  1. Thanks for the comments folks. Alan’s basses are just the best in my opinion. Cheers
  2. Hi folks It’s always a good day when a new bass comes into the fold. I know many members here on Basschat will be aware of the extraordinary instruments built by Alan Cringean of AC Guitars based in Dumfries, Scotland. I have 3 ACG basses already however this is my first fretless and with many hours spent on this bass I just wanted to comment on how glorious it is. This Recurve model is built using Turkish walnut top with gold resin on a swamp ash body. The neck is an ebony fingerboard on an ash/wenge neck. The pickups are an ACG FB Humbucker at the neck and an ACG BZ1 pickup at the bridge. This is my first time using the BZ1 pickup and it’s the best pickup I’ve ever heard. It delivers such a rich, solid and versatile tone that compliments the FB humbucker perfectly. The preamp is the ACG Dual Filter Modular 4k type. Volume, blend and low pass filter control for each pickup allowing for very accurate and versatile adjustment of tone which I’ve found extremely useful playing in different venues with varying acoustics. The DFM developed between ACG and John East has recently been made available separately so if you’re in the market for a filter preamp the quality and versatility of the ACG DFM is in my opinion the best. Hardware is by Gotoh and I opted for a mix of gold and black hardware to go with the gold walnut body which I think goes pretty well. The playability is exceptional. It’s a lined fretless with Luminlay dots on the side of the neck. The ebony fingerboard provides a wonderful balance of both warmth and brightness delivering all that luscious fretless mwah you could hope for. The strings are Dunlop flatwounds. Ive never used them before but so far I’m really enjoying them. I’m not sponsored or affiliated with ACG in anyway I just think that the instruments Alan builds are world class plus he has always been extremely responsive to any questions or queries I’ve had. I can’t fault the customer service at all. Alan is an absolute gent. If you’re in the market for a custom build have a good look through the ACG website on builds and options. Alan also does some stock builds which does take some of the pain out of trying to make your mind up on the various custom options available. ACG basses are world class in every department so If you’re aiming for a custom bass then seriously consider trying one out. Just be warned once you start it’s hard to stop 😀 Loving this bass is an understatement really. It’s exquisite and I can’t thank Alan enough for it. Enjoy the pics. Cheers Stuart
  3. There will be in a couple of weeks 😊😊
  4. Alan’s work is absolutely second to none. Impeccable workmanship and playability as well as versatility and tone. I have 3 😀
  5. Here are my 3 ACGs. All spectacular basses. It’s already been said but I’ll say it again Alan’s work is absolutely first class.
  6. That’s a cracker mate.
  7. A beautiful collection sir.
  8. ACG all the way for me. I have 3 at the moment and one in progress. I haven’t played anything that sounds or feels as good as an ACG instrument. Plus Alan has always been incredibly patient and responsive to any questions or queries I’ve had.
  9. Absolutely beautiful
  10. Stunning
  11. Excellent condition Tech 21 YYZ Pedal. Limited edition cover for the anniversary of the Rush Moving Pictures album. Nails the Geddy tone perfectly but also extremely versatile. Comes with box. Can post if buyer pays for it. Thanks for looking.
  12. For sale is an excellent condition Geddy Lee Jazz. Hardly played at all and used only in the house. Selling because I rarely play it and preferring ACG basses. Recently had the stock pickups changed to Tom Brantley Jazz pickups which are the ones Geddy uses in all his jazz basses. Comes with gig bag. Sounds great and weighs around 8lbs. I’ll throw in the stock pickups at full price only. I’ve just moved house so collection only or meet within a reasonable distance. Thanks for looking.
  13. Aye sorry it’s not fretless either. The headstock will match the body as well. I absolutely can’t wait to see it taking shape.
  14. Thanks Winter. No it’s not fretless. I love the Krell aswell.
  15. Hi folks I have lusted after an ACG bass for years and recently got a fantastic Retro B from Alan directly. Alan not only is an absolute gent but he is one of the finest bass builders in the world IMHO. Having a significant birthday on the way I thought it was only natural to commission a build from Alan. So after some online discussion with Alan he invited me down to his workshop to look at some woods for the body and neck and go through options for the pickups and preamp. Alan showed me an absolute stunner of a body that had been treated with Acrylic Resin. I also picked a beautiful acrylic impregnated fingerboard on a flame maple and wenge neck. For electronics it will be the ACG BZ1 pickup in the bridge and an ACG PB in the neck. For the preamp I chose the East uni pre. I’ll attach a picture of the body and neck and will update the diary when Alan sends me pics on the progress of the bass. Seriously if you haven’t tried an ACG bass before play one, they are absolutely stunning basses to play and Alan is a top chap and an amazing luthier.
