Have you considered Nova Guitar Parts? @Andre_Passini in Brazil is a member here. They are superb products with a proper ball-race to minimise turning resistance - essential with headless systems. Drop him a line - they are very reasonably priced, huge range of options and very quick and easy shipment from Brazil.
Thank you very much @Andyjr1515

I'll put some more meat on the bones in the morning, but I think that the double-ball approach is an unnecessary complication for the short-scale multi-scale you have in mind. Cheaper to buy 4 allen keys and keep one in every place you can think of than being stuck with always having to buy some very custom strings (and getting their spec right) or compromising the functionality. And on a bass, how often do you need to change strings?
Look up Nova Guitar Systems (there's a similar topic somewhere else on the site) on Facebook and pm @Andre_Passini (the owner) on this forum. They are great quality and will be a lot cheaper than some of the above you mention.
More about my view of the double-ball issue tomorrow
And yes - as @3below says, the Steinberger tuners you show are great, but designed for guitars, not basses
Thank you again @Andyjr1515!

Thanks - they look rather nice.
I guess the two questions are:
- Is there a drop-in replacement for a Steinberger?
- How much do they cost (I'm in the UK)?
(I definitely want to steer clear of the Chinese toot!)
Hi Prowla,
1. No there isn't. My model is different. Take a look at the picture.
2. Here is the price:
Nova Bridges with BASE PLATE and THRUST BEARINGS–Black anodized Aluminum and Brass – For BASS
- 4 Strings (Bridge + headpiece) – Spacing 19 mm – US$126,00 + US$34,00 (FedEx shipping)

Nova Guitar Parts. Excellent quality and decent price. There are Chinese fakes about, so best to look them up on Facebook. The owner is @Andre_Passini who is a member here
Thank you Andy!

I am indeed doing the 35.5-33.5” one.... I hate slotting at the best of times, but now I cannot use my normal jig I am REALLY hating it. 5 slots in and all is well, but man it is an ordeal.... am going to take as long as I need.
I use to do it in a laser machine, then I use a saw to open the slot

I've used ABM, ETS, Hohner and Nova headless tuners. Nova is by far the smoothest and easiest to tune. They are also the lightest.
It is very good to know, thank you for the feedback.

That's nice too. I also built one myself that I used for a few years but it wasn't nearly as accurate as the bought one.
That said, I think the one you've made there is probably more accurate again - the extra size makes small lumps and bumps much less exaggerated and there is much better control with those handles of the router movement . That said, my workspace is so limited, I would never be able to fit anything of this size. Nice fretboard, that - what's the wood?
Thanks Andy!
The fretboard is a wood called "Brauna"

That's great Andy, I was thinking to change to 7 mm, but it is too much, 6.50 mm is perfect, thank you so much for your effort.
Andre.

Yes - it's the extra diameter of the Elite ball end that's the problem (I've NO idea why I was calling it circumference earlier!).
The recess in the Nova is slightly tapered, starting at around 6.4mm but tapering down to just below 6.3 at the bottom. So looking at it, the ball end, even the 6.35 dia one, isn't bottoming at all. If the hole was 6.5mm I'm sure they would fit. I have a 6.5mm metal-cutting drill bit - I can open one of them out on my little press-drill tomorrow if you like and see if it bottoms OK just with that.
That would be great!

That's weird, but thanks anyway, now I can enlarge the hole
