  1. Many many years ago I saw The Alan Price Set at the Top Rank in sunny Donny, only it was winter, and one of their vehicles had an accident on the way.  So they arrived without drummer and bassist.

So as not to let the crowd down, they recruited the house band's drummer, and AP played the bass part on keyboard, at the same time as singing, playing keys, and leading the drummer.

    Brilliant.

  2. Is this another case of PC gone mad?  One complaint and the rest of humanity, sorry, hupersonity, has to suffer?

Apparently the reason for this is that it’s considered to portray entrapment of women for sexual purposes.  The thought that she might be very keen, but just playing hard to get, seems to have been lost in the translation, along with the fact it’s a very good song!

Make a lower offer. Fill the frets yourself - it's not difficult and contrary to popular opinion you don't have to do it with beautifully cut pieces of thin veneer - just use wood filler in your choice of colour! Let it harden and lightly sand it smooth.  It's not a vintage Fender although in fairness I have done this before to vintage Fenders! Pretty sure that's what Jaco did originally to his Jazz Bass.

I did it quite successfully onan Oldfield which I bought solely for this purpose.  As the fretboard was black, I carefully masked the rest of the instrument, and sprayed it with satin black aerosol paint.

  4. In our Church band we use individual MEI mixer/monitors, with wired in-ear phones.

In an attempt to go wireless, I bought a small Bluetooth transmitter to plug into the MEI output, and Bluetooth phones.

Unfortunately, while they pair up ok, there’s about a half beat delay between playing a note and hearing it, which is not good for a bass player.....☹️

Does Bluetooth always have this?  Anything I can do, other than forget it?

    Thanks

I saw them several years ago at Wolverhampton. Apparently they formed in 1959 which makes this their 59th year of performing though just 1 original member remains. Very entertaining and good musicians.

The original member I think is Pete (Langford ?),  who now takes the lead role.

60 years seems a good time to bow out, methinks.

The neck is cracked below the nut though, still fixable but turns it into a more complicated job.

    .......

This is the type of project I find most interesting though, lets face it if you're nearby and could collect it would be worth sticking a tenner on just for fun.

    Possibly.

That’s what I meant by losing a fret, chop it below the break.  Short short scale?

    Oh, and defret it.

Ditto on the type of project.

Edit:  wonder if the neck's even straight......Was thinking about a punt, but don’t think I’ll bother after all.

  7. Went to the Amersham 'Rock n Roll Club' last night, 3 bands, Edison Lighthouse, the Foundations, and a band I’d not heard of, from Northants, the John Burrows Band.

The first two had original members still playing, and were fine, but TBH no better than they should be: for me though the best band was the support, particularly their lead singist, Adam Whitmee.  A young bloke in his 20s, alongside shall we say more mature (as in 40 years older!) colleagues.

  8. I’m trying to move to wireless in-ears monitoring, via Bluetooth, but can’t pair the transmitter with the phones.  I note that the phones are Bluetooth 4.1, but the Tx is 4.0.  Could this be the reason?  I would have thought that the later (presumably) 4.1 would incorporate earlier versions, but maybe not.

Any other reason for incompatibility, anyone know, please?

    Thanks

    Malcolm

Sorry to add this after your hard work, but for info, 36 years ago I defretted a neck and used a darkish woodfiller rather than wooden inserts.

Finished the rosewood board with a darker stain and waxed after fine sanding. I was never bothered about changing neck profile etc as the neck was perfectly playable whilst fretted.

My thoughts and experience exactly, but as the fretboard on mine was black, and I couldn’t get black filler, I spray painted it black with satin finish, carefully masking the sides.  Even though the fret slots were filled and painted, they could still be seen, just enough to aid fingering.
