  1. That seems to be the consensus Gjones. Daryl
  2. Opening for celebrity level bands is always fun. I only have two under my belt, Charlie Daniel's (RIP) and Peter Frampton. The one with Frampton probably doesn't count. We just happened to be the band that played before him on a multi band festival stage. Daryl
  3. Parking, a bathroom dedicated to the band and comped food and drink are important to me. Even if I don't eat any food it's still the right thing for the owners to do. Daryl
  4. The opportunity to talk with other musicians and friends in a festival setting can be tough. Our old drummers band just happened to be the band that played before us at Wisconsin State Fair. We only had time to shake hands. Daryl
  5. Dave, While we play regularly which keeps us from getting rusty I would love to rehearse and add a few new songs and maybe change a few intros and song endings. Daryl
  6. I have one of those coming up in September. I'm not sure I'll get two monitors. Daryl
  7. This one has probably already been mentioned. You've been told the band is breaking up. Then you find out the band is still together only your no longer a member. Daryl
  8. Agreed. When the crowd is into it a lot of other things don't seem to matter. Daryl
  9. I think the enthusiastic and engaged crowd is a big one for most of us. For me there's nothing worse than playing to a disinterested crowd. Daryl
  10. I would love a gig like that. Unfortunately I need the supplemental income from gigs Daryl
  11. Over here it was never clear to me how much of the take on the cover the bands actually saw, unless the bar gave complete control of the door to the band. Daryl
  12. I wish I had something to contribute to this thread. The fact is we don't rehearse. I wish we did. We play around 65 gigs annually and easily have 4 hours of material. I'm not sure why we don't rehearse. I come from a different background than my bandmates. My background is based in rehearsals and exchanging ideas. This seems foreign to my bandmates. Anyone else here who's band doesn't rehearse ? Daryl
  13. I'm stealing this topic from Dave. What is an ideal gig for you? Within the Bass Chat community we have different levels of experience age and location differences that can impact what folks think is a great gig. There are some folks and I know some who are what I call " I don't care I just want to play" guys. There's nothing wrong with that,I use to be one of those guys. However at 71 years old I'm not one of those guys anymore. . Share your thoughts. Thanks Daryl
  14. Dave, Over here If you go back 25-30 years if a bar had a band they might charge $5.00-$10.00 at the door. It's an interesting discussion be cause that business model died . I'm not sure why. Daryl
  15. Dave, In my neck of the woods the wedding band business is not what it use to be. Most of that business went the way of the DJ. My ideal gig is much like yours only I'd have to add great accommodations, professional high end sound and lighting and an engaged, appreciative crowd . And the gig would be no longer than 90 minutes. Daryl
  16. I listened to the reel with earbuds. Great sounding tight band with nice lead vocals. Daryl
  17. Nice subs and mains Daryl
  18. Selling 65 tickets is a big deal to me. Outside of our festival and fair gigs where people pay at the gate to get in, Maple Road does horribly with "pay to get in" gigs. Most are canceled due to low ticket sales. Actually most ticketed events in my area are for signed national touring bands not local weekend warriors. Daryl
  19. Did the room have a staffed bar ? Daryl
  20. I don't like it when venues pull the plug on food. Our Harley Davidson contracts always specify what food and drinks are comped. They are more tham generous. Daryl
  21. From what I can see, most " start up " bands never see their 1st gig. It's very difficult to find people that can fully commit. Daryl
  22. Years ago I briefly joined a band because I was desperate to be in a band. I made it to two rehearsals before I realized my mistake. Too far of a commute, I was too old and wrong type of music for me ( metal ). I had to figure out an acceptable reason quitting. Daryl
  23. Can you make a living on tips? I doubt it. However, I've seen $1,000.00 tip jars more than once. Daryl
  24. Cool backdrop imagery Dave. Daryl
