    My solution was not to have a main and a backup but rather 2 decent basses. At the time this was a Lakland JO5 and a G&L L-2000 Tribute. So rather than have a backup I just had 2 basses i liked and it didn't matter which one was 'main' for that day.

    I rarely run mine on full volume. My usual preference is bass/treb in the middle and scoop the low mids and boost the high.

    I have a 4HH, it's brilliant. A 2004 model in graphite pearl, the best sounding and playing 4 string i've ever had. Only reason it's not my No. 1 bass is the 5 string HS I have, but doesn't quite play as effortlessly as the 4. That aside, what else can do a Bongo ? Nothing really, the 4 band EQ I see as the crucial part of it's flexibility. A bass that's as versatile but sounds nothing like it would be a G&L L2000 or M2000.

    I haven't bought a CD in over 6 years and all the ones I had I threw away. Spotify is my only collection now and I can use it anywhere. My car doesn't even have a CD player, I just stream via Bluetooth.

    My 5HS is modified with a scallop after 24th fret to end of the board. This has helped a lot.

    I played a Stingray in a shop where the EQ wasn't working but it sounded great flat. Then I checked and there was no battery - so it CAN can work without.
