Great info guys, cheers! I'm already thinking that if I happen to be lucky enough to get my hands on the one I've seen, I'll be getting the soldering iron out and wiring it as parallel. Probably chuck a Wizard pickup in there as well. That weird chequer-plate pickguard will be getting replaced too. Good to know they're a quality instrument.

How odd![/quote] No, Road Worn [u]Precision[/u] in Fiesta Red. Honestly, I was blown away by it. And I was determined not to want it, as I always thought the Road Worn range was overpriced. I don't usually like red on instruments either, but for some reason I kinda like Fiesta red. I didn't actually like it at first, it grew on me big time. The fiesta red CV precision looks badass with the rosewood board. I kinda like Sonic blue but it doesn't all come together as well as the Fiesta red. This thread isn't helping- I'm now GASSING for a Fiesta red CV Precision. I guess it would be cool to have a little brother for the Road Worn!

I've seen a Musicman SUB I might be interested in, but I've no idea what they are. Can someone explain to me where they fit in to the whole Musicman family? I [i]think[/i] I get the rest of the range; You have proper Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray's and Sterlings and a few other models which are the flagship USA built, £1000+ instruments, Then you have 'Sterling by Musicman' which are the Indoniesian built instruments which come in a bit cheaper. Then you get the OLP range which are licensed by Ernie Ball, built to their specs but not actually built by them, and they are more of a budget instrument I don't understand where the SUB fits in though. I read, from a description on Ebay, that they are basically a passive version of the Stingray, but this can't be right as you can get active SUB's. They seem to be priced secondhand as a mid-range instrument (£400-ish) but I don't know what the new price was, where they are made, or what sort of role they are supposed to fulfil in the spectrum of Stingrays. The one I've seen is an active SUB, so any words of advice are welcome. I'm interested in how well they balance and how comfortable they are, how well they play in general, and if I'd need any pickup upgrades. If it helps, my other option here should I not decide to go for it, would be a Classic Vibe precision.

I would JUMP on the fiesta red, but I've got a fiesta red Road Worn coming for my birthday Having said that, it's still the colour I like best. TBH I kinda love them all, there is something wicked about the CV '50's. I guess I'll try em all out.

Ah but which model to go for? I've got huge GAAAAS for one at the moment, and being a precision lover, I'm undecided between the CV 60's in Sonic blue and the CV 50's.

It'd be the peavey all day long for me. However- I've played a few Squier Affinity's, and they've not been good, but at least the potential is there for it to be 'modded' if you happen to fall in love with playing bass. A decent pickup combo, wiring kit and a Mighty Mite neck would give you a good gigging bass. What the poster said above about trying out a few is very good advice. Different basses behave very differently, and it's important you feel comfortable with it strapped round your neck.

I've no idea if there is a difference between quality of electronics between USA and Mexican Precisions, but it would be nice if all the electrics were upgraded. Otherwise I may do it myself. Having put a deposit down on a Road Worn Precision just the other week, and read many good reviews since, I picked up on the fact that people were not sure what pickup was used in the Road Worn series basses, knowing only that it didn't seem like a MIM Pickup. Well, I emailed Fender to find out. I think it could have been Geoff Capes weightlifting belt in a former life. Damn quick delivery time to come from Greece, and it makes me feel like I;m doing a bit to help their economy too. Got a free leather keyring too, in the shape of a guitar, with a pick holder built in. Very cool!

If anyone fancies a good weekend it's the annual Cubert Pie and Ale festival, near Newquay, this Fri/Sat/Sun. We played last year, final band to play on the Sunday night and have the same slot this year. It's a great beer festival in a big marquee next to the pub in Cubert, with music all day long and PIES! Also a campsite dead opposite, where we'll be crashing out. My band is called Gallowglass (don't ask...), Kinda Folk/Rock stompy music, perfect for beer festivals. See you there!

Depends on the drummer with me. In our Folk/rock outfit the drummer is very experienced, doesn't do anything too flashy but keeps it pumping with the bass drum, so I follow that. The other band I'm in, the drummer is younger and a lot busier, utilising more of the kit to keep the rhythm going, so there I follow the Hi Hat.

Hello all, For sale here is my Fret-King Perception LE. Some of you may be familiar with the brand, designed by Trev Wilkinson who I think made his name designing guitar hardware and pickups. This particular model is a great Jazz/Precision hybrid- offering up a Jazz-shaped body (American Alder) with a Precision-profile neck (Canadian Hard-Rock maple) and a P/J pickup combo. The neck has a natural feeling finish, and as such is very smooth to play. The action is set up beautifully, nice and low with no fret noise at all. This bass is in brand new condition. I only recently purchased it as 'Brand New' and since then have only used it at 4 or 5 rehersals. The protective wrap of the scratchplate is even still there. Comes with a branded deluxe, fleece lined gigbag, as well as the original guarantee and booklet. Roll off the Jazz pickup and you get classic Precision. Roll off the Precision pickup and you get a funky, twangy tone. However, where it sounds best is with both pickups on full. The Precision/Jazz pickups together give a great tone that still sounds punchy like a good Precision should, but with more richness and clarity to the tone. I sometimes find with my Precision it can sound a bit too dark and muddy, and hence I often fiddle with my EQ to try and get a clear but punchy sound. This bass gives me the sound I want right out the box, and I hardly have to touch my EQ. All in all a very well made instrument, for a bargain price. The RRP on this is [b][size=3]£599[/size][/b] I will let this go for just [b][size=3]£300[/size][/b] postage included. As in the title, I will be in London this weekend so anyone that wants to try out the bass is welcome to. Otherwise I'm based in St. Austell, Cornwall. Marvels are what I use, you need to keep tightening them before each gig though, the strap attachment does come loose. A thread lock such as Loctite might solve this though.

As much as the comfort strapps were recommended, and I was tempted to go for substance over style, I just couldn't escape from the fact that they look a bit cack! Sorry to all comfort strapp owners, I'll eat my words when my minotaur strap eats it's way into my shoulder flesh during the first set....... I'm getting uncomfortable at gigs recently with my new bass. It's slightly neck heavy, and the bass itself is quite heavy, so I end up leaning a bit to compensate and get back ache. I could do with a nice wide one that can keep me comfortable, as well as reducing the neck dive. Price- anything up to £40 really, if it's a good 'un. Prefer a dark brown/tan or black colour leather really. No silly colours or patterns! Cheers guys
