I’ve found via experience that walking straight into said lumps with a “excuse me” a Marshall 412 and a “cheers mate” ends up with them moving out of the way for good.

That reminds me of something that happened to me many years ago... one of our regular venues was a live rock/metal place of a Saturday night, but then instantly became the local nightclub/disco the moment the gig finished. And of course, the only way out was through the front door.

I'm wheeling my Trace stack out, trying to get through the crowd, most people begrudgingly moving slightly, but this one bloke just would not move, despite several very loud alerts to my presence, so I just thought sod it and started wheeling.

I realised something was up when everyone started screaming. Turns out he was on crutches and physically couldn't get out out of the way of the rolling Trace Elliott onslaught. Oops.

Not great is it. That buyer in the US might have just lost out on his dream bass. Shame on the shop. Imagine if one of us had bought a bass there only for them to renege on the deal and sell it to a higher bidder, proper name-and-shame moment.

  3. Bassbros often have old Alembics at very reasonable prices - a couple of years ago I bought a '76 Series in virtually mint condition. It was listed for £6,500 but I part-exchanged a Rickenbacker.

I know £6,500 sounds obscene but for a bass of that heritage, vintage and condition, and compared to what it would cost new, it's a bargain.

  4. It's a tough one... I'd be drawn toward the 4001 but RIC aren't exactly consistent, both 4001s and 4003s have varied wildly from year to year, particularly in the shape of the neck. QC isn't always the best either so it really is try before you buy if you can.

It's odd that a 70s Rick is priced virtually the same as a much later '03, it's a lot more collectible.
