I watched it yesterday. Grim.
I felt so sorry for that poor man who turned down the better paid job.

tbh I don't think that sounds much like JJ's tone, too much treble, a big boost around the 1 -2k Hz gets you nearer, the nearest I can get is using the Zoom B1on sansamp clone for distortion and various EQ
They're all vague approximations at best. Apart from Lemmy's which is nowhere near!

Not unlike JE's awesome Live at Leeds tone the result of having to deal with Townsend and Moon
I reckon JE would have sounded like that regardless!

Have a look for the Undercover Boss episode with Peavey, it's quite the eye opener!

Exactly, there's four possible reasons
1. Personal choice (he doesn't want to use the old tone anymore and is happy to allow sound techs to do as they will)
That was what I thought. He could easily get closer to "that" tone if he wanted to.
It's surprising when you realise a lot of our most desired and emulated bass tones were the result of necessity rather than choice. Roger Glover has often said his famous Machine Head Rickenbacker tone was not to his taste at all, being overly distorted, and was an attempt to cut through Blackmore and Lord's din. He's very happy with his current Vigier tone, but that sounds bone dry and sterile to my ears.
See also, Geezer Butler. His early tone with Sabbath - Fender Precision with flats through faulty amp/speaker was literally the best he could do.

Of course
And damn, you'd have thought that Rush of all people would be on top of their live sound
I expect trying to manage sound in Wembley Arena is a battle you're unlikely to win.
Luckily I saw them at the O2 a few years later and it was glorious - apart from delays caused by a trespassing fox inside the arena, but that probably wasn't Rush's fault.

Stranglers without that bass tone are not Stranglers, certainly not if they're doing tracks from the first three albums which I'm guessing they are, it would be like Rush without Geddy's voice...
Or without Geddy's bass, which was how I saw Rush at Wembley. All boom, no top. I was heartbroken.

Of all the many Thunderbirds I have owned and played over the years, this current Non-Reverse sounded the best of them all. Bright and growly but with massive balls.
Front pickup - instant Wishbone Ash/Cheap Trick.
Both pickups? Entwistle.
Someone needs to snap this up, it's an absolute bargain.

I bought Pat's MXR phaser -I offered to collect it as we live quite close but Pat very kindly offered to deliver it himself.
It's a fantastic pedal in great condition.
Top basschatter!

I used to have a red one of these, I believe? Nice bass. Had to sell it to pay rent....gutted.
"Vampire Kiss", Ibanez called it. It was my favourite of all their finishes but I never saw one outside of the catalogue!
