I prefer the Tribs to the USA ones. They're lighter, feel a bit more modern but still have the killer sound.

About £250 is my estimate. And great combos they are too.

Sorry to hear about the dead head - we've all been there!

Does defo sound like there's something wrong with it. These heads are worth around £150, so you need to do the sums to make it worthwhile, I guess.

Stupid question - but you had the gain wound up high, yes? Almost clipping? That will have a big effect on output.

There's a little Ashdown too I think and the TC Electronics new one.

Though I liked the size of it, I found the Little Mark too clean for me but different strokes, different folks...

I'm trialling the Barefaced Compact at the moment and it's doesn't seem to be lacking in punch or bass so far. Had to roll the bass off in rehearsal yesterday. Might be worth a look.

Hello from a lefty - who plays as a righty. You'll find there's a lot of us round here...

Used the southern Compact in anger for first time at band practice yesterday.

We were in a room where the overall acoustics aren't good (every bass amp in our rehearsal place always sounds ropey) but the Compact did a pretty good job. Had to roll off the bass a bit but despite a lack of tweeter, the high notes rang out cleanly. It certainly handled the power without any complaint and didn't seem any less juicy than my normal 4-ohm cab. I really wanted to A/B it against my current cab but there wasn't room in the car to bring both (was giving a bandmate a lift...). So, first impressions are good. So nice to do a one handed lift from the car too.

Looking forward to gigging it in a regular venue of ours in a week or so, where I'll be able to really see how it compares with my current set-up.

Picked one of these up to play in a shop not so long ago - felt like a child's guitar!

Roundwounds, low-as-you-can action and amp with the mids-scooped and you should be there.

Sounds like a muddy sounding bass like a Gibson EB3, played at the neck, with dead strings, through a curly lead into a homemade amp. Not my bag but I think you could get that sort of tone fairly easily if you went back to the late 60s!

Not a digital tuner - but [url="http://www.tunemybass.com/"]this site[/url] is useful if you just want to do a quick tune-up to practice at home...
