  1. I'm 12 hours in and love it. Does the StingRay well but with a bit more zing I'd say, similar to you I have 3 StingRay specials to compare to. It also does the Jazz thing and the P thing as well. I'm very impressed so far. Superb recommendation from Bassdirect.
  2. I think for the more premium models yes but from the Bassdirect website it says the following but the pick guard is aluminium and maybe some more bits, not 100% sure. Body Wood: Alder Neck Material: Maple Fingerboard: Graphitex Weight: 7lbs7oz/3.5kg
  3. Had some potential redundancy on the way but turns out all is good so I went and had a look at this DarkRay today (which I had reserved previously) with the idea of trading a Sandberg and a Special. I have to say that I really liked it, looks amazing and is obviously a quality instrument but for the price it didn't blow me away vs the other StingRay specials that I have. I ended up trading my Sandberg for a used Alusonic (never heard of them before but it is something similar but also different) and still have one of my Specials. They had a Gold Bar DarkRay there as well which I have to say looks the absolute nuts. If I see a used Gold Bar or in the unlikely event a used bargain Grapes of Wrath I will likely pick it up. But for £3,600 I wasn't quite enough for me. I'm kind of gutted as I wanted to love it but the good news is I still have my Special and now a new brand to play around with. I very almost picked up another Musicman but with piezo pickups in the bridge but I am happy with the advice given by Bassdirect in relation to going Alusonic. They moved a bass on with £2k less of value than they were expecting to sell and were so cool about it, long term investment from them I think as I will definitely be back. The thing is so light, has a vast array of tones, a slick neck and some sort of graphite in the neck. Amazing instrument. Just researching now and have seen that Cass Lewis plays one, along with Flea and Tim Commerford my three inspirations to play bass. https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/alusonic-django-standard-4-special-edition-high-gloss-metallic-purple-pre-owned-2/
  4. Just played this now whilst chilling on a Friday night and I’m putting this on hold whilst I reconsider my options. Rare monster this and I feel like I’d regret it.
  5. Roll up roll up. Plenty of bites both here and on eBay but no firm takers. The transfer deadline is fast approaching, get your hands on this rare beauty before the transfer window closes.
  6. Love your Gong posters. My Dad has loved these guys since I was young. Used to go to loads of their gigs back in the day. Weird as hell 😂
  7. You definitely do, especially this rare beast. You'll be doing us both a favour. Actually how about buy my StingRay, you definitely want that! 😀
  8. This will likely be going to Bassdirect soon so last chance
  9. Don't. I'm really in two minds about this. Hoping the Ray gets sold first.
  10. Just saw your message. I've put the bass down to £1300 to match the ebay price.
  11. So a potential redundancy on the way and I just bought this and another members Ray on here in the last few months. Unfortunately may take a big loss on this in the space of a few months but needs must. This is basically brand new although somehow I have managed to put a minor scratch on the body and the black pick guard has some signs of being played (as seems to be the way with these StingRay black pick guards). I bought it in October 2025 so still has warranty on it until 11th October 2026. Weights about 4kg according to my bathroom scales. We all know about these basses so won't write too much about it, sounds and looks amazing. Roasted maple neck and fretboard. It's either this (Black Rock) or the Grape Crush Ray that has to be listed and I don't think I can sell the grape crush one I have. Sentimental value. I prefer to meet to hand this over but can send at buyers cost. Comes with the Mono case which I absolutely love. Less clunky and still has loads of protection.
  12. Bought a couple of StingRays recently and also got some potential redundancy on the cards so time to part ways with this. This is not the tribute version but the full fat US Series E version. You can get a P bass sound out of it as well as a beefed up StingRay sound, this bass is properly powerful. It has the parallel/series switch, passive active and also active with treble boost switch. Swiss Army knife as they say. This has only ever been played at home and not even left the house. Serviced every year by Bristol Guitar Tech, last completed on 21st November with new strings. It plays amazingly well with the smoothest neck ever and is in perfect condition. Comes with the G&L hard case. Happy to ship but much prefer to meet to handover as I wouldn't want it to get damaged. I will be putting up one of the StingRays as well so this may get taken down if the Ray goes first. Weighs about 4.2kg according to my bathroom scales.
  13. Thanks for the feedback. It was due to the love in the forums that I gave them a go. As you say maybe they just don't work for me or this bass. It's just a shame to have to change strings so soon due to the waste of money.
  14. Dramatic title but it's got your attention. Now these strings are not cheap and I have put a set on a StingRay special. I have EB cobalt flats on another Ray and Elixir nickel plated steels on another Ray and they sound amazing. I am really struggling with the DRs as they feel horrible on my fingers and against the fretboard and don't sound brilliant. To the point I don't even want to pick it up and play it. So my question is, should I bite the bullet and get rid or should I give them time to bed in? Will they get better in time? Anyone else had experience with these strings?
  15. Bass now collected. Exactly as described and it plays amazingly well. Thanks for coming half way to meet me as well.
  16. Gorgeous that. Interestingly when I lived in Japan I was getting a train from Tokyo to Nagoya I was sat with Tim Commerford and the rest of the crew from Prophets of Rage when they were on tour.
  17. I'll take it, PM sent. Been desperate for one of these for some time now. Almost put in a custom order but the cost was just too high for me.
  18. Yes you are right. I don't know why these go under the radar to be honest, maybe the cost when new? It's a really good bass and I won't be upset if it doesn't sell.
  19. Final price drop as below this price I may as well keep it as I'm sure I'll enjoy the tones this beast makes in years to come. £1,500.
  20. £1600 now, getting the price down to a level where I may just decide to keep it
  21. I'm in a similar position to you, I've listed my grape crush 3 times and took it down each time within 24 hours so I feel your pain. Such great instruments.
