  1. I saw the trailer for Spinal Tap 2 yesterday.  I *really* want to like it, and it definitely has a few funny parts. I'm fairly certain that it won't be good though. I hope to be proven wrong.

I just sorted through the tickets for upcoming shows and it's quite a lot.

    New Model Army

    Skindred

    Discharge / Conflict

    Airborne

    Svalbard

    Blood Incantation

Arctangent Festival (Karnivool, Godspeed You Black Emperors, Melvins, Kylesa Tesseract, etc)

Blood Incantation is phenomenal. I'm usually a black/doom listeniner, but I really like BI.

I must admit, I thought all Fender & Squier neck & pocket dimensions would be fairly standard - but I once compared this to a MIM Fender, and the neck was just a tad too tight for the neck pocket.... of course, a bit of filing / sanding the neck heel would have helped. (I didn't opt for that body though).

It's not for a squier body, in my case. I have a Charvette body, with a broken neck.

Snare drum sound is a new one on me.

You do realise that now you've put that in my head i'll be listening to snare drums from here on in. :laugh1:

It's my 'tism. My brain latches onto the strangest  things (so other people tell me).

The snare drum sound on Slipknot 'Iowa' pushed me so far into black metal, you wouldn't believe it haha.

And yes, I get the irony of that, but I'm still a production snob. 😉

Its funny how we all differ in opinions but Geddy's vocals was one of the reasons i liked them. For me it blended well with the music and was different from the average singer.

His voice has always been a bit of a "marmite" thing even back in 76 when i first heard them the vocals were a discussion point on radio shows and magazine.

    Dave

I remember first hearing Rush on the very first 'Kerrang the Album' whenever that came out. My opinion hasn't changed despite multiple attempts to overlook it. I do admit that vocals and (for some reason) snare drum sound can be a make or break thing for me. 🤔

  6. I can take it or leave it to be honest. I've never liked Geddy Lee's vocals.  I appreciate the musical competence, but it doesn't move me. It lacks that *magic* for me.

I've probably broken several laws as both a drummer and bassist.

  7. Online it will be PayPal goods and services, every time.  I will happily pay the extra 3% fee.

If I can turn up to someone's house with cash for an item and see it works etc, then that's fine. I also know where they live (for certain)....😉

My location tends to limit my ability to buy in person though.

PayPal goods and services can be abused by the buyer too. I did my first purchase here with a member, and we used this method. We did a lot of back and forth conversation though.

  8. As some here know, I'm a bit of a metalhead. This, however is fantastic.  I discovered I liked Nina Simone when I first saw the Bridget Fonda film 'Assassin' a loooooong time ago. I figured I'd actually listen to an entire album rather than a 'best of' or soundtrack.

The pink vinyl edition arrived this morning. 😉

  9. Noob question....

Is this worth the extra outlay over a Source Audio C4 or a Future Impact pedal for those of us that are dipping our toes into synth bass?

Is the Aguilar pre' wired/connected correctly? If so, sounds as if there could be a mis-match between it and the pickups.

As the issue is the same in passive mode, you are likely correct that you need a pickup that will play nicely with it. The obvious choice is Aguilar, which ought to work with your pre'. I'd take your tech's advice. No point in buying/trying stuff on spec'. You could easily end up spending more than it will cost to get the right one in the first place.

The only way to find out whether the ones you already have will work is to try them.

The same tech that fitted it is on holiday for another month or so.

I'm thinking about asking him to check it's all wired right. Quite frankly it sounds horrible.

  11. Niche question here.

I have a Westone Thunder 1A, which needed a new preamp; the old one tried to commit arson. My guitar guy recommended an Aguilar OBP-3, which he fitted.

The main issue is that the bass now sounds so trebly on the upper two stings that it is almost unusable. It's harsh and nasal no matter what I do.

I think the issue is the pickups; there's no scope for height adjustment on the stock P Pickups either.

To be fair, the issue sounds similar passive mode.

I'm looking at a pickup replacement at this point, I assume.

Any advice on reasonably priced replacement (P style)?

I have an old EMG set hanging around, as well as an old passive Doomster P pickup.  I'll likely have my luthier fit it; the obp3 electronic are terrifying.

    Cheers

If you look at the reviews and comments about couriers on this site you can understand why they don't want to use couriers!

Also, collection only means that the buyer has a chance to inspect/try it before commiting to it.

Some of us live in the arse end of nowhere and have no choice but to use God awful couriers.
