1.
I know it sounds stupid, but are you just playing from tab? and copying basslines by ear or can you improvise ,you will need to be able to this to have a proper jam,i would say this is the turning point for guitarists and bassists.Once you have learnt to use a few well known scales and modes and how to apply them you can get by in most band situations, and construct your own lines.
I'd kinda agree with that bit about learning modes n scales n that. I'm awful at theory, i did a bit when i played the cornet but when it comes to jamming i just do what 'feels' right. People often say 'what key are you playing in' and i have absolutly no idea. My point is that either jam so you can just 'feel' what's good and bad or learn the modes and then fit it in with the improv. part (which makes more sense if you're gonna try and go up to other musicians n ask to jam, whereas i've been playing with the same people for years so then know i dont have a clue about theory). I did once play with another group of people and they tried to get me to play in a key and i had no idea what they were on about, which didn't give the best impression. Though they were also playing jazz, which sounds good but i hadn't really played any before so yeah...
2.
haha nice one thenameistaken. and yes i do understand what you mean ash_sak. a few guitarists have offered to jam with me - i've only seriously jammed with one, mainly cos we were preparing a cover of Metallica's 'Orion' to play for our 6th form leaver's day (and then i got expelled...) i admit, that did inspire me and push me to be of standard of the guitarist who's been playing since he was conceived or something. I just bought myself a squier vintage jazz so that should help me get more into slap and tap and discover the new sounds of the beast. i'll try to do some jamming with other musicians .....and then buy a 12 string and play in a prog rock band......
I can't say i agree with your idea of a 12 string but the rest sounds like a good idea. Being able to improvise is a great skill but it can only really come from playing with other people, or playing with something. Improvising on your own can be really hard to judge how 'good' it is cause it's just you playing and, if you're like me, whatever you do will sound good just cause you like doing it, but as soon as you try it with someone it's utter crap. Just do what you enjoy, sod how 'good' you are so long as it's still enjoyable.
3. I get what you mean. I've been playing for a few years myself, 3 now actually, and have no idea what level i'm at either. It is a very hard question to answer and i've often thought that doing 'Grades' might help answer but then i also think that grades don't assess how into music you are. I played the cornet for years and got to grade 3 (just failed 4) then stopped played for several years and picked it up again recently and i think i play it better now than i ever did then. Though by the 'grading' standard i'll be quite low down. So yeah, grades might give you a standard to judge yourself by but i think you might just want to set yourself songs you want to learn and keep practising till you're of a standard to play those songs. Also work on your improv. it really does help if there's someone you can play with, like i know a drummer and i've been in loads of bands with him and jam with him in various ways as much as possible and we can, i feel, 'read' each others playing. (does that make sense?). So if there's someone you know you can jam with then try and play with them if you can and start jamming with them. That may be easier said than done, someone i know who plays keyboards has only just started jamming and they've been playing/been taught for years but some other people take to it really easily. I hope that makes sense? Try and find someone to jam with and if you want to hear some excellent jamming then listen to jazz. (Roland Kirk.)
4. They used to have 3D images in dinosaur magazines. They were cool. (i wasn't a 'dinosaur kid' we just has them)
5. Not a very constructive comment however, i was wondering if the topic title is meant to be. Summer Bass Bass or Summer Bass Bash?
6. It would remove some potential loss of friends, either through distrust in my ability to organise a party, or at worst. death. But that wont happen.... Usually for band practises we can run a mixer some amps a set of monitors and a pedal board all from one plug and several extension leads plugged into one another. But i have pretty sure that us not being injured from that yet isn't something to be bragging about.
7. I'm using HO7 outdoor use cable cause it's gotta run out to a marquee, and the lower the risk of getting electrified the better (as i think you'd agree)
8. I'm hiring some HO7 extension leads, am yet to actually go to a shop and hire them so i'll ask this there too but as Basschat hasn't failed me yet i thought i'd post this here too. So yeah anyway, i'm hiring HO7 extension leads and was wondering if it's 'safe' to put a 4-way plug adaptor into that. It's for a gig and so the HO7 cable would run out to a marquee and onto a stage then the adaptor would lie on the stage, so it's all covered and such like, and then plug the amps into that. Does that sound safe? I think it'd be 'ideal' to hire 8 or so HO7 extension leads and plug everything in seperately but given i have no great grasp of physics and am used to plugging loads of extension leads into one another and just turning it off when i start to smell burning plastic i think think i'm a great judge of this. Any advice is greatly appreciated. (by the way the burning plastic is from a mixer i liberated from my old school, then had it fixed as it was broken...damn school. And the fan wasn't ever fixed...until recently when it went and started for no reason)
9. Morning. Exploit the knowledge of BassChatters. I do it all the time. Enjoy.

11. I'm organising a gig that's gonna be held in a marquee. I've hunted down some outdoor use extension leads but have to get some circuit breakers (there's a lot of equipment all plugged in that could blow here) So does anyone know if there's a specific thing i should be looking for or if all circuit breakers are the same? (i'm starting to think i should've paid more attention when i was being taught physics) thanks.
12. aa right, cool. well i have flatwounds on both my basses n shall mess about a bit with my amp n see what happens. thanks for that.
13. Morning. I've been trying to work out what settins my fx pedals should be on to play some songs i wrote a while back, but despite fiddling about i just can't seem to get the right noise on one of them. It sounds very much like the bass from N.I.B - Black Sabbath So does anyone know how to recreate that sound? (preferably using any of the following pedals... flanger eq limiter) If not them then any other fx pedal, i have a multi-fx n i might've done it using that but to name all the sounds on that could take a while Thanks. Enjoy.
14. Now that's something i can do easily, we have loads of extension leads lying about the place. And thanks for the circuit breaker idea too, i wouldn't have thought of that. Given you've said a 'good' RCD breaker can you suggest one or would going to Maplins or something and just buying any suffice?
15.
Could you not just get an inverter from maplin and use a 12 volt car battery?
...to google to check out what an inverter is... (thanks for the tip, could you explain what you mean though. I'm not good with electrics)

17. I'm organising a gig/party which is happening about 6m from the house, in a marquee. I was wondering if anyone had done anything like this before and knew about how to get a power cable outside, without the risk of...well anything otherthan perhaps falling over a wire. Would a massive extension lead suffice? or should i look into something a bit more sensible. Thanks. Enjoy
Abakhan Fabrics I'm in Liverpool and their store there sells various types in big sheets pretty cheap. Try the Chester store.
A chester store...i was in chester yesterday... I shall have a look next time. Thanks for that.
21. The RC-20 does have some built in drum patterns but they aren't astoundingly good. They keep rhythm well, as it has a built in...something. I dunno what they called it but quite simply, it keeps time without you having to input what timing you're playing in. But there are very few types of drum rhythm for it to play. I think the smaller Boss loop station might have more drum rhythms, i think i read that somewhere...
22.
Looking for a jazz width nut for a project i'm building. I can pay postage if you want but I can't imagine it being a lot.
Can't help you with the part but you might want to repost in the 'Items Wanted' section. might get more views.
