I have the fretless SRH500f  and it's lighter than my bedroom slippers.

My scales are industrial packing scales, so pretty accurate.  I weighed the bass, and realised i'd left the rather hefty 4 inch leather strap on, so weighed

    the strap separately.

Bass with strap -  3.1 kg

    Strap                  -  0.35 kg

So the bass actually weighs 2.75 kg ...or in old money,  6.05 Lbs

That's a semi hollow bass so obviously will be lighter, the SR500 has a solid mahogany body, but is still lighter than most basses.

  2. Phantom power is used to power Microphones in general,Phantom Power is a term given to the process of delivering DC (Direct Current) to microphones requiring electric power to drive active circuitry. Condenser microphones such as Shure's KSM range all have active circuitry and require phantom power.

Well that shows he was either 'making an artistic statement', or that maybe he just wasn't the sharpest tool in the box................

Either one maybe but he wasn't the first player in history to disrespect his instrument.

    Yes he is.

I'd say he was the best punk bassist of the time.

I concur totally ,he was something else, nothing fancy ,just got his head down and played the damn thing, one of the reasons i took up the Bass Guitar all those years ago.

I saw that photo on an article that led with a quote along the lines of "when I got new basses I didn't respect them, I'd attack them with a hammer" or something similar.aybe that's what the op is referring to?

That the one buddy, his quote was...

"I'd chucked my basses around before and didn't have any respect for them in the first place. The moment I got a new bass I'd get a hammer and start bashing it around." - Paul Simonon.

i saw the clash back in Derby(Kings Hall) in 1978 , i stood about 20 feet away from Paul, and everyone thought ,whats going on with Pauls bass it looks totally wrecked, and remember this was before Road Worn came into fashion, having delved into Pauls early bass exploits ,i now understand why.The lad was a great Player though, even if he had no respects for his instruments.

For years when choosing what attire to wear when gigging ( rock bands ) I’ve always worn a T-shirt mainly black of course !!

As a returning bass player we do tend to dress smarter I find or have an individual style on stage, ie hats for example

I’ve now changed to wearing long sleeved shirts ( making sure buttons are not metal ) and I think it looks more in keeping with mature bass players ..

So for you mature gigging bass players have you left behind the humble T shirt for something smarter on stage ?

Depends on how good your Tats are.

  7. Like no doubt many Bass Players before me have labelled this tune as one of the greatest Bass lines ever written, I myself have tried nail this tune down for yonks, but never quite got the sound.? So a quickie for you, I know that a lot of what Freddie's sound was about was his fingers, but I was just thinking what strings he may have been using.

  8. A band such as ELO only ever achieved one number one hit, and that was because of Olivia Newton Johns Input(Xanadu), and yet a bland uninspiring act like Coldplay has two to their name, life was never fair, Coldplay aren't fit to lace up Jeff Lynn's boots who was an absolute musical genius ,that must p him off .

I was really lucky with my punk/new-wave covers band as they generally were up for loads of stuff I wanted to do.

Often it wasn't even me who suggested it - one of the others would say how about X and I'd be thinking wow I've always wanted to do that!  I'd play it cool of course... yeah, I suppose we could squeeze that into the set 😉!

But we ceased trading after lockdown, so I'll take this spin on the question... here are three songs I had a big ambition to do, we had gotten gig-ready, but never played to an audience:

    • Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones
    • Goo-Goo Muck - The Cramps
    • Spanish Stroll - Mink DeVille

Had a blast doing them in rehearsal though!

    Spanish stroll classic that one.

    Sounds like it is broken.

Having said that, why are you reducing the voltage to 7 volts on the power supply? I assume it still doesn't work properly on 9V?

Sorry I have that wrong ,it is fact 9 v ,and yes it still doesn't work properly with it switching off or going dead.

  11. ?Would anyone have an idea as to what could be the problem I'm having with the above.

When the Zoom  is plugged into my pc USB port, it works normally for a short period of maybe three or four minutes and then it kind of freezers and becomes  inoperable ,and the same thing happens when its run from Batteries as well, I have tried it with a power supply a generic one i have with variable voltage set at 7 volts ,still the same. I have emailed Zoom customer service but have not had any replies at all in four weeks. Almost losing faith with this now.
