  1. Does the bridge sit further back on a 4001 to a 4003 or is the tail piece just slightly longer?
  2. I’ve got so many pictures, but they are all not quite defined enough. It’s this one that I’m going to replicate.
  3. Well the bass has arrived at the luthiers, I’m getting a little bit excited now😁 After a bit of thought we are going to put in a Bartolini neck pup. Im struggling to identify the correct knobs at the moment, most pictures I have just don’t show them clearly enough.
  4. This is my current setup, Mesa 800+ via DG Hyper Luminal and AO and then a pair of Darkglass DG410n’s
  5. Not sure what happened there! Yes, the stripes going in along with all the extra holes marks and imperfections. This is my retirement present to myself , I reckon I’ve earned it! I don’t disagree with you at all but I’m yet to find a 4001 for anything like the money I picked the 4003 up for and even then am uneasy with using a 45yr old instrument as a base. If it was going to be a wall decoration or a play at home thing then I may have a made a different decision. I need this to be a reliable, gigging instrument, and it’s nice sometimes to be the first to play something 😁
  6. It was the price and the fact there shouldn’t be any hidden horrors which made my mind up, 🤣
  7. Cheers! Has anyone got a picture or any idea where the extra holes were on the headstock?
  8. Well, it’s begun, I’ve picked up a 2020 4003 from the states at a decent price,(even with import duty). It’s going straight to Steve at Guitarlodge to have most of the clever work done ,new fretboard, headstock wings, skunk stripes etc. I’ve sourced the graphics and am very much left to decide pickups, pick guards, truss rod cover, knobs etc. I guess the front strap ferrule was moved to the back? I also could do with knowing what type of strap connection Lemmy used.
  9. So progress, I’ve had a long chat with a few people now, I may use a 4003 as a base, this is going to be a gigging instrument and I like the newer truss rod system. The cosmetics shouldn’t be an issue . Unless the right priced 4001 arrives. There’s so few 4000s about that I think it would be a shame to “wreck” one.
  10. When I got this one I wasn’t sure what it was but thanks to some advice on here earlier I reckon I can join this thread! I don’t know what the colour is called but it has a badass bridge and bartolini pups and wiring.I’m thinking of changing them for a EMG set .
  11. So I suppose the million dollar question is what pickups do I put in🤔
  12. Thanks for the info, unfortunately that one will cause me problems.......
  13. Oh man , I’m very jealous! A friend of mine has one but I can’t remember which number. Aren't they all slightly different?
  14. Nice one, thanks for all the info, I’m hoping to get as close as I can but it also needs to be gigable etc. Really appreciate you taking the time👍
  15. I know it got dropped many times! What I’ve got so far is that it has an extra fret, and is probably a mapleglo .
  16. I don’t think Mr Hall can lay much claim to what Lemmy ended up playing 🤣
  17. I’m just planning out a replica build of Lemmys early 4001 Rickenbacker. Has anyone done this before or know the spec , decent pictures etc,any advice would be gratefully received.
  18. Guys , as we’ve got sod all chance of playing for a while I thought I’d go through some of our kit and upgrade it. Do you have any advice for the best 1/4”Jack to XLR cable to run from mixer to an active subwoofer with a 12m length?
  19. I went with a set of Geezer Butlers in the end...👍
  20. So whilst I sit at home bored out of my skull I was looking at one of my Basses and started to wonder what options there are for making an improvement. What do you reckon to the EMG solderless P bass pickups? I’ve got a Dean with EMGs on and I love the sound.
