Not suitable for our friends over the pond -

That still seems a bit steep to me. I reckon this would play a lot better and is much better value:

Oarsome -
Just concluded a smooth deal on an ultra rare part I happened to have among my spares. It was worth five times what I initially asked for and John, being the total gent that he is, offered not a penny more
Yep, he's one of the good guys. -

I think I'll drop him a line.....

Maybe wait till Rick has been in touch with his Bank Manager.
I can envisage him hurriedly filling out a second mortgage application form -
Wow. Wait till Rick sees this. Puts his collection of Fine Fifties Fakers well and truly in the shade.

I can help.
Can you possibly send me one of the remaining grub screws to double check that I am able to send you the exact one(s) since I can see two types/sizes in the box marked 'Badass spares'.
Address available via PM. -

What a shame .
He must have been the inspiration behind the Derek Smalls character. -

Thanks for the update Dr Frankenstein.... but how is his bass progressing?
Ah, you caught me out there. The bass if fine.
As to the other project, I managed to secure appropriate neck bolts but it's proving tricky to find a suitable head containing brains.
I was offered the head of a recently deceased heavy metal guitarist but, as previously stated, the brains are hard to find -
I've found 3 black speed knobs among my spares if you want them.
I reckon they are to fit oriental splined pots however rather than USA types. -

I suspect the Bass Doc will be your man there... http://basschat.co.u...5-the-bass-doc/

Yup, got black pickup covers if required. I wouldn't get too enthusiastic about the cheap white one from the bay however - the build with bar magnets on the bottom denotes one of the most basic oriental jobbies - much better to go with ones with alnico slugs.
BTW your neck and body build is going along nicely

I reckon Ou7shined is leading the bidding

Hmmm....... got me there Holmes.
Are we sure they were factory fitted as opposed to modified by the first owner?
If you are the original owner of one of them, may we perhaps assume the maker out East did a deal with DiMarzio when they were first being established?
We may never know............ -
Don't beat yourself up over the mistaken DM identification - nobody but nobody knows everything.
Just so happens I know more than most
The Bass Doc.
(*removing covers from pickups since 1964*) -
FWIW I've only ever seen 'Patent applied For' stickers on genuine 70s DiMarzios - never seen oriental copies carrying such a statement - it's a USA thing.
If it's possible to remove one of the cream covers they would have 'DiMarzio' stamped on the inside as extra proof. -

Well, if you turn it through 90 degrees...

Just tried that.......it's upside down -
That illustration of true temperament frets confirms that 'normal' fretting is not an absolutely exacting procedure. In other words 'near enough is near enough'.
Consider how Strat players for instance mess about with the individual saddles to give each string a different speaking length and then check out the bridge on a classical/Spanish guitar - it's a plain bar! - still sounds in tune though.
If you're looking for pitch perfection on every string, every fret, you could be driven round the bend looking at your tuner. -
The explanation for the modifications is quite easy - it made John Entwhistle as happy as a man with three knobs.

I still personally think the Stingray is much more versatile, and much more exciting to play!

So, many years after inventing the Precision, Leo was still 'getting it right' -
Not sure about boiling an egg but, in the right hands, it can cook up a storm.

OK it's ugly and heavy but sounds superb. My Wallace AC5075XT:-
Built around 1969. 2 x KT88s.
In the early 70s when I was young and fit I used to gig a stereo wired bass into two AC100XTs (a lot bigger and heavier!) plus two Burman 4x12s. -

In my case I would choose a Jazz bass - the offset body providing greater coverage.
