1.
not fan of ashtray or sharp body edge, but other than that this looks nice. I wonder how much it would be in the UK? Not too fussed about the preamp either, but meh
We actually started our first builds with an passive set up. Basslines STK or D'Marzio. We like to add a 6 rotary Varitone to the set up. As far as European orders, I do provide some discounting to help offset the final cost. I have a passive bass completed and can send you information if you wish. Link to the passive Newport photos. 2. Enough about Hard Nipples. Not blog worthy. Let's get this thing started!!!!
3. Well...I don't think I can say this guy is the worst player. But I could classify him as certainly underwhelming and less relevant. Here he is folks: Chuck Panozzo of Styx.
4. good music. I hope you found the rest of the band.
5. Schecter makes really nice 5-ers that will fit neatly in your frugal budget. Some of the higher end ones sell at the 300 pound level slightly used. And they also make ones brand new at or near 300 pounds. Try looking at: The Schecter Stiletto Extreme : http://cgi.ebay.com/Schecter-Stiletto-Extr...4#ht_2316wt_797 Or The Schecter Omen Extreme: http://cgi.ebay.com/Schecter-Omen-Extreme-...5#ht_2086wt_797 Both are the same with the exception of body shape and the neck profile. You will love these for certain.
6. Okay Folks- I love the vintage Ross Pedals. I've collected several. At times I can't resist buying one when the deal is good or there is something unique about the product. What's unique about this pedal is that it's Mint. There's not a scratch a ding or blem on it. It's as though someone buried it for 25 years and pulled it out in 2010. I got it from a music store that was closing down. I was told that it had been sitting in the back room. There is no box with this unit. But I have a very nice unbranded box I'll send with this one. So you will have a box. This one is a Made in Taiwan which is was what the company decided to do in 1984. However in keeping with the standards, the pedals were made every bit the same way the USA versions. They used the same components. It's a 1984 pedal because the of the first 2 digits in the serial number start with "84". There are product reviews everywhere you look. The Ross is becoming more rare by the day. This one is a one of a kind new. This one I'm asking 68 GBP shipped. Pay Pal preferred. And now here's the photo:
7.
Thats a nice price, but I think you'll struggle in the UK as import duties will add so much onto it...
Agreed. Duties seem to get in the way of everything. But the right bass player will overlook the duties in the pursuit of happiness.
8. amazing...there are a few others after all. I didn't encounter any issues with the nut when I moved the strings up the nut. Though I was fully prepared to have them. it was a nice surprise indeed. j
9. These are really cool basses. The Schecter oo4 sometimes called "Shecterbocker". I had this since 2008 and it was a back up. I have more pictures on photobucket. I bought this Schecter 004 bass new in 2008 as a temporary back up, until I was able to get around to building my own bass. Yes that's right...I build basses with my brother. Il Buscanti!!! I am mixed on this one. Because the damn thing plays real good. The Schecter is a pristine 2nd. It had a small area the size of a dime on the back of the top horn that was missing some gloss. So I bought the bass at a discount, and made the cosmetic repair myself. (Chip is gone for good.) These are no longer made by Schecter. I guarantee, this one is minty. This is an ash body, 2-band active EQ that can be switched to passive mode. Knobs are for master volume pull/push passive/active, pickup blend control, treble, and bass tones. The custom bridge accommodates either string-through-body or top loading. Other special features include jumbo frets, block inlays, neck binding, brass nut, and a 5-bolt neck attachment. I also bought a brand new Gator Hardshell Tolex case for it. The schecter cases are actually made for a different model. But the gators are a perfect fit. This is a light bass. It feels smallish and comfortable. It's easy on the shoulders and feels great in your hands. I don't know if you folks see many of these on the racks in the UK. But the Schecters have a following here in the US. My price is now LOWERED to $539. That included the case which is also in great condition. The price included shipping to anywhere in the continental US. But since most of you chaps live in the UK and abroad, I'll give you a $30 shipping credit. Pay Pal preferred. Because the exchange rate is a moving target, I'll let anyone interested know what the price is in British Pounds when asked. I also just restrung it with a brand new set of Eden Lights which in my estimation are one of the best bass strings on the market. Those sell for $30 a set. That'll be a free add on as well. Please feel free to write me with any questions you might have. Thanks, Jazz
10. Has anyone else bought the earwig? There are more on the Bay... Now bumble bee yellow jacket http://cgi.ebay.com/EARWIG-Headphone-Amp-e...=item45f25757ca
11. Well Chaps...The title should say it all. Fact is that I love the 5-strings because of the apparantly obvious utility to them. A six string is even more, but dimishes the playability and speed by it's width. But the 5-string is right up my alley. I've owned a Pedulla Rapture for about 8-years now and while the low register B is a nice thing, it's not a great thing. I can't find enough songs to justify playing the low "b". So I decided to go the other way. Now I've moved everything north and added a "C" at the bottom. Hard to imagine that the nut is still a fit. But it is. All I did was get the thickest guage (Mediums 50-105) and buy a 36 guage C-string. Badda Bing. The soloing possibilities are great and endless. I did some Waymon Tisdale shadowing and it was like butter. Even on the slap / pluck it's got a cool vibe. I love playing chords with the higher string. They come out clear and even the harmonic taps are a thing of beauty. So I think I'll be staying to the high-side on my 5-er. No I won't buy a 6-string. Too much fretboard for my liking. I don't know of anyone else that has ever done this to their 5-strings. So I won't start a poll. I think it's pretty one sided....But some of you should try stringing the 5-er that way. It's a pretty decent thing.... As always, Jazz
12. I know there are plenty of you ladies and gents looking for a Sabre. I just saw one on the bay. It had a buy it now foronly $1,400. But of course some idiot jerk took the entry bid of $1,200 instead and of course erased the buy it now price. Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/1979-Music-Man-Sabre-B...2#ht_500wt_1128 Jazz
13. Way cool.. I am really now peaked on what you experience with the new 1/4 thru mod. He just put up another Star version on the bay... 14.
Enea has a limited run amp with an image of a "Star" on the top (I call it Star version). It's a different shape. It's as small as thick as a cigarette box. Only runs on 9V batteries...
Here's a link to one he has for sale on eBay right now!!! It's starting at $30 less than what you'd pay online. http://cgi.ebay.com/The-EARWIG-ew2-Guitar-...#ht_2035wt_1113
15. The limited run amp has the image of a Star on the top. I call this his "Star version" and it's about as thick as a cigarette box. A bit smaller and more compact. Get yas self some today....

17.
They're really very different animals, Michael. The Earwig's USP is its sheer portability. It's a 1-trick pony, but it's very good at that one trick. It's a bit bulky for your jacket pocket (though it will fit there easily enough) but you can toss it in a gig bag, or a briefcase, or an overnight bag, and not even notice it's there. Remember to bring a micro-jack cable to link to your phone/mp3 player and you have everything you need to play while travelling. The Bass Buddy is portable, but in a very different sort of way. It's not something you'd casually leave in a gig bag! It's also very multi-functional and IME works best as part of your home music set-up. I use it as a headphone amp which also has great EQ and a compressor, as a DI box when I need one in my study, and as a driver for my Barefaced Midget when the neighbours are away. In truth, the two gadgets don't compete with each other at all. Buy both.
Same reasons above. And the other glaring difference would be that they're about $300 apart in price.
18.
Do you know how much he charges to ship to the UK?
Canadian postage is very reasonable. Jeff
19. I'm actually going to get anothjer one from Enea with the same line out configuration as Happy Jacks. I didn't think about that when I first ordered mine.
20. Here's something unussual....Enea rarely posts up his amps on eBay. But he is right now and it's $30 less than what you buy them for online. Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/The-EARWIG-ew2-Guitar-...#ht_2035wt_1113 However this amp a limited run deal, does not have an AC capability. It only works with a 9V battery. But you'll get at least 50 hours of use with a 9V on these amps. That's a lot of of traveling. So read my review carefully before buying.
21. Hello Chatters- I once left a review on the Earwig bass amp. Enea who rarely posts on eBay is actually putting up one of his amps at $30 less than what you buy them for online. This is his limited run STAR version. It's a trimmed down thin amp roughly the thickness cigarette box. It only runs on batteries. But it's a sipper and the battery will last you over 40 hours easily. Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/The-EARWIG-ew2-Guitar-...=item45eff41809 I gave a review on his product and he makes a great device. He'll even modify it for you prior to shipping. But you need to let him know what you need. He does make special mods to maximize the quality for bass guitars. Finally this amp does not have an AC capability. It only works with a 9V battery. But you'll get at least 50 hours of use with a 9V on these amps. That's a kilo of traveling. So read my review carefully before considering this one. Here is a link to my basschat review: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry664671 Jazz
22.
Having read your original post, Jeff, I specified the components to be exactly the same as yours. I like the ER15 solution because that excludes a LOT of the band noise and therefore makes it much easier for me to sing in tune - I can hear my own voice inside my head, if you know what I mean.
Amen...Beats the heck out of hearing other voices speaking to you inside your head.... Those are pricey products you're using. I saw the website and literally fell off of my chair. I hope you have your ER15's insured.... Hope you like the Earwig... Jazz
23.
Just sent Enea an email to ask if the higher impedance potentiometer and an RC network is standard equipped or and upcharge option. i will order anyway!
It wasn't an upcharge for me.
24.
How about my two vintage Marshall JCM800 heads. Superlead and Superbass Mk2's ? You can see them 'For sale or trade' on (I think page 4 ).
I own one already a black one with mapleboard. I'd love to own two or three or four and this one is tempting. But what I really want to do is take this brown Sabre, strip the finish and refinish it to a trans blue, Just like the one in my avatar!!! Hope you have fun on tour.... Jazz
