  1. nice stuff
  2. I've had time to think and i think i need to think about it a bit more- had a chat with DG who was hugely helpful and I'm tempted at my own build as opposed to one of his fine fine relics, as i have realised i just want an amber oiled body with jazz neck set up - i think apart from the electronics, i could do most of it - but I've also not long got the Sire V5R, i wired wooled the body to take the sheen down and apart from needed a red tort guard (it's the 24 fret one, so not seen these yet) it's pretty much what i'm after for now. I also find i want to play it for 10 mins when i get up, and at lunch and after work - so might be a mod project and maybe do a build next year. Thanks to you lovely BCers =that have given me food for thought - i was getting carried away last night planning my perfect jazz bass, from elements from 1960 to 1974 - here's me specs of the basics of what i'd think would be ace: The Duroc Signature Jazz Bass 🙂 Alder body with nice grain. Amber tinted/old stripped look Aged red tortoiseshell pick guard C shaped 9.5 radius bare back neck with dark rosewood board. Or 7.25 radius rosewood with block inlay 74 neck Lollipop lightweight gotoh tuners aged nickel Bone nut or synthetic bone Low tension flats Fender hi-mass bridge 1960 style stack pots with cloth wiring - orange drop 0.10 capacitor for dark tone Vintage 64 pickups - cavity shielding tape Jaguar mute Aged F stamped ash tray bridge cover - if it fits over the jag mute
  3. Yes I think I’ll see if one pops up
  4. I’m just inept at doing practical stuff. Give me something to design or coordinate and I’m your guy.
  5. I know a guitar tech no builder - weighing up options
  6. Thanks sir. One for the future
  7. I think this may be the case.
  8. The neck and tuners felt right. But the body isn’t nitro it’s definitely a thick poly finish - so it’s perhaps a different body
  9. The advert is back up so consciously aware he’s selling not a RW - avoid https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325824241709?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=wrOquW_CRvy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=qxwjsrkpQX6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  10. Yes it’s a second hand bass I’ve seen
  11. Already been in touch haha. He won’t post and he’s away next weekend and I have gigs etc for rest of Oct weekends so no go
  12. Cost me with UPS and import charges about £300 to import a bass earlier this year - but probably wont again as lost £250 when the GAS faded and sold it on
  13. There’s one out there same for about 950 weighs 10.2lbs. I’d hurt my shoulder when fell off my push bike so I noticed it after 3 hour rehearsals sure are purdy basses
  14. The 70s RI was my bass for 15 years. Was just too heavy. I’m tempted to get another and just get a super wide strap
  15. Yeah don’t know what primer is there. What was the neck like? How fat is a U shape? The pots look great. I really like the 60s anniversaries too but don’t like the pay ferro neck
  16. Didn’t know sorry mods. The problem no speaks of. But yeah get it. It’s a bass forum but it’s stopping us getting basses from across the channel. ok will never say the word again. Like Macbeth is called the Scottish Play. I’ll just refer to it as the Shittish Play.
  17. I’m certainly warming to this but I’m also looking at a Flea bass and thinking with nitro finish could be easy to get the finish off and the 61 specs look great 😊
  18. I remember what it was I found in stage in the dark it was really hard to see the white reference dots on the top of the neck compared to the wood colour - only a small thing and I generally know where I am on the neck but it irked me
  19. That’s lovely but I’m after a stripped body without the high gloss coat ta
  20. I have done but I’m not good with soldering as I have really shaky hands (due to thyroid condition) also I want the aged body look but again dying wood grain isn’t my forte. So I’d rather pay someone who’s already good at these things as I’m not confident I’d make myself a good bass from scratch. The only ‘build’ I’ve done is take the bits I liked from two basses but soldering is a challenge for me
  21. 🙄 it was the European Union we were leaving. They didn’t have the intelligence to realise it’d open up trade/immigration with large trading blocs like India - which is lovely irony The real reason so many Tories wanted Brexit was to rip up worker’s rights and “increase” production and also become a tax heaven- it’s an utter shambles I ordered an amp from Thomann took 5 days to arrive. 45 days to return it!
  22. Don’t get me started. It’s been an utter disaster
  23. Yikes! That puts that idea to bed
  24. How much does it now cost in import duty to get a bass from France? im sure there must be threads and knowledge here apols for all the posts tonight BCers
  25. This is what I’d really like something like this. Passive and natural with rosewood board light in weight around 8lbs - recommended builders or people on here?
