  1. Anything Chuck Rainey, some of the most melodic  bass lines ever from a mainstream act in years gone by.

All Bassists should learn at least at Four of Rainey's Lines, and they are not that difficult to be fair.

My Old School, And  Ricky Don't Loose That Number are both a crackers but i think Walter Becker played Bass on those two.

Right well ill use the fishing analogy for you.A couple of weeks ago i went Fishing with a mate who's Loaded,a couple of days before we went he went out and bought a 3 Grand Pole,he was chuffed to bits that he had this top of the range dangler.WE both rocked up  at the venue, he pulled out this shinny new 3 grand  exquisite pole , i pulled out my £250 one,I caught  154LB of Carp over a Six hour session,he caught 63ilb.Iv'e been a Fisherman all my life ,he only started about 3Years ago.I rest my case.

There are so many.   Cover of “Comfortably Numb” by The Scissor Sisters springs to mind.

Also that awful dirgey cover  of “Mad world” a few years ago that spawned a thousand other awful dirgey covers - it would depress me too much to google who it was (though I guess excluded from the thread as he was neither great or good)

Worst one for me - and everyone here will disagree with this, as for some reason it’s regarded as a classic - is Joe Cocker’s “With a little help from my friends”.  I have to turn the radio off if it comes on......

Edit: Actually no, I have wronged poor old JC.   I have a cheapo Christmas compilation CD with a cover of “Fairytale of New York” sung by Máire Brennan of Clannad (who makes a pretty decent stab of her part) and Ronan Keating (who really, really doesn’t)....🙁

Lets face it Shaggy ,the Original wasn't that good was it ?

    I've got the pink G&L Tribute JB2.

It's very light. Really nice neck. Typical jazz width but thicker front to back.

The neck almost  looks like it's untreated but  has a very light finish applied to it.

It sounds great with both pickups on full.

It has plenty of other tonal options but the traditional both pickups on full works really well for me.

Love the P style body shape. It's very comfortable to play and balances well.

The pink finish is very pink and shiny. Almost wished I had picked a different colour.

That's interesting regarding the neck thickness. I've been looking at the sonic Blue one at Andertons which looks white in the Photo but has a Rosewood Fingerboard, i like the idea of the P bass type body as well as i find that the traditional offset type body which seems to be the norm with J basses a little too big for my body if you know what I mean, .anyway great reply thanks.

  6. I saw them live in Nottingham in 1975,no one back then ever described Roxy has being underrated, they where a massive influence on so many other bands over the years Even Bowie copied them to some extent, so the word Underrated is not valid at all really.

I found it! It’s quite old and has some of my own notes on it that I made when I was learning it, way back when. These notes helped me for the timing and other things, but may mean nothing to you, for which I apologise. Hopefully, you’ll find something in this that helps.

Thank you so much ,will have a go at it tomorrow .
