Any undue force either by mallet or clamp ain't a good idea. I've seen a fair number of cracked headstocks caused this way.

Just use a round file to open up the hole a tad, trying a push fit after each pass. Hand pressure only should be sufficient.

No, I think you can get a dedicated mute for that purpose.

I bought a Stingray in 1978 and it came with factory fitted flatwounds so Uncle Leo must have thought they suited. Perhaps Ernie Ball flats would be contenders.

I may be able to help with the E string tuner. What happens when you take the tape off?

Well I think it's normal size but apparently when Mrs. BD was trying to reverse park it seems it turned out to be unexpectedly large.

If only everything I had that was of use to Mrs. BD turned to be unexpectedly large (will discreet kindly resist making any further connection with 'reverse parking')

Recently bought by me as a favour for a pal whose playing days are over. First instinct was to keep it as it sounds immense.

However an unexpectedly large car repair bill means it will have to go.

Completed a refurb job on Mark's Hayman 4040 and he has been a [s]nuisance[/s] pleasure to deal with throughout the lengthy process.

Nice to hear he now has a Burman stack to play it through thus completing the Geordie connection.

I'm pretty sure this was a bass commissioned by a customer of mine way back when I had the business of The Bass Place in Newcastle. Jim Cairnes built the neck and I did the rest. But no idea where it is now.

Look like a pickguard has gone astray in the Christmas post. Will get on to the local PO to make a claim.

It may be that Rocco was so used to pivoting on the E A pickup cover that his prototype simply left that one in position and the D G half 'leapfrogged' ahead rather than a straight swap-over.

I can imagine the drawing they worked to showing the E A position would have an arrow pointing to that half saying "Rocco pressed here".
