1. I ordered my Maruszczyk fretless purely based on instinct of the type of build I wanted and the sound of the pickup demoed on YouTube. I couldn't be happier with the result. Adrian has so many pickup demos that you can listen too that I'm sure your preferred configuration would be available to listen to (although you might have to piece it together from various clips). Adrian also has a marvellous intuition as to where to place pickups, my build is 33" scale and he placed the MM where it would work best for that scale. Take a chance, so many others of us have, I highly doubt you'll be sorry.

  2. Martin Turner has played T'birds for donkey's years, his tone on Argus et al is pretty marvellous. I think The Ox used one on Who's Next too, maybe even Quadrophenia, although that might be a Fenderbird. Didn't Stuart Zender have a dalliance with a Triumph?

I appreciate you're a Fender guy, but I feel compelled to ask if you've checked these basses out (Jake 1, Jake 2). Just in case :-)
You beat me to it. Maruszczyk fanboys we might be, but with very, very good reasons.

  4. I've done this a few times; learning sets of tunes I'm not that keen on for deps. What I have found is, although it's a PITA, it's a great way of keeping your chops up and often you find that the same tunes crop up in many band's sets (you know the ones I mean) so it's also good for the future.

  5. I picked up the guitar when I was about twelve and was ok, come my mid-twenties I wanted to get more work (guitarists are ten a penny after all), so I switched to bass, which I've always loved the sound of. Wouldn't you know it I was then being asked to play guitar! Anyway, I went back to the six string razor and got quite good IMO (Musicians Institute course and all that) gigged a fair bit, but was never really happy as I always felt others were much better and natural at than I was, so, at forty, I went back to the bass and haven't looked back since. Mrs Ez has said I'm a much better bass player than a guitarist (although I still play and own two) and I feel far more at home with the bass.

Are we in the same pub? Yes, the big 24 hour tesco here is directly over the road!
Hmm, music pubs and 24 hour Tescos, sounds like a conspiracy ;) We were in Purley, Surrey (for a value of Surrey).

The irony is, on leaving the venue half an hour afterwards the music from the pub on the next corner that has no noise complaints (we have played their too) was pretty loud.
Well this pub is on a very, very noisy one way system with a massive 24 hour Tesco opposite and an endless stream of blues and twos. I heard that this new neighbour has been complained about by the folk who were already living there. I wonder if people actually do any 'due diligence' before buying a new property?

  8. Back at one of old haunts and we too played for two and a half hours. Unfortunately, someone has moved next door to the venue and has been complaining about the noise from the pub (not just bands either, recorded music played during a lunchtime BBQ) so the council have been involved. Why on earth do people move to these locations knowing full well it'll be noisy, it's stupidness beyond measure? Maybe they like closing down music venues as a pastime - b@5tards! Anyhoo, it was a good gig and I have finally managed to play Wherever I Lay My Hat live and it went down a storm, much to my surprise.

To be fair, I have noticed this about Adrian, sent him a couple of emails and nothing.

However as soon as I sent it from a different account I got a reply back in a couple of seconds, not sure if that means anything, but you never know. Email systems can be weird sometimes.
Sounds like a potential junk folder issue at his end.
