Seems like twice as many batteries to fail. I mean the ones inside the bass.

OH! I've not personally come across an 18v built-in preamp, my Stingray is 9v. 

Yeh, sorry. I really should have made that clearer. But I'm thinking that if ONE of the two batteries gets a bit meh, it's going to drag voltages all over the place, and it has all the scope for mix loading the two cell packs and asking for them to leak. I'm just a bit like is it worth it or is it best avoided?
