Had a go on drums at a few band practices and have a huge respect for drummers. The co-ordination needed for hands and feet needs incredible concentration. Couple that to keeping time and playing for hours on end and it’s an unenviable task. If a drummer lets you have a go on his kit remember to respect his snare and cymbals, those are his Crown Jewels. I still think the best drummers are naturals, born not taught.

If you’re happy carrying it about, despite the weight, I agree, you should keep it. I had a Trace 715 in the early 90’s, fantastic bottom end and back then and all amps were heavy so no one knew any different. These days I’d opt for a separate amp and cab purely for the weight issue as I’m no longer 25!

Barefaced look like awesome lightweight cabs. What bass amp head do you use to power it as barefaced don’t manufacture them themselves?

I’m with you on this Bassman, I had a 715 combo from the early 90s, had Celestion on the cone and Kevlar was mentioned in the paperwork too 👍🏼

Happy New Year! Sure this has been done to death before I joined, but what’s your latest opinion on good old speaker sizes in your cab? Do you like a punchy 10 or even 8? Maybe a nice 12 as an all rounder or an old school 15 for trouser flapping inducing bottom end? Maybe a blend? Are tweeters the work of the Devil? Who knows? Maybe some sizes out of the ordinary that you’re keeping a secret 🤫 that you swear by for subsonic perfection. Gear is constantly evolving so what’s your top tip for 2022?

As a Beatles fan this was fascinating to watch. Four guys from the biggest band in the world casually sitting around in a circle on wooden chairs, pulling some great songs out of thin air whilst fuelled by toast, the occasional beer and hundreds of cigarettes. Having played in many bands I thought the band politics were highly relatable. Seems whether you’re tiny or massive there’s always that tension over what and not to play and where and when to play it. Paul’s driving the band in the absence of Brian Epstein. John’s wondering if there’s more to life than being a Beatle. George wants more recognition for his songs and input. Ringo is the patient, reliable drummer who arrives on time and always knows just what to play on the track. Give it a watch if you have the time to spare, there’s some real gems in there despite it’s long run time.

I can’t say I remember any of those bands, but we played The Southern Belle quite a few times in the early 90’s, rather than the Woodlands. Great times as I remember 😊

I forgot to ask, which band(s) were you playing with back in the 90’s?, it’s possible I’ve heard of you even if you haven’t heard of me 😬

That 4x10 combo must have weighed like a fridge freezer, my 715 felt like it was made out of stone and that was just a 1x15 combo 😂

Hiya, only gigged with one Rock band called ‘Big Ideal’ back in the early 90s. Did Battle of the Bands and played in most of the usual places in Maidstone, Gillingham and other bits of Kent once or twice. Started out playing covers and moved on to our own stuff. Seems like a lifetime away now, venues gone in a lot of places, but that’s life I guess 😬

Thanks for the advice, I’m leaning towards 2 x 210s now or a single 410 cab, depending on the size and weight. I’ve always had combos for simplicity in the past but the weight and lack of versatility puts me off that route.

Had a 715 back in 90’s, sounded louder than the 150 watts stated! Weighed about the same as a fridge, but I was younger then so didn’t notice! Hugely reliable with a deep bottom end, sold it when I stopped gigging and regret it even today! In the 80’s I reckon Trace was the amp of choice in the UK. Shame they don’t make these big booming, green lit monsters today.

Looking to build a stack for gigging small / medium venues. Would like the versatility of a 1 x 15 cab with a 2 x 10 cab on top for a full range of tone. However I heard some tech stuff somewhere about how mixing speaker sizes can cause issues with the sound. Any tech minded people have some knowledge on this? Thanks for your help 👍

Just signed up. Played in Rock bands in Kent some years ago. Play a Fender Precision and Aria TSB400 through a Trace Elliot combo, well, until I sold the combo! Now it’s a Marshall practice amp until I get back into gigging once again.
