1. I'm certainly not trying to be rude and I'm interested but given there is a new one on Warmoth for $205 now, I think you price is far too high mate.
2. I recently saw a bloke who was supporting my band playing an ibanez bass through a huge ashdown. Whether it was the bass or the amp I dunno but the tone was colossial. Just absolutely huge sound, very detailed. As a Jazz bass man that really changed my view of their basses.
3. I'd also be interested if it was a different colour. I can't have 2 white fender basses, it just seems lame. Good luck with the sale. As these seem togofor £220 ish new I'd say your price is fair for a sweet bass.
4.
Got my cans from that guy, not used them yet but should be next week. Al let you know how it goes.
A mate just used those on his Warmoth tele project and they are excellent finishes. 100% recommended.
5.
I saw a 'Toka' or 'Toca' (not sure what it was, definately wasn't tokai) copy of a rikenbaker 4001. It felt OK, but not what you get for £399. It was in fireglo, my least favourite colour , but it sounded horrid. The bass was very difficult to play with finger and with slap. The Jayro Rickenfaker mentioned above sounds like a bargain to me!
Do you mean the tokai ones? I saw one recently too. 6. As someone who isn't normally a fan of unusual bass shapes I have to say I really like this. Lovely looking bass. I really like that big ass headstock.
7. I got lucky. Mail ordered a MIM Fender Jazz and it's a great bass for the money, easily as nice as some US ones in my opinion. I DID have to replace the bridge with a Gotoh 201 because the stock one was a piece of tin sh*t! You can play some horrible Fenders though, across the range, guitar or bass.
8. Tried a Jim Deacon SX today. Verdict is yes it's a lovely bass for the cash, yes I would feel comfortable using it in gigs yes I would recommend them to new players but I must say, it just isn't a patch on my MIM Fender Jazz.
9.
Gimme one of these beauties: Jim Deacon / SX FPB62 in vintage white... available for £109 delivered including strap/lead/bag etc, and comparable to genuine Fenders according to Talkbass hype. I want to get one and put flats on it so I can keep my grindy SS rounds on my main P!
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=543329 A lot of discussion on here about it. Seems the general consensus from those who use em are that they are at worst very good value and at best better than Fender models. I really like the look of that particular one.
10. Only bass I have ever owned is a Mexican Jazz with a Gotoh 201. Cost £320. It has got me through a load of gigs and rehearsals and always sounded superb to my ears. Also, when I replaced another bass player in a band recently the rest of them remarked on how much more improved the bass sound was. I love this bass and apart from the day when I can afford a Wal, I don't think I'll need to buy another. I have always thought A LOT of sounding good is in your hands rather than your equipment.
11. What a gorgeous bass. I love thisand would buy if I wasn't buying a house soon.
12. I'm in love with these basses and was wondering if people knew of anything similar in terms of looks and tone on the market. Wal basses seem as rare as holy grails to the average punter. Cheers.
13. Tort. Sorry couldn't resist. I think people are suggesting it because it is clearly the best colour. Black looks sh*t in my opinion. Blue perloid is your only other option IMO.
14. I can see why people are annoyed. Personally I don't mind the design. I think the layout is neat and simple but it's the awful colour options that really spoil a decent design concept. And there is that price tag. That's an absolute joke and I don't buy the exchange rate excuse, to me the exchange rate is no worse than a few years ago before the pound became stupidly strong vs the dollar. The ethos of the thing was meant to be a no rip off one where the company focused on the student rather than profit. Are we really to believe the sum parts of this and the shipping cost anything in the region of £500? This is a total dud.
15.
I have a MIM and I'll start pimping it up now...the Gotoh is cheaper, if it does the job well, I might consider it over the badass...some people tell me there's no much of a difference from the bridge i've got now (original) to a badass or gotoh...some say it does make a difference, I suppose i have to get one and try it myself!
I would be surprised if you didn't notice a difference in tone between an original bridge and a Gotoh/Badass bridge mate. I was happy with my tone before but the Gotoh definately improved things.
16. I added a Gotoh 201 to my White Mexican Jazz Standard. I've liked the bass from day 1 but the original bridge felt like a piece of tin and the G string saddle used to flap about when playing hard. I picked the Gotoh because it was cheaper, I didn't have to put grooves on the saddles and it doesn't say "bad ass" on it! The instalation took about 10 mins to do and little adjustment of the saddles was needed. I had kind of thought that the improvement in tone everyone talks of might be hype but there was a noticable improvement in the sustain of notes and the bass just sounded a bit beefier all round. I'd give the Gotoh 201 10/10 and will definately install one on my next bass (a fretless jazz I'm building).
17. Personally I think nothing beats a Fender Jazz in terms of tone. Low action Warwicks and stuff are comfortable to play but I just prefer the big bodied Jazz and Precision designs in my humble opinion.
