5. Thanks guys, I am quite excited!!!!! "Metaltime": Proper paperwork is in place for that. Craig
 6. I am really flattered by this. I wrote this song in 1994 and recorded it low budget back then, the band it is from is State Of Conviction and the song is "Convictions". Here is the original: http://www.myspace.com/stateofconviction Here is Chimaira's cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE-WL89j4_U COOL! Craig
 7.
Hi Craig, wow! Thanks a lot for your post! Would never have thought that video would work its way back to the band! I have their double live album and was blown away by the level of musicianship present in what we would call a 'club' or 'cabaret' band! If only the UK had a scene like they have in the US or Australia... So how do you know the guys in the band? I'll get onto transcribing the rest of the tune asap....maybe not note for note but as close as I can! Cheers craig
I sent you a message. Craig
 8.
Here's the fruits of my afternoons practice! It's just the intro for now but hopefully get the rest of the tune down soon too. It's called 'San Diego' and is from a live album by and incredible Las Vegas club band called Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns. They do an outrageous Earth Wind and Fire medley too... Anyways, hope you like it, I know it's short but took me a few hours to even get this far! Cheers, Craig Just found a live video of them playing it!!
Stonecoldbass, Heck yeah!!!!!!! Sante Fe are my good friends! You are doing a great job so far on San Diego! I talked to my friend Jamie(Sante Fe keyboardist) and gave him the link to your post. So, the guys in the band will be checking out your vid!! He also told me they just released a NEW record! I can't wait to check it out! They are an amazing band and one hell of a great group of guys! Keep it up and finish the tune so you can post the rest for us to watch! Craig
 9.
Niicee! Really love how you dont chase after expensive basses, Stick with what is best for you, LOVE IT. (Read your interview ) I love the gold hardware on dark blue thing aswell. Good luck
Thanks man! I love those inexpensive Yamaha basses! Thanks for taking the time to post and for reading that interview, I know it is quite a long read, I'm glad it held your attention! Craig
 10. Check it out, Guitar Center TV has posted some videos of the Paul Gilbert clinic I played bass for a few months ago! Paul puts on a great clinic, so these are fun to watch. There are a bunch of others up as well if you feel like watching more of the clinic. Here is some Aerosmith! ............................... 11.
Craig, look, that's easy for example, here's your first link, ok - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93IE1WgvtuM Copy the bold part (that, which goes after this "=" sign), and put into brackets between [yootoob] [/youtoob] (just spell Youtube correctly, ok!).. It would look something like this, in your case: [yootub]93IE1WgvtuM[/youtooob] Got it, mate? Faith
HA!! Yes! I get it now! Thank you so much for explaining it to me! I am not very computer/internet savvy so it is much appreciated!! Craig
 12. Here is another tune from that same show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= Craig
 13. This song is one I wrote in 1994' one of my first bands from way back called "Unified Culture" doing a reunion show last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= Craig
 14.
Take a long hard look and listen to Craig's site, I think its spot on. He covers a huge amount of stylistic ground on it and doesnt over egg the pudding as it were. I have taken a slightly different route I think (see link in sig below), I've got a couple 'working on' tracks, the first being one that I know should interest the people interested in the (sub)genre I'm most interested in (wow, thats a tongue teaser!). I've followed that up with a potted history of (as often as not) live recordings over the past 20 years showing different things I can do and have enjoyed doing, which shows diversity in a band situation (I hope ). I think you have to look at it like this, it is highly unliekly that you will get more than 30 seconds of anyone's time. So the track that is ready to go better be the one to capture most people's ears who you want to capture. So dont have a 1 minute long synth intro. I wanted to get straight to the point so my first and second track s are all bass and drums. Didnt use any other musicians, all recorded DI into a lappie with a Tascam interface. Anything that might put someone off will, so keep it easy on the eye too.
Thank you! I went and checked out your page too. Your page is set up very well, and I like the bass and drum grooves you have put up. Nice playing man! I couldn't agree more on not having a 1 minute long synth intro! I laughed when I read that because I have seen it done before. Most of the songs on my player were done at home by myself as well. I did put a couple "band" tunes up too if someone looks/listens long enough to get to them. My videos are just random finds from youtube. I have but one complaint on your page though, I can not locate your "Add to friends" link. When I visited your page, I wanted to add you to my friends list but I couldn't find it. If it is there somewhere, it is to hard to find in my opinion. Otherwise I think you have a spot on representation of you and your playing. Nice simple layout, easy to look at, loads quickly and sounds good! Great job. Again, thank you for the kind words! Craig
 15.
Thanks, I have customised my page and know lots of musicians in lots of bands. I'm not about to add anyone until I have the page ready to lauch so to speak. I am intending to use this as just another tool. The question is more "What musical content should I use" than anything else.
Hello TimR, I am no expert in myspace and such but........ My suggestion for what kind of music to put on your player and youtube videos is of you playing varying styles to show that you are a competent bass player. It is "MY"space after all so you should include info about yourself as well. Record yourself playing something you wrote or playing something that best represents your strengths as a musician. You are using this as an online resume so make it easy to make sense of. I have gone to myspace pages that are so horribly laid out that you can't read anything due to the wallpaper background being to busy a pattern. Also once you do get it up and running, monitor your comments left by others because sometimes people put huge pictures in a comment. This will make your page load impossibly slow and people will never even get to check you out because they will get tired of waiting for it to open fully. If you want to see my page here it is: myspace.com/craigmartinibass I try to keep the page layout as simple as possible. Like I said I am not an expert at this but so far my page has been helpful as far as a place to direct people if they want to hear and see me play before they hire me. I hope this helps! Let us know when it is ready, I'd like to see what you come up with! Good Luck!! Craig
 16.
I have no problem with people attempting to extend the boundaries of the instrument - I very much enjoy Craig Martini's highly musical and integrated work.
Wow!!! Thank you very much! Craig
 17. Hey guys, I can totally understand not wanting to hear a bunch of w***king in music that does not call for it. But allow me to say this, Let's just say that the traditional roll of a bicycle is to get you to and from wherever you want to go to save you from walking. Would it be a fair statement to say folks like Lance Armstrong are bicycle w***kers because they take the idea of riding a bicycle to an extreme level of performance? Or the guys who ride BMX bikes made for dirt racing, riding freestyle or jumping ramps, flying through the air spinning about? I know there are bikes made for these purposes now, but that's only because someone tried something on a bike that no one had tried before. It became popular due to it being untraditional, different and overall fun to watch. In my opinion, if people stop trying to be creative and do outside the box things on our instrument of choice, we will have a zillion bass players all doing the same exact thing. Everyone will be great at it, but no one will be different. I am all for learning the fundamentals of music and bass playing in a traditional way, that is first and foremost! There is something very satisfying to me about locking in on a groove and staying there while you watch the dance floor move to the rhythm. But if you want to learn to do more, why stop there? Guitars were not really made to be played like Gilbert, Satriani, and Vai play them but it sure is great to watch, listen and be amazed by for some. I guess my point is, if you are happy playing and listening to traditional bass lines, that's great, I love those too. It is all about what you find pleasing to listen to and play, as has been stated above. But if you hear someone who has gone beyond the traditional roll of a bass (or any other instrument for that matter), just realize the person you are listening to has put lots and lots of time into playing their instrument to get those abilities. Countless hours of practice, sacrifice, and determination are required to play at that level. It takes serious dedication! I can appreciate anything that is done well. I don't really like modern "pop" or "hip hop" or modern "country" music, but I can appreciate the craft of it. I don't write those kind of songs, nor do I care to. Much like what you guys have already said here about bass lead music. But I play a lot of that kind of music every week for people who do love it. I see them enjoying it and I get a greater appreciation for the music I wouldn't normally listen to. I say keep an open mind, listen to what you like and turn off what you don't. There is room in the bass world for all of us!!! Craig
 18.
The ludicrously talented yet unbelievably modest Craig Martini posts on here a bit. jimijimmi treads the boards with The Quireboys and Raven Vandelle.
Skankdelvar, You are way to kind, Thank you!! I will try to add something here but I think you guys covered the important stuff. In my opinion what has kept me going is: 1. Always be prepaired for the gig by knowing the material fully. ( I spend a lot of my time learning songs ) 2. BE ON TIME OR EARLY to gigs/rehearsal 3. Be relaxed, don't let little things upset you. No one likes to be around someone who bitches about everything. 4. Have a good bass sound and reliable gear. 5. If you don't know about something............. Respectfully listen to someone who does. 6. BE NICE! 7. (most important.....) DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8. Don't squander you money when times are good, because during the lean times you will be stressed out and may be tempted to give up and do something else that is more "stable". If you plan on touring, Forget everything you know about the comforts of home. At least until you are riding around in you own personal tour bus. Sometimes, you will be hungry, tired, sick, homesick, annoyed, need to use the bathroom, desperate for a shower, and all the while you will need to be on top of your musical game and not be a prick to be around. These are the tough times of touring. The good stuff in my opinion, far outweighs the bad though. You get to see the world, eat food you would never get to try otherwise, hang with other musicians 24 hours a day, play music in front of amazing fans, meet new people you would never have met, and all because you are playing an instrument you love to play. I wish you all the best of luck! Craig
 19. Hello everybody, I posted another new track on my player on myspace. The new song is called "Stay The Course". Like the last track I posted it is still unfinished. Your opinion is greatly valued as this record is going to be geared to appeal to bass players mostly. Here is my page address: www.myspace.com/craigmartinibass Thank you in advance!! Craig
 20.
Absolutely loved it! You are da bizz!!!!! I would so love to play like that, especially the funkybits. I'd really like to see a video of you playing that.

I now want a high-quality version! Do you think you could put it somewhere? Or up for sale?
Thank you guys! I am in the process of writing stuff for a new record that I am going to release. This is a pre-production type recording that I did at home. On this version I used a drum loop that I made in reason. I am going to have one of my amazing drummer friends play on it, as well as the fact that I will be recording it all in a real studio. I put this version up to see what my fellow bass playing friends thought of it before I decided to include it in my plans for the studio recording I am going to do. Golchen, I will make a vid once I finish this record, I am totally focused on getting the writing finished in the next few weeks. Craig

 22.
Like that alot ! What are you using for the synth bass part? Love the little double thumping muted filtered bit at the end, my fave bit, all warm and squelchy like
Hey 51m0n, I use a Korg Radias for the synth parts on this one. I midi it with my Korg O1W. Thanks man! I used an envelope filter and squashed it with compression. Craig
