    Uncle Horrid! Welcome back! :D

    Theng yow.

I'm able to help hamfist on the scatchplate front

And anyone else on the custom scratchplate list.

At a recent gig a mate of mine repeated the old adage that "It's not what you play, it's what you leave out that counts" then followed it up with "and you left some bloody good stuff out tonight"

    'Cheers' I said

I believe The Bass Doc would do you one for less than that.

    True dat.

    I'm back in action now.

BTW anyone I've overlooked in catching up with jobs please contact me and I can promise a swift response this time.

  3. I've fitted a fair few over the years and have settled on a placement where the J is 60mm back from the 'treble' half of the P pickup - that's pole to pole centres.

The precise distance for a 60s Jazz bridge pickup has the effect of it 'bumping' into the scratchplate so spoils the look. And if you go any further back you the response becomes a bit too thin.

Others may have different opinions of course ;)

Very cool! How useful do you find them?

I was thinking it might be useful for reggae stuff (of which I do a lot) and it also might improve note tracking on some effects I use. Now I've seen someone else with a neck pup Jazz bass I must have one. :)

The fiesta red was my main gigger for the best part of 20 years. In that time I was fit enough to carry around two 200 watt valve stacks with the Fender circuit plugged in one and the Gibson circuit into the other. If you can imagine dialling up the Fender jazz circuit flat out in treble mode then dialling in the 'felt rather than heard' EBO circuit/stack it was a hellava wall of sound to be standing in front of.

Is the extra knob on the black one a "woofer" control?
    [/quote]

It is indeed. They both have extra controls - volume for the neck pickup is in the lower horn area and the tone control is where the jack socket used to be.

The two outputs (psuedo-stereo) are actually on the rear of the bass.

  6. A pair of modded Jazz basses.

The one on the left is a genuine 1962 Fiesta red (refin) and the mod to include the Gibson humbucker was carried out in 1970 when the bass would have been worth around £80.00. Apologies to the purist/collector folks out there but I wasn't to know about the huge value hike that followed.

The fretless on the right was built by me later in the 70s.

  7. A photograph would be useful but.....

Perhaps you can confirm whether the formers are grey and the numbering is stamped in either red or black? Usually the last digit applies to 70s pickups so the 6 would suggest the year 1976 is correct.
