas Standard Strat type guitar (lawsuit headstock model too!) in my local Cash Converters for £179.00. It's my favourite six string. They thought there was a problem with it as they couldn't get a sound out of it. They didn't know it had an active circuit & all it needed was a new battery................
