'Practice' night, and I use that term very lightly, is at a time and place that isn't very good for me. It results in me not getting a hot meal that day or seeing my family. It's something I'd be fine with if I thought the others really wanted to get out of the practice room. The 2 guitarists only have to remember fairly straight forward chord progressions, no solos or tricky stuff. Yet at the beginning of every song the phones come out and Ultimate Guitar is referred to. Which is somewhat redundant as the singer wants to change the key of the songs at every practice (there are only 5 songs so far and one of them has been played in about 4 different keys).
Next practice the singer has invited a cajon player along who can only stay for an hour as they've got a weekly commitment that night. And the singer needs to leave early anyway.
It really is a shambles. It's simply not how bands function is it?
Sounds like a bunch of wanna-be, timewasting, amateurs to me. If you enjoy that process enough, stick. If not, walk away. It’s probably not going to change though.

I’ll admit that Ibanez, Sandburg, and G&L make cracking basses…I just don’t get on with the necks.

Not much,really…
-maple fretboards
-Rics
-coffee table basses
-led fret markers
-super skinny necks

Anybody else find a difference in straps? I have a wide solid leather strap purchased in 1975. Never slipped off a bass and still going strong. I bought a padded one last year and had to get those cheap plastic twisty locks to keep it on.

Best live tone was a 63 Jazz, half rounds, music man head into an 18. What I’ve got now might be better…mpv5 through a Trace rig.

That falsetto by David Lindley in Stay always makes me smile. Saw them do that live a few times. Don’t forget Running on Empty on the same album. Another great song in my opinion.
That whole album is amazing….

I would assume that a covers band that went a year without a gig had already folded.
Funny enough, I’m the only one in the group who has come to that conclusion….

I almost quit after the covers band I was with went a year without a gig. After sitting in with a few groups, I stumbled into a country band the seems destined to do everything but get gig-ready. Finally, I got a steady dep gig with another country group of great guys. I’m pretty happy about how it’s headed now.

I’m thinking about only have 2..fretted and Fretless.

This is me as well…I like the Yamaha, but it gets a bit wide at the dusty end.

Very nice amp. I wish I still had my Trace Elliot, it sounded great but because I'm a loud hooligan, I kept running 90% volume and blowing it up. Not so nice to carry though!
My 15” cab is not bad…that 410 cab though…

That looks very much like the C*ck Inn in Werrington, I thought they had knocked bands on the head there, played there many times, lots of changes with management over the last few years made it very inconsistent with band bookings and cancellations.
That’s it…just a misspelling and attempt to avoid the filter

Played in school jazz band at 16. Did a lot of jazz and pit work whilst at Uni. Joined a country band at 19…first paid gigs.

Ooohhh a Pedulla. Don't see many of them about. I'm a bit jealous there.

Yup…this was a rescue bass in pretty rough condition, brought back and now is a joy to play! Still have an issue to sort out with weak signal from the bridge pickup, but doesn’t stop it from sounding great through the Trace rig.

Fair enough. I’ve been playing in bands with him for 20 years so know his style well, perhaps I’m less aware of it these days and just compensate by being lazy and crap 😀
Not really…I think it’s all down to personal preference…😀

Not 50’s country and western, but there is a thin line between some modern country and 50’s rock and roll.
“Modern” country can be all over the map, from straight pop sounds to allusions to old School country to country rock.

Why not?
Super heavy touch for the style, plus really busy in lead-ins… not much space for anyone else imo.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2023?

Best purchase was my Trace smx head. Not much for worst…probably the 4x10 cab that came with it…great sound but could be a lot lighter.
