Just saw this 1968 Mustang, ex Spirogyra. Good price for the condition I think

Still has the mutes too, very unusual.

And with a wider neck and fewer frets than a real short scale bass.
And in most cases bigger body too.
So won't really feel like a real short scale bass would.
Yes not really a real short scale bass; I'm so glad you pointed that out just in case anyone really thought it was really real.
If you don't like the idea, don't try it.
And, anyway, it's as likely to put somone off short scale as encourage them.

Hi, I am relatively new to the bass and I am struggling with hand stretch on the top end of the board. I have read that a short neck, 30" as opposed to the standard 34" will really benifit me as a beginner.
What are peoples thoughts?
Thanks.
There's an easy way to see how a 30" short scale woudl feel for you.
Detune your 34" bass from E-A-D-G to D-G-C-F.
Apply a capo at the second fret.
You now have a roughly 30" short scale bass.
The dots will be in the wrong place but try it.
Or you can play an actual short scale in a shop.
Furthermore, if you are using 'one-finger-per-fret', try instead using 'index-middle-ring/pinkie/together' like an upright bassist, at least in the lower positions.

I used Trubass on a Takamine B10 fretless for a while and they were fine, However I eventually replaced them with La Bella 760FS.

Maybe it’s just my experience, but seriously! 50 years of playing in bands and not one guitarist, singer, keys or drummer have mentioned Kenny Passeralli & Pierre Brock’s contributions? Do they think Mark King is the only bassist worthy of mention?
Fifty years and I agree I have never heard a guitarist, or singer, or etc, mention Kenny Passerelli or Pierre Brocks.
Can you tell me who they are?

So, all in all, Leo got it right.

"Worst" purchase was a Tanglewood Acoustic bass - nothing wrong with the bass per se but who actually uses an acoustic?
I did for several years in an Americana band ... fretless, flatwounds, piezo pickup, and amplified of course.

... The best part of his set imho , was when Mick Taylor joined him onstage . Mick Taylor.played on most of my favourite stones albums ...
I think, before joining the Stones, Taylor played on three Mayall albums - Crusade, Bare Wires, and Blues From Laurel Canyon.
When I saw Mayall at Brighton Dome in the early 2000s, Gary Moore was the surprise guest.
