  1. Nort sure if I'm missing a profile setting or something but the vast majority of marketplace sellers do not appear to have their location visible - is it just me or the same for everyone? Would it be worth considering making it a prerequisite of using the marketplace that you state where you are? I mean, there's quite a few adds on there that state 'collection preferred'  - from where !?

I've seen the nano heads in the past but never considered one. I'll have to check them out.

Another thought was what about a guitar amp? There seems to be plenty of 5 watt versions of those around. Hmmmm

I've just given my 15W Fender Super Champ a go through my bass cab and it's not too bad - with a bit eq'ing it would probably be OK. It's quite bass light as you'd expect from a guitar amp but that's not neccessarily a bad thing for home use and with my 8ohm cab it was getting towards it's limit at a fairly modest volume. I wouldn't buy one specially for this purpose unless it was really cheap (and the super champs aren't) - I think you're better off sticking with stuff made for bass

  3. I've just bought a CTM30 and it makes a lovely sound but I don't think you're going to be able to push it into break up at home unless you like to rattle the windows. I've paired it with 1x12 cab and I'm running the master volume at around 9 O'clock, i.e, barely ticking over

  4. Which one? I've had three since I started in July :D

The 174 had a great sound, but like I mentioned above, the neck was pretty chunky although I didn't really know any different at the time.
The 504 is a great bass and plays really nicely but it doesn't quite have same sound as the 174 which I subsequently realised is a P bass type tone. So....
I bought a MIM P bass and that sounds fantastic alhough pretty badly shielded (probably not all in fact, haven't checked yet) so I'm waiting on a shielding kit to to take care of the problem.

  5. Thanks both. I'm not sure I'm that bothered by nut width that much but I definately prefer a shallower profile. When I started a few months ago I first bought a Yamaha TRBX174 that, in retrospect, had a very chubby neck but that had to be returned due to some sort of grounding fault. I replaced that with a TRBX504 that had very shallow neck, really nice to play. The P bass I feel is somewhere between the two but feels good.

  6. I'm fairly new to bass so I'm still learning about all the different basses and their individual quirks, never mind actually learning to play. One of the things that I'm still somewhat in the dark about is neck sizes - p and j and all that - and having just bought a 2017 MIM precision I'd be interested to know where it sits in the overall range in terms of width and thickness. It feels pretty good to me and not what I'd describe as 'clubby' so I suspect it's probably reasonably slim by vintage p bass standards. Is that right?
