  1. Interesting, the 'Gold Glory' has Grovers and a Seymour Duncan PUP, but then it costs £600.
  2. Should have used two layers. Everyone knows double denim is best.
  3. Back in the 80s I got a job in Bridgend and the first day we went and got me waterproofs on the company account. Later I moved to Warwickshire and didn't wear a raincoat for 18 months.
  4. I don't get on with active basses, on the whole. The longer I've been playing, the flatter I set my EQ and my feeling is active basses just do badly what the amp's equalisation does well. YMMV.
  5. I rebodied a P bass, with a PJ body yesterday, and it sounded totally gutless. Today I realised that the two 100k volume pots were 10K, so effectively 5K across the P pickup. I've ordered a pair of 250K pots which should sort it. You could argue the ideal would be fitting two 500K pots, then the arrangement would be electrically identical to a P with the J pup wound right back. I don't buy that the J-pup 'damps' the strings to any audible degree.
  6. +1
  7. Disagree. Not very punk, but we were from Royal Leamington Spa!
  8. Why is Darth Vader standing behind Hugh Cornwell?
  9. Really? Expand apparently You don't say? Are you clicking the 'expand' button? (Is it visible on your setup?)
  10. V-moda Faders are very good, 12dB so they don't stop everything. About £20. https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/V-Moda-Faders-VIP-Ear-Plugs-Rouge/27ZK?origin=product-ads&gclid=CjwKCAjwkvWKBhB4EiwA-GHjFh-ffEiwyC1ONkJ6pubxSr518CEfws-nnJ0Op5fxmc3VjOcGLetK3hoCVoAQAvD_BwE
  11. True enough, but Grovers always look cheap and nasty to me.
  12. Well I live with Grover style on two of my basses, I'll wait and see. There are other possibilities... Van Ghent:
  13. But is it small?
  14. Possibly, but the original Embassy Deluxe with a batwing headstock had them, so there's something of a precedent (not a big fan of grover-style).
  15. Do you think a set of vintage clover leaf tuners would suit?
  16. We must have been half-decent last Friday, the landlord has booked us for New Year's Eve. 🙂
  17. Could that have been a use for the Hartkombo?
  18. Make sure you haven't got a vegan strapped down with it before throwing it in the pan.
  19. X In Search of Space* *X optional.
  20. You know the old saw that bass players are failed guitarists? Only the ones who use a pick 😉
  21. Born Under a Bad Sign, Albert King. Duck Dunn... he plays all these now clichéd bass riffs, except he doesn't, he adds in little things that most people don't.
  22. Yes you can screw it right out, but when it is actually doing anything it only has one position.
  23. That could be part of the problem... I've got a Fender Jazz with a heel-end adjuster and it doesn't move in and out. It stays level with the end of the neck. Ditto for a guitar I have with one.
  24. On all the truss rods I have seen, the nut doesn't move in and out, it's the rod that gets pulled by it (or pushed and pulled if double acting).
  25. Carole King in concert on Sty Arts.
