These are the first exercices for a method I am currently developing. The point here is to tap the CLAVE with your foot and play the notes with your bass. These seem pretty basic, but don't be fooled. Never go for the next one until you feel really comfortable playing the exercise you are working and can feel naturally all the beats of the two bars. specially the downbeats

when practicing right hand technique, I always make my students play everything starting with each one. it is normal to have a preferred one. when I find myself starting all with the same one, I practice the other way around and then the secondary becomes primary and the story goes on and on

I would recommend to strict alternate fingering. if you master that, then to do a rake if needed is easy. the other way around is not so easy

that's is why I never rake. I started my playing doing it and happened to me. then switched to strictly alternating. it was a pain for several months but it was worth it. and you know what? if really needed, I can still do it

Pick or Fingers … ongoing dilemma!!

I am not really a pick guy, but I use it when needed, sometimes in the middle of the song. I see no big problem in mixing techniques -
if your internal clock is ok I will suggest to take some classes with a teacher that can fix your technique, it will be hard to fix that by yourself. you can try a couple of things: if you start always with the same finger on your right hand, try studying in reverse for a while and see what happens try to play in front of a mirror to see if you observe a difference in the plucking with your fingers
