  1. Update. The truss rod cover was reversed for some reason.  I will need new screws.

I removed the strings and cleaned up the sticker (scraped it off with the edge of a CD, then used nail varnish remover).

I will remove the bridge and give it a good clean.

The electronics look to be in good nick.

    You lucky werewolf! :)

Original had knurled brass knobs with a grub screw - yours has most prob had plastic put on when someone knicked the brass ones for another project, or maybe just preferred the look.

You know the rules - pics or it didn't happen! ;)

    Love my Thunder 1A :)

    Nice colour.

I will post a pic asap. That's what I reckoned about the knobs; they're pretty pricy.

The best thing is that it was FREE!!!!!! 😎

  3. I just picked what appears to be a Thunder 1A. One P pick up, two to be and one volume control,  with 2 switches. The control knobs are black plastic with numbers, not brass though. The serial number puts it at mid 1983.

It's a bit tatty cosmetically but the electronics look tidy and the neck is good.

Any ideas why the knobs are plastic? Replacement brass ones are really ££££

I was very cynical prior to getting one, just couldn't believe that something at that price point could be any good. Excellent piece of kit and stupendously good value.

I bought it as an alternative to the Vox Amplug. I was not expecting much to be honest, as I remember my brother having a guitar zoom in the early 2000s. It was horrible. This is good though.

Anyone know if they're actually halfway decent though?

Tempted to give it a go.

Bought a Thomann one. It's not half bad. The colour is awful but looks like it will do the job until I buy a Fusion double gig bag.

  6. I'm 38, have played bass since I was 14, but concentrated on drums from age 20 to last year. I played drums in black metal bands generally.  My bass playing is pretty metal influenced too; I like sludgy, heavy grooves generally.

I had sold most of my gear to fund drums (SWR Workingman head, Peavey 1x15black widow cab and some basses) so I had to buy new stuff recently!

Basses  - Charvette  by Charvel 4 string (my 1st bass), Active EMG pickups, EpiphoneToby Deluxe

Amp - Tech 21 VT Bass 500, TC Electronic K212 cab

Pedals - Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, EHX Bass Deluxe Big Muff, Way Huge Swollen Pickle, Tom'sLine Tuner. Danelectro Fabtone distortion (the old burgundy one!).

Little Bear Wooly Mammoth clone on its way to me in the post too.

I am thinking of picking up a Harley Benton fretless for a bit of cheap fun. I miss my Status fretless

  7. They arrived.  Wow. Talk about value for money! The rhythms are awesome, lots of useable sounds, an accurate tuner, and not as fragile as I thought. Still not going on a pedal board, but awesome for its purpose.

Checked the website and it's back up to £99.  Pity, I would have tried it at £30, but not at £99.  I'll just keep an eye on the Effects for Sale forum . . .

    I saw this.

I just blew the money I had saved towards a Boss bass chorus on a Zoom B1on. Not in the same league but thwre are some nice toys on there; it's for home practice, not live though. I will have to buy a dedicated chorus at some point.

I saw an Eden for £55 on eBay yesterday.
