Isn't this one of the Sx neck through range?

    it's a bolt on neck

I wonder if they were going to get into bed with Spector at that point but Spector went with another builder, the Euros are made in the Czech republic now aren't they ?

So, I've had a chat with Gregor Fris, and he said he will pass on the concerns around communication to Holger. They are aware that they're having an issue dealing with emails, and are working on improving that.

Although I know it may not suit everyone, he said the best way to contact currently is via FB or Insta - it is a separate team dealing with these enquiries, including himself I believe, and probably Marc Stranger-Najjar. If you message Sandberg socials, you will certainly get a quicker response.

Thank you for getting involved and getting a response, though surely Gregor has better things to do. Why are they prioritising social media comms, with a separate team dealing with those enquiries ? if they know there's an issue they should address that as the priority surely - do the basics first.

Instagram and faceache, are the fluff on top of a serious business model, not a substitute for or the basis for one, imho of course.

I've decided to spend my money with a UK business, it's a bit of a poor show that we consume so much and make so little really, the UK should really have a robust musical instrument manufacturing business landscape, there's enough people to support one, and enough imaginative people to create the products, and plenty of people who would rather make things other than fast food, I am sure.

For those who like the TT I would heartily recommend an ACG Graft J Type.  About £300 cheaper than the Sandberg and beautifully built and finished in the UK.  Here's mine:

looks great but 34" scale only......for now

  4. I can't comment on adjustment as I only feel comfortable on shortscale, I have small hands and short arms and a big belly so whilst a full size P is more comfortable than a J it's still too far a reach and too awkward, and resting bass on right thigh is uncomfortable as it forces a twist in the back, with shortscale I can play on a strap sitting or standing comfortably. A good strap is all it takes if there's any neck dive, but my CV Mustang and Sandberg Lionel don't dive and the FSR Mustang while it does slightly dive compared to the CV (different body woods, different factory, the FSR is 1 1/2lb lighter than the CV, poplar body instead of Nato) with the right strap it is no problem. I might stick some hipshots on it.

Mustangs are in the P territory sonically but have their own vibe, I have Nordstrands in one of them, stock Squier in the other. The Lionel has a P pickup it's like a maple board Fender in tone with a pauferro board on it. All of mine have pauferro boards, I would like a rosewood board neck, I'd like a JMJ but hate the fake relic finish, but the instruments sound great (unique pickups not for sale) and the neck feels good and the headstock with the hipshot tuners mean fitting a d-tuner on the E string is easily done, and lolipops are cool.

Strings make a big difference, I've LaBella tapes on the Lionel and there's so much variety in tone available, LaBella Mustang flats on the CV and Fender rounds on the FSR, will be changing these to some sort of flat soon as I don't need or want the brightness of rounds, but might try Chromes as they seem to be very highly rated and I have never tried them.

Flats being higher tension feel perhaps more like full scale strings, but if you are a vibrato/bender style player the lower tension of rounds on a short scale might be your thing.

  5. I have made three more attempts to contact Sandberg by email, using their website, service@ and home@ email addresses and still no reply. Why bother having a contact form on the website and hiding your sales phone number ?

Any company that is only open to using social media for customer contact can do one afaic

I'd say it's typical big company arrogance, their way or no way.

What's the point of having a configurator if you won't discuss the details with the customer.

If they can't be bothered to deal with a potential individual customer in order to make a sale they are unlikely to be responsive once they have the customer's money. If they replied and said I need to go through Bass Direct or another dealer they are happy to use as intermediary I'd understand that but no reply at all ? wtf

I love the Lionel fretless but they won't be getting my money for a fretted one, they have lost a sale, I'd much rather give my money to a UK luthier who will actually appear to be interested in making me an instrument, or even give Fender too much money for a JMJ with a finish I hate but a pickup and neck I like 😲🙃

    Has it arrived?

Arrived today, Royal Mail delivered it, no charges as yet, though customs label shows sales of goods and full price of the unit so surprised at that - have Royal Mail/DHL/DP got some sort of deal sorted, or have they just given up collecting for HMRC, there's no VAT number for JPTR FX on the label.

Anyway it is a mental pedal, and very loud, not sure how you'd use it musically, that's for my friend to find out, so many knobs including the big one with no name just a moon symbol plus the momentary button and an expression pedal option, but what that does I know not, there's no instructions, no suggested settings though some, sort of useful, interactive demos on Loopy Demos website

came with a bunch of stickers plus the circuit board business card, does anyone have a link for wiring and component populating it to make a pedal or incorporate it into an instrument ?

Appreciate all of this, similar to some of the truss rod content I’ve been reading up on 😂

I have a p bass that I keep on parking. Even when the truss rod is fully tightened (and locks), there’s still more of an 8th fret gap than I’d like. There are indications that the previous owner also struggled with it - both pickguards that came with it are heavily chipped around the truss rod adjustment access point.

I’ve thought, several times, that I should get a luthier to do a professional setup. I’ve spent the weekend tinkering with pretty much everything and it is currently playable. But the truss rod limit nags at me. Is it usual to have a bass that may be just about right when the rod is fully tightened? I feel there should be more play in it. Haven’t had anything like this much beef from any other bass!

In this case it is possible the wood is collapsing and so the truss rod nut/washer has little to bear against and has reached the end of the threaded part, so maybe a neck off remove the nut and take a look to see what's going on or take it to a luthier to check it, maybe why po moved it on

not yet; it has shipped earlier this week, so expecting to hear from DHL next week that it's in the country, I assume they will want the government's pound of flesh and their share too before delivering it to me

  9. Blackstar amplification

bought a Fly3 twin set up, use it as PC monitor speakers and for noodling on guitar a bit

power supply failed after getting increasingly noisy over time

odd voltage 6.5V, highish current, opposite polarity on the connector, so basically unique. Thing is plastic welded sealed unit, and they don't offer a repair service. £30 for a new one, no discount even though I registered as owner when I bought the pack new. Every thing should be repairable where possible. I had a to and fro exchange with customer service, no deal to be done, the script allowed no flexibility, so  told them I won't be buying anything they make again, they didn't bother to reply, they don't care. The power supply costs more than a single amp combo and they go for decent money on ebay, occasionally non UK market ones turn up listed on there so they are sought after, partly because you can buy the amp on its own without p/s and use it on batteries but also because the p/s fails, went down the rabbit hole online to find plenty of other examples of failure.

I bought a non genuine p/s half the price delivered from Holland, so far so good. It's a nice sounding speaker set/amp, just galling they don't use a common standard power supply like most pedal makers, but that would be too easy of course.

  10. I tried getting further technical information from Sandberg on a used bass I bought, nada, no response, which didn't endear them as a company to me - all I wanted to know is what the fretboard radius is supposed to be on my fretless as it doesn't actually measure anywhere on the board at any exact radius - so either they don't keep records or don't deal with second users or maybe anyone once passed warranty period, which is pretty poor support for £2k instruments. They should be able to pull up the build sheet information and supply that; the original certificate is a few fields hand written and very lacking in detail

  11. Bought Steven's tidy FSR Mustang, did me a nice deal on shipping, and it was well packed and next day shipped through his local guitar shop; nice easy deal and nice bass; - the FSR is more resonant than my current CV, poplar body and roundwounds, verses Nato body and flats, and the FSR is over a pound and half lighter

  12. I'd find the position of a nice ringing harmonic and put it there, that seems to be a method generally used

if it's a mustang then the big bridge plate limits the options a bit but Ped's Mustang replacement extra neck pickup sounds great on the clips he's posted, though some of the positioning for that was to do with the previous pickups' rout

Looks fab, I have seen your For Sale - surely a bargain, unfortunately fretless not on my RADAR at the moment

Chris will happily put a fretted neck on it for you - if you want to try these pickups this instrument is the obvious choice, if you like them and the bass you are sorted, if you like the pickups but not the instrument then at least you can commission another instrument more to your liking, if you don't like them then sell it on; it is currently a very, very good deal. I'd buy it but I can't cope beyond 30" scale length now, but if I win the lottery anytime soon I'll buy it anyway and lend it out especially to builders and modders

  14. In my experience the Squier CV Mustangs often have pickguards in which the holes cut for the pickups are a very tight fit on the pickups so the pickups don't readily move when you try adjust the pickup height(s) and the plastic/formar of the pickup is easily stripped by the fine thread machine screws so they no longer adjust the springs under the pickguard exert more force than the thread can hold; in your case a previous owner has maybe experienced this and had them strip and then fitted probably M3 nuts to the pickup so that the pickup height can easily be adjusted, and may have slightly filed the original pickguard so the pickup cover didn't stick in the aperture - the exceedingly tight fit also gave rise to slightly microphonic pickups in some instances. The springs can be replaced with surgical rubber tube

  15. Bought a tidy Cambridge Audio hi-fi amp from Dave, he brought it up to his nearest local gig to me and I took a friend along for a night out and collected it at the end of the night - nice one, many thanks

My workshop has good sounds again, as I type 😍
