If you venture into ska-punk there's some incredible bass lines to have a go at if you have the ability. A few bands that I can think of:
Suicide Machines
Choking Victim
Leftover Crack
Catch 22
Rancid

Don't know how many of you are familiar with this online tool but I've just used it to remove the bass guitar from Nite Klub and it's done a pretty good job. Now I can show Mr so-called 'Horace Panter' how it should have been played - bossin'!

Are you finding it's making a big difference? I've certainly felt that to be the case with his Slap bass course I'm working through - which my bandmates are likely to rue 😁
It's effective if you put in the time, for sure. I'm not totally new to reading music but I effectively started from zero about three months ago and I can now sight read simple pieces in 4 different keys with subdivisions down to 8th notes including rests and accidentals. So, I'm no prodigy but I'm making steady progress.

I'm currently doing the Talking Bass sight reading course and it's very comprehensive with loads of material to work through.

I am completely average - didn't need to take test to find out out though

Bought Dan's Trace Elliot AH 250 and it's a cracking amp that even glows in the dark! Great guy to deal with.

I love stuff like this - my favourite bit of those Classic Albums TV shows was then they were behind the desk showing how the recording and mixing was done.

I've thought about buying it but I'm only a thin strip of a lad and I reckon I might get into my car with a bit help and then never be able to get it out.

there's 4x10 combo (1210H GP12) for sale in one of the cash converter type places in Leeds, they have it up on Ebay as well. Not a bad price at £350 but I suspect they might struggle to shift it (literally) at the moment.

I guess it depends where you are in your abilities when you get the book. If a beginner works their through that book, by the end they should be able to read to a certain level. If you can already play and you pick the book up, it's tempting to skip over the 'easy' stuff and miss things. If you wanted a book to learn to read, there are other books I'd recommend.
Yes, to be fair I was trying use it purely to learn to sight read and that's not the primary focus of the book. Having said that, it does a good job but I just needed a more gentle introduction to reading in key because I found that aspect quite challenging
-
Book 1 is great but I found the treatment of key signatures in book 2 a bit superficial and I'd be interested to know if anyone has learnt to sight read using only this book. I baled out after book 1 and have started the Talking Bass sight reading course instead.

is there a mark on the top horn or does it just appear that way on the photo (second one down)?

I knew the song Son of a Preacher Man but never really listened to that bassline.
That's a nice feel to it and maybe one worth learning just for the sheer heck of it.
Maybe one for our @Bilbo to transcribe for us all. Nice wee challenge
Dave
there's a good transcription here:

I started learning War Pigs last night after watching that girl rip into it thinking, 'well, if she can do it...' Hmm anyway, not so easy as it turns out.

Roger Waters, for all his alleged faults, is still edgy - even in his old age - and I like that. All this recent attention prompted me to watch the 'Us and Them' tour film from a couple of year ago and there's a rawness to the music that is often lacking in performers as they get older, Gilmour's comparable efforts being a case in point.

It's interesting how we've come the same conclusion - I've not come across this guy before but I watched about 2 mins of this, got the general gist of the issue and thought 'blown out of all proportion'

could it be the string making contact with the pickup pole piece ?

Trace Elliot amp and cab

That is just a pre amp without a power amp - an additional power amp will be required to get any sound out of it and you're then lugging around two heavy boxes around instead of just one. If you want a TE amp you'd be better off with something like this:
