I think the amp is fooked, switched it on and it crackled and died.
It won't even power up now. 😡

Yep, I'm not very technical when it comes to amps but that does sound broke.

If your 4-ohm 2x10 uses two 8 ohm drivers in parallel (which it almost certainly will), you could rewire it with the drivers in series to become a 16 ohm cab. Then both cabs together would be a 5.3 ohm load with the 2x10 using half as much of the amp's power as the 4x10, which seems ideal. You would want to disconnect any crossover and tweeter components in the 2x10" if you went this route.

This would be mychoice of thing to do if you are insistent in using both cabs.

Have you ever had a car, and stuck "go-faster" tape down the side? Ever stuck an M series badge on a bog standard beemer? Or a R series badge on a really slow Audi?

Same thing. Does NO HARM whatsoever. The only folks you upset are the folks who paid the stupid price for the real thing.

The rest of the world doesn't give a flying F*** :)

do you ever buy plain polo shirts from primark and stitch Fred Perry emblems on it?

I find it a wee bit embarrassing when i see a BMW with a M badge stuck on.

It works the same for instruments.

Promethean 3110 still available new. And it's a good little amp!

So it Is! Interesting! Although.. it doesn't seem to have a matching 3xtension cab.... argh!!

I know you want a combo but as mentioned above, surely a pair of 1 x 10 cabs and a lightweight amp is the way to go?

I have a Barefaced one10 and a GK MB200 and the tone and volume might surprise a lot of players. It's an easy carry in a cajon bag. Add another one10 if required.

What's not to like about that set-up? :)

Which is what I'll probably end up doing due to the lack of choice really, but for home use and for wee jam sessions a combo would be my preferred choice now. Less cables in the house the better, I say!

Yup, I think the MiBass is likely your best option.
I've got a MiBass 2.0 and two Mi10 cabs, I might consider moving them on further down the line if you're interested, how much of a hurry are you in?

Ah i thought the mibass was actually a combo? Not a 'attach the head to the cabinet and call it a combo' type setup? I've already got a microhead so i could just pick up 2 1x10 cabs, but for tidyness around the house, i really wanted a combo. The combo would live in my studio (ie corner of my bedroom) and the ext cab would live hidden away for when i have a gig.

    Carvin MB10 has a matching 2x10.

That's pretty much exactly what i had imagined... This seems discontinued though?

Clearly due to lack of options there can't be a market for it!

  8. Cheers folks. What i mean is, a combo that has a matching extension speaker cab, another 1x10. Allowing us to have a small amp for house use but then a 2x10 rig when you need to push a bit more air? I'm thinking the ashdown mibass is the only one i can find. Alot of the 10" amps are rated very low and don't even have extension cab sockets.

1x12s such as markbass cmd 121p exists, but that and extension cab is hitting 4 figures... Slightly out my budget....

I'm slightly surprised there's not a lot of options for this to be honest!

  9. I love these things. And they play wonderfully! I bought one of the cheap ones they do a few years ago. Recorded a full album with it.. sounded Great, but sold it as I just couldn't see myself playing it live. I'm a big lad and ibfelt like I was playing a you guitar! 😂😂😂

  10. Take out the mega lows for stage purposes and let the pa do the hard work.

I eq out alot below 50hz. I know that might technocally affect the actual tone but it's hardly noticeable in my experience. It lets the audible frequencies become...well... more audible. You can squeeze alot more out a wee cabinet than you'd imagine, aslong as you're realistic.

**disclaimer - there's nothing scientific about this post, it's just from my experience **

amazing how much you save when you don't have to research and develop it :)

if everyone bought these copies, Tech21 would go bust, then what will they copy?

Luckily they sell enough to keep going hehe

not having a go at anyone buying a bargain, I certainly have with Joyo pedal boards and power supplies, just making a point.

I managed to snag a fly rig at nearly half price, used from a distributor and it really is nice, hope this one is as good for you.

Yep I agree. I actually wrote a bit on my post saying the same thing but I deleted it before posting. It's pretty scandalous that it seems to be acceptable for companies to do this.

  12. I've actually got higher through the years. Back when i started it was all about getting aa low as possible. Now I very rarely play heavy rock or particularly fast things so having a gast action isn't required. The clean tone from a medium high action is my ideal sound.
