  1. I just bought Wellsyboy’s Yamaha BBP34 and it was as easy and friendly a purchase

as I’ve had in quite a few deals!

Excellent comms and help throughout. Deal with confidence!

    Cheers Steve and thanks again.

  2. Hi everyone.

I bought this great passive bass ( Vol Vol Tone ) new from GuitarGuitar in Feb 2017.

Serial Number 160304485 - see headstock edge photo.

Only occasional playing at home so no noticeable wear apart from very slight signs on some

frets under the E string frets 3 to 7 ish. Only noticed this when packing and polishing the frets, oiling the board.

It still has the Lakland ST/ST 45 65 85 105 round wound strings on and they’re still lively and seem to suit

these powerful pickups. I don’t use st/st on my other basses but I’d stick with them on this bass.

Superb P pickup and a great tone control for lots of very useable tones.

I had the 3 pots upgraded to the more durable CTS pots on the advice of Steve Barratt at guitarlodge.co.uk

nearby in Felixstowe. CTS are 1/4 inch shafts so Steve drilled out and shimmed the original knobs, just this year

so this bass is ready to rock.

It’s a dense Ash body so 10lb 5oz / 4.6kg but nicely balanced and you get the advantage of super clear tones and sustain.

These earlier years of the 44-64 have the lovely white neck binding and full white pearl blocks on a super dark rosewood

board in this case. The more recent years version don’t have the binding , just a dark abalone corner to each block.

The pickups and hardware are the same as on Lakland’s USA models. They’re shipped back to Chicago for checking and Pleking

of the fretboard ( computer aided machine levelling process using sensors to eliminate even the slightest high spots of the frets ).

See photo of Plek Tag 25 May 2016.

I’ve packed it up already in inner cardboard coffin type box, then packed well in usual large outer box.

Please see my feedback - when 8 say MINT I mean No blemishes or swirls or tiny marks or dinks etc.

Thought I was going to send it off for commission sale but decided not to, hence packed already and

hence less than tip top photos but I think they show what you need.

There are some pics in a low sun from last week and the bright ones were taken by GGuitar in Birmingham for

me to verify it was a pukker example I was buying ( I sent two back.)

Make me a sensible offer and it’s yours. You will not be disappointed! ( UK delivery only , on me.)

Only selling as I’ve enjoyed it for nearly 7 years and have recently splashed out on other basses which

    need funding.

    Specs then photos.

  3. Thanks Misdee. I did resolve this ( well, WE did , after consultations above ).

Easy enough to turn the small Gain screw 1/4 turn at a time, then check change in Gain.

The Passive mode is just quiet. The Active mode is healthily loud, any more gain and it

    distorts.

I’ll run it in Active anyway, which is my preference for my Active with Passive option basses.

    Cheers. Quent.

  4. Hi Sandy,

Thanks for your advice. It all makes perfect sense of course.

I got thrown by misinterpreting something I read online about the LH3 gain adjustment

and the fact that this is the only bass I’ve had with such a Vol drop off when

in passive vs active (set flat). eg My Sandbergs all  have same perceived Vol in passive , near enough.

I’m not going to equalise the Act/Pass volumes ( by turning Act gain down)  because I mainly play through

headphones and a Digitech BP355 multi pedal which gives me decent volume when it’s Vol

is set at Max , (99! ) so lowering the LH3 gain would spoil my Volume Fun , with no headroom left in the BP355.

Thank you all, you’ve cleared that up for me nicely 👏💥

I did enjoy adjusting the tiny gain screw using a Xmas Cracker mini screw driver set I found in a drawer!

Preowned, so adjusted from prev setting. 1/4 turn created distortion so back a bit until loud ……and clear.

On your pickup height suggestion Sandy, I tried raising to help with passive signal but it didn’t bridge the gap

to Act Vol noticeably and started distorting so reset heights to Standard suggested by Lakland ( Open strings - E 4mm bridge   Humbucker and 4.4 mm on the E at Neck, (slightly less for the Gs).

I can live with feeble passive as I like the active pallet so much, I’ll just use that. Other basses I have can do

both really well ( usually tone control for the passive mode, but not on my Skyline 44-02). Don’t gig so no issue

playing live ( Had fun in the 90s playing in pubs ).

Settled on Midrange internal dip switch setting of 500Hz to get a great punchy almost fat tone set flat , then get as fat

as you want from there or roll off bass and add Treb Mids for more clank etc.

I only just discovered a really good video on Youtube by a guy running through all the LH3  9 dipswitch settings and sounds.

Throughout the Mids about 8/10 , bass and treb 5/10 both pickups on , massive difference dropping from the

stock 600Hz mid rang centre to 450Hz and lower.

Hopefully here’s the link and a photo of the 9 Mids settings he refers to.

    Thanks again you guys! 👍🤘

  5. Thanks Dad! That makes sense , as Lfalex said.

Perhaps my misunderstanding about the LH3 screw altering the Gain of both Passive and Active modes.

So, as Passive is feeble currently, you’re saying turn the gain down ( as you seem to think it’s only Active gain ).

    Excuse my iggorunss !

I’ll try 1/10 turns either way and see what happens.

    Will report back.

    Cheers. Quent

  6. Hi  Lfalex. I see what you’re saying about your other brand of Preamp but from what I’ve read, the Lakland LH3 gain screw alters the gain of both active and passive modes, rather than just the active?

Perhaps a Lakland owner will clear that up? Specifically someone who’s had a go at turning the LH3 screw…

…….that’s what I’m chickening out of ! ( In case I physically mess up the electronics board.)

    Thanks. Quent

  7. Hi Lakland fans! Have any of you turned the small Gain adjustment screw

on the LH3 pre amp board ? ** I don’t want to dive in and over do it and knacker the board.**

I have a 2011 Skyline 44-02 and whilst loud enough with the Pre engaged it is

    noticeably feeble in passive mode.

I’m thinking, turn up the gain a bit to help in passive mode , then turn Vol down a bit if too

    crazy in Active mode.

So, is it clockwise turn for increased gain ?

Would a 1/4 turn be excessive to start with?

The pic below I copied shows the cross headed screw circled in red.

    Thanks for any help!

    Cheers. Quent.

  8. Just bought a mint Epi Thunderbird Classic Pro IV from Paul S and it was a very easy deal

with Paul’s detailed and very accurate description of the bass in his post.

Better still, got to meet Paul himself at a halfway point today for the hand over and it was a real pleasure

to meet such an experienced player.

So PLUS One here for a great guy to deal !

Good luck with your upcoming gigs Paul and thanks again for a smooth deal.

Bass played this arvo and loved it. 👍

  9. Just sold my Maruszczyk Elwood Absolution 5a Blue Beauty/Beast to one

very happy Andy man ! Really easy deal with excellent comms, interesting info

and a helpful vibe to it all. Enjoyed this so deal with yer man with confidence.

Cheers and Thanks again ! Quent

  10. Thanks for the Bumps guys. Guess what? It plays tunes too !!

Great Glock 2 band to launch the excellent clear and punchy Haussel

pickups. I have another Maruszczyk to keep me happy here and need funds to pay

off some other basses so she’s got to go. Lucky to have had her for home play

only for a few years. Cheers.

  11. Thanks for the recommendation! Yes, an endless  variety of tones available

and she’s a real beauty. At this price, I’ll get the same on here as if anyone buys it

from the gallery direct ( their commission vs me paying postage to get it back

from them and then post on to you - Palaver ! ) PM me and I can drop slightly

    on price. Cheers.

  12. Just bought Mark’s Hofner HI-BB bass. Really easy purchase with a very quick dispatch, great packing,

    Thanks again.  Great bass!

  13. Hi everybody,

Here’s my 2018 Sire V7 Marcus Miller 5 Gen 1 in mint condition,

not played that much as I have a few to play fortunately.

I bought it new Dec 2018,  then got a Sire Fretless 5 and P7 Gen 2 fiver so I need to shed one of them. Sold it before ,briefly ,then bought it straight back on Basschat! I need to pay off a recent purchase and my Bass Fund is empty.

They’re exciting basses. Very versatile, a controllable powerful preamp

    whether Gen 1 or 2.

I’ll only consider close offers because this is in perfect condition and even

the nice tort pick guard faint swirls have buffed out.

I’ll use the original Sire cardboard coffin box and an outer with packing

    between the two.

The pickups are single coil pickups made with a fiber bobbin, Alnico 5 magnets, and heavy Formvar magnet wire.  They are positioned in the ‘60’s position.  Like everything else on this bass, the pickups are made by Sire Guitars.

This 18-volt preamp is the most versatile preamp I have used on a bass.

When strapped up or balanced on the knee, the bass balances very well without any neck dive.
