  1. I have a Steinberger fretless bass and I can’t find out the model. It’s been refinished and fitted with EMG electronics. I saw a XQSTD5 for sale and it looks very similar, except neck bolt arrangement is different.
    Any help is appreciated!IMG_3528.thumb.jpeg.98dc8192dce8093426fed56483bb9d3f.jpegIMG_3529.thumb.jpeg.6d248f368a7ffb5b13acdc86ed2d9411.jpeg

Absolutely- the cabs are certainly not lightweight!!! Actually, neither is the head for that matter! hahaha

I am quite surprised that I managed to fit the lot into a Nissan Ariya haha.

Awesome set of wheels in that pic too man (even if the steering wheel is on the wrong side 😜 )

Haha ! Driving a LHD manual felt weird for a while! I’m from your side of the pond, but have no idea what an Ariya is 😂

    Ooh, that's a nice thing. How's the stringing/tuning process?

The major downside I'm seeing is that every time you played a gig with one of these, you'd have a bunch of curious nerds down at the front trying to figure out how it works.

EDIT: I've also just noticed that there's a routed-in plug of wood under the bridge – did you have difficulty routing the (square?) through holes for the mechanism, or is that just an in-fill for the bridge that was there before

Haha I’ve had my share of bass nerds at gigs!

The wood plugs front and back are just to repair wood defects. It’s meant to be experimental so I didn’t want to risk  messing up fancy wood.

With the Riviera you can only tune through the body. There’s an anchor inside that rides up or down with the tuning knob on the front. I made a template for the mechanism.IMG_1990.thumb.jpeg.66dc4e49049e9445372d2d5db590b1af.jpeg

  4. I also had a go at a mk3 clone, but I was more interested in the shape than mimicking the true Wal sound.
But saying that, I did use Walbuckers and Lusithand preamp just out of curiosity. It’s a truly powerful bass for sure with lots of tonal variation on tap IMG_1763.thumb.png.07308112020351209b43ea28ec94e6d7.png

I have no advice or help for you, but I'm now following this thread, because I really would like a Sandberg Forty-Eight 5-String, but my god the price of them.

I’m getting it Monday, so I’ll give you my thoughts! How much are they new?

    Correct.

They are designed to work stacked vertically, not side by side. The mid coverage pattern is defined by the mid element’s vertical orientation of the mid-high frequency array.

Ok so if the cabs are stacked with the array horiz as it’s meant to be, it still means the four woofers end up in the non preferred arrangement. I assume this won’t matter?

Don't pull down on the string when fretting it.

It's a playing technique flaw. If you can't remedy your finger placement it can be mitigated by replacing the nut with one that has the slot filed slightly more away from the edge. As mentioned earlier.

Nothing wrong with my playing technique. The 5 strings (on the ones I have seen) have been off center, with ample space on the B. Construction or design flaw.
