Fitted with a set of Aquila ThunderReds, the original Pahoehoe strings are included but they are 6 years old and were a already a bit stretched before I removed them

It's in pretty fair condition nothing much more than light use and normal marks, smoke free use: the rear hatch cover may have been replaced previously as it's not a perfect paint match or fit and there's a minor finish damage to the edge of it, but I see the one on the Youtube video also has a colour mismatch so that may be normal, I'm not the original owner, I bought it used from Ebay a couple of years ago and it had come used from the states via Ebay previously. I bought it as I wanted a fretted UBass to go with my fretless TWRBE, but I found a used fretted TWRBE so this is for sale now as I prefer the Tanglewoods with their slightly bigger dimensions (neck join 14th fret as opposed to 12th on Kala) , though the Kala is a better quality instrument but was certainly overpriced new due to 'brand value'. I have added a strap pin to the heel of the neck of this Ubass as I prefer strap attached there rather than acoustic guitar style shoestring behind the nut.

for me on pc monitor speakers number 2 VM, quite like 1 AN as well - guessing 2 is a jazz type, 1 is a p type ?

Hope it works out for you, but to me that headstock set up just looks wrong,  top two strings great routing, middle string tight bend at the nut and then the low string reverse wound onto tuner weird, so is the tuner reversed or do you have to live with it going the opposite way to the others ?

I think Warwick headstocks always look wrong too, tight angles on middle strings at nut

No problem, it's back together but can be neck off again

The fingerboard came up well and the frets polished up and the back of the neck is nice and smooth now

If you want the action lower than 2.3mm you'd want to pop a shim in the neck pocket as the E string saddle is almost on the bridge plate, I found a card shim in there when I took the neck off, but without the shim it set straight back up to standard Fender Jazz settings, 0.014" neck relief at the 8th fret and 2.3mm string height, no fret buzz anywhere I found.

My Jazz, 2003 MIM, Inca Silver with Fender high mass bridge, multicolour shell pickguard, Entwhistle JBXN pickups and stack-pot controls I built myself with CTS pots, old Russian caps and cheap knobs (have you seen the price of genuine ones ffs) topped of with HB7 machine heads and wearing Maruszczyk flats

Bass was an impulse off Ebay buy, slapped to death, so needed a fret level and crown and a general makeover so I took the opportunity to go the whole hog and learn some new skills at the same time

Not your usual with tort look and it sounds great to my ears, I'd love to hear a really good player play it

Update, rather than sell it as it was I have taken the strings off and removed the neck, the upper crack in the finish is through the wood but doesn't affect the neck pocket significantly because the neck pocket isn't tight as manufactured, it is painted on the inside of the neck pocket and the finish is quite rough in there from the factory, quite crude but not full of polishing compound residue like a lot of far eastern built basses are.

I have cleaned the fingerboard, removed some varnish drips (from whoever changed the headstock logo I guess) from the fingerboard and polished the frets and oiled the fingerboard. It will get another oiling and a polish before I fit the strings

I will sand the back of the neck to 2000 grit and oil it to give a nice satin finish and then refit the neck, pop on a set of lightly used Rotosounds that came off my Fender when I changed to flats and set it up and check it out

The machine heads are okay, not heavily worn or damaged

Vintage VJ74 Reissued Jazz Bass, gloss Black with Red tortoiseshell scratch plate and Rosewood fretboard.

According to the Vintage website it's an Eastern Poplar body with hard maple neck and it has Wilkinson pickups, bridge and machine heads. I bought this from Ebay as temporary cover whilst I was rebuilding my MIM Fender, it was described as 'modified and road worn' 🙄 - basically it is a little tatty and hasn't been well looked after, but is a perfectly useable cheap Jazz bass (rrp  £220-300 new), perfect for the shared rehearsal room or pub jam nights or leaving out somewhere the kids can play it or as a modding bass for experimenting with stuff before committing to modifying something more valuable. According to my scales it weighs 4.65Kg = 10.25Lbs so it's not lightweight, so balances as you would expect.

The original Vintage logo (and serial number if it had one) has been removed and a 'Moon Bass' logo applied to the headstock, there's some scratches and dents to the body and a fair few dings in the neck (why do people stand up their instruments so they can fall over - of course some could be from getting too close to the drum kit). Cracks in the finish around the neck pocket as usual but it all seems solid enough, I haven't had the neck off. It has had a Fender type scratch plate on it in the past which had different holes so there are extra holes out of sight under the original scratch plate.

Price includes UK shipping and PayPal fees. No case or gig bag, will be boxed in proper bass guitar transfer cardboard box with padding and outer box. If you want to come and collect or try it it's in Llanfyllin SY22, £55 cash on collection, £70 bank transfer.

Very good condition barely used and complete with clean (though slightly dusty) original gig bag and tags and tools and user manual

twin pickup passive bass, reversed precision style neck pick up and jazz style bridge pickup, poplar body, two piece maple neck with rosewood fretboard, volume, volume, tone controls, ~29" scale, original strings

Plenty of reviews of these online, this colour is no longer available I believe, it's typical Ibanez quality, finish, neck profile etc.; cheap plastic control knobs but decent bridge, ideal for a guitarist wanting a bass to put down some lines or for a young person wanting to learn to play bass, could pass for new with a polish as a birthday present

I got it because I was struggling with full scale bass as a learner as I have small hands and a little arthritis, not long after I got it I got a J&D miniJazz bass which I prefer the shape of so this didn't see further use, but after a couple of years of trying to learn I now find I can actually get about on a full scale instrument and I can get a preferable tone on a 34" scale instrument so instead of this gathering dust on it's case and because I still haven't got round to doing a car boot sale it's on here for sale.

Hi thanks for replying to my post,  I'll contact Chris but I don't expect there was one, now I know how the bridge is constructed I don't really need to know anything, I'm finding for me treble backed off , bass boosted and either pickup is quite a good range of sounds for me, I just need to work on my technique as I am struggling with fret attack sound on the E string which I don't get on the other strings, I have lowered the pickups  on the bass side which helped a little but it's me as much as the instrument I think as I can get a nice note some of the time but mostly the string to fret contact sounds just before my plucked sound even fretting right up, almost over the fret, maybe lowering the string at the nut a dadge will help also

Hi I've bought a Tanglewood By Overwater Apiration Artist preloved and wonder if there was ever a proper owners manual for it - the bridge is quite something and very different to anything I've adjusted before, I figured it out but only after I lost a ball bearing 

Cleaned and oiled and sorted with new strings and set up nice it's very playable and balanced so comfortable, may need to lower the E string at the nut a dadge but in no rush to adjust it just yet, will play it for a while and get used to 34" scale again as I've been messing around with shorties 

Also I wonder has anyone done a passive/active mod on one ? It would be interesting to hear the pickups without the electronics (especially the J neck pickup) and the cavity is big enough as it's designed for the 3 way eq and this is only 2 way

The RotoSSound77s ring sharp initially so can't recommend them I am also looking for a good flatwound for my Ibanez Mikro Bass 28.6", 726mm scale length; Scott Whitley writes about strings on his shortscalebass.co.uk web site

I have tried these on one of my short scale basses and they are awful, feel great, nice tension, BUT they ring a quarter or more of a tone sharp when you pluck them before settling to the correct pitch so you sound like your intonation is out and I started doubting my bass, my technique etc... I am not the only one, read what Scott Whitley has to say about them on his shortscalebass.co.uk web site where he writes about strings

I have the RS88 Tru bass black nylon tapewounds on my (home made) fretless short scale and they are better, but if anyone has found a flatwound that will definitely work on a 726mm (28.6", eg Ibanez Mikro, J&D Shorty) short scale bass with good intonation and that old skool sound please post up
