Just got in from a Spacewasters rehearsal, going through 3 songs for recording tomorrow. Used my fave Precision as figure best to record with the instrument you play best. Went well, all sounding good. Then we get the call that it’s had to get cancelled due to the engineer having a family problem. Shame but we’ll reschedule.

Edit - I should also point out that a full scale bass (both weight & size) really isn’t the right choice for me now, and although my Precision is my fave bass in all honesty my Mustangs suit the sound of the band better.

So.....what will You choose on next rehearsal - precision or mustang ?

I had a ‘68 with Lollipops from the same timeline and the paint was starting to peel off on mine too (see pic) as it looks like it is on this - could have been a painting issue back then maybe?

I was interested in this, but I’m too far away to collect & when I asked if he would consider posting it to me, he started saying that it would be completely at my own risk, wasn’t convinced that the homemade case would be strong enough to withstand the journey etc, etc☹️☹️

In 3 piece bands i've been in there was no centre stage. Guitarist/singer at one end of stage and bass (me !!!) at other end and we came together in middle for guitar solos on occasion.

Love a 3 piece band tho. When it works it really is the dogs "elbows". :laugh1:

3 piece band is a mystery for me, never had a chance. Only 4-8.

To a large extent Fender did get it right with the P and J bass body shapes. They fulfill the essentials of balance, access, and comfort etc.  If pretty sure that when they came up with them they didn't just draw a shape and say "That'll do". Even the P & J shapes aren't really that far apart. These shapes can be tweaked by other companies, but in many cases coming up a dramatically/instantly recognisable different body shape is to the detriment of basic function.

They same way that  the vast majority of cars are basically the same shape.

    IMHO of course.

Fred keeps asking if the bass can be his when I'm dead, seems like he's hoping I'll snuff it soon! I said it'll be sold on the open market and if he wants to put a bid in, that's fine.

This picture, it reminds me about the great headphones which where destroyed by my cat - the headphones died at age 10, but the cat died when she was 20.

Is there a "best" side?  My face doesn't have one of those!

For me it varies by venue.  Most of the time I play at the drummer's left side when I have the choice.  But some venues with their own backline, the bass rig is on the right, so I go on the right.  It's not my stuff so I don't want to be a diva and demand that it's moved around on my say so.

I don't think it matters anyway, no-one notices the bass player ;)

Agree. When i want to be noticed a bit, in easy bass parts, i sometimes jump a little bit.

well of course you can always remove or reinstall training wheels but fretlines are permanent .. I think of them more like the diagram on top of a gear stick, essential at first but once you get the hang of it then not so much, however its good to know that they are there to fall back on when required. I have heard some reasons to not want fretlines such as they put some people off or others like the look of a plain board, but I suspect some just like to flex in front of an audience. If you want that no fretlines experience then you can always turn off the lights, ..so far I never felt the urge. Fretlines look pretty much like frets to me and I'm very comfortable with that particular look.

    Remove the fretboard.

So if 45 of us each do £500, we're there.

That means we each get it for 194 hours per year. That's over a week, a whole week.

I'm happy to act as the distribution hub so people can collect and drop off. No charge for this service.

So we only need another 43 of us....

    Start searching, cheers !!!

    Bongos.

They look like an overdone, gaudy, tasteless, ostentatious 80s sports car designed by an LSD-fuelled lunatic in the grip of a psychotic episode, available only in a range of hideous, eye-scorching colours that scream of 'Dante meets Bosch in a crack lounge'.

Horrendous looking things. I'd absolutely love one.

If You mean Music Man Bongo - it really looks freaky !!!

Single cut Foderas. They are incredibly ugly and don't sound too special but at least they're incredibly expensive.

You really had a chance to check out Yourself how Fodera single cut feels and sounds ? If it's true - You are a god damned luckey guy. I only saw them once in my nightmare, where Felix Pastorius played at London stadium Donna Lee solo !!!😜

When I used to listen to planet Rock , it always happened to be on . For some reason, whichever presenter played it they never told us who iit was I was hearing . Honestly , it is dated crap . Depressing is an understatement . Morrissey has the enthusiasm of a children's entertainer compared to this drivel . One depressing monotonous tone. She does shout randomly in places , but I can honestly say it was the worst song ever played on planet Rock. I don't miss hearing it ..

The version i just listened was not a song but karaoke for keyboard, guitar and bass. Maybe good for ''psychodelic fusion/acid jazz''.

Great pickup, but utterly tedious and boring to look at though nicer than a Jazz bass. I find them completely uninspiring to play. Every P bass I have had sat on the stand more than sat in my hands. The only exception was a Roger Waters sig that was actually pretty awesome.

I like jazz much more than p. P it's pickups just look too boring for me. What ever - there are 1000 who loves both.

Jazz basses. Nasty, horrible things. It looks like something that was left near an open fire for too long and melted. The headstock looks ridiculously big next to such a narrow neck. Oh and those thin, weedy pickups look and sound like crap too.

And what would You say about precision basses?
