Squire Affinity range basses can be very impressive. I've owned one that played and sounded better than some American Standard Fenders. Should have kept it (like many that I've sold in the past).

Modulus Quantum 4

For sale is this beautiful Modulus Quantum 4 with a nice cherry burst finish and stunning quilted maple top.
Preamp and pickups are made by Bartolini.

The preamp functions are; volume, pickup selector, mids, bass/treble stacked. Mini switches are for active/passive and mid frequency selection. The preamp output can be controlled by a trimpot.

The bass is in very good used condition with a few small damages and usermarks.

The scale is 35", which is a bit too much for me (when I bought it, the seller assured me it was 34").

A non original hardcase is included. Same goes for the straplock buttons.

Yeah there are some nice fancy colours out there. A lot of variation on these. 

The strap is a Mono Betty, very comfortable and sturdy indeed. Not included in the sale though

Modulus Quantum Q5

For sale is this beautiful Modulus Quantum Q5, made in 1996. It is equipped with EMG pickups and preamp (vol/vol/bass/treble). This beast has a great deep, clear and growly sound. The B is tight and has a very pleasing authority.

The bass is in good condition with no serious damages, only some small lacquer damages here and there. The neck is straight with little relief from the factory. The frets are in good condition.

One of the bridge saddle height screws is missing.

The original case is included. It is kinda wrecked (don't ask me what happened, I got it like this) but still closes well and could be used for transportation.

I truly enjoy the sound of this 5-er, but the 35" scale cramps my fretting hand when playing on the lower registers of the B and E string for a longer time. I thought I could deal with the scale due to the 17mm stringspacing, but no. For me it's not the keeper I thought it would be .

Now I'll be looking for either a 34" quantum (if any out there) or a nice Stingray 5, which will be more friendly for my fretting hand.

It was for sale on reverb at a Swedish vintage shop. I made an offer I'd never think would be accepted, but it happened. 

I always kinda regretted selling my '71 I've owned a few years ago. Just as I was thinking. About it last week, this '70 popped up.

In the advertising there was no mentioning of the original invoice and tags. It's also a surprise that the case has a Fender branded plate on it. So those were pleasant surprises.

I had an happy accident:

Late '70, complete with original Swedish purchase invoice and Hagstrom case with Fender nameplate.

Yes these were made in an era where many variations can be found. I´ve owned a dot and bound siennaburst ´82 with s8 serial number. It had the chrome covers, but no thumb rest. That bass had that typical bright ´70s jazz bass sound.

Modulus Funk Unlimited (Flea)

For sale is my great Modulus Funk Unlimited from 2008, in highly desirable blue flake finish.
It’s equipped with a Seymour Duncan pickup and Aguilar OBP-1 preamp; a great sounding combo with huge output.

The bass is in clean, excellent condition. Everything works as it’s supposed to. Frets are good too. Playability is superb with a very low action. I’ve never had a lower action on any other bass.

Weight is 4.5kg on my kitchen scales.

The original hardcase is included, which has some damages but functions well.

It's kind of a reluctant sale, but new purchases mean I have to make some choices.

Partial trades are considered. I'm especially interested in a 5er with narrow stringspacing (early 90s Stingray ideally). No straight trades please, I sell this to gain a decent amount of cash.

It's truly nice indeed, I like it. But the cheap looking pickguards ruins it a bit for me to be honest.

At these price points they should have top quality tort guards fitted. People who pay Custom Shop kinda cash are happy to lay another 150 for a Spitfire quality pickguard.

A good looking pickguard would make a huge positive difference in the overall appearance.

To me it feels like they are being a bit arrogant, like "why bother, it will sell anyway". No interest to inform potential customers at all.

Personally I wouldn't bother to buy from such a store. If looking for vintage Fender stuff in the UK, I'd go to Andy Baxter. He IS knowledgeable and takes effort to inform potential buyers about each item for sale.

Actually, such type adverts with no info are unacceptable from private sellers already. You'd be burned to the ground if you put an add like that on here 😉

If you ask "modern" prices for your late 70s Fender, at least take the effort to write a text about how amazing it is.

The pickguard in the "all original" precision is a replacement. Any bass dealer that represent themselves as knowledgeable should see this in one second. And double check if making such statements.

The refin on the '60 looks nice though.

For a Stingray sound-alike on a budget, the Ibanez ATK has always been a good option. Would still like a 5-er if it crosses my path.

Super nice. I would have done the same. At that price, you need it.

My Funk Unlimited has a ´truss rod´. It´s actually not a truss, but only does 3 settings; neutral, a bit flatter or a bit more relief. I think I´ve left it neutral as the fretboard is almost flat with little relief. I did try it out though and there was a noticable difference in action when changinging the adjustment.

Any love for the Modulus Q5-ers on here?

For a while I've been on the lookout for a 5 with narrower stringspacing like a Stingray. I marked the Modulus Quantum as very interesting (I like the way these graphite necks seem to respond) a while ago, but the 35" scale gave me doubts. Apparently there are 34" scale Q5 basses around, but I haven't seen them for sale anywhere. Not that they are super common in any form.

Anyway, 3 weeks ago a very attractive one (to my taste) popped up on reverb. I ignored my fear of the 35" scale and made a deal with the seller. A week later I had a beautiful second Modulus (my other one is a Funk unlimited) at home. It's a '96 model so it has no trussrod. The neck has just a little relief te accomodate the strings some room for vibration, the action is pretty low.

I am very positively surprised about the playability. The only other 35" I've played felt much less compact; it had a larger stringspacing, but probably also other balance. I don't have any trouble with the scale on the Q5 at all. So that's great.

Soundwise I like the Q5 very much. I have one with the EMG system. I like it, it's clear and tight, even and dynamic at the same time. The whole bass sounds well balanced from the B to the G string.

Price dropped

I used to care about weight because of a sensitive shoulder. 

A few years back though I started doing workouts at the gym, which helped me massively. Nowadays I could gig a 5kg bass easily for a long while without a moment of being uncomfortable. The balance of the instrument is more important to me.

That being said, I use a good comfortable Mono Betty strap with heavier basses. 

That's what I think too. Dating in the pickup cavity with pencil. Definitely no stamps. And like you said it probably shouldn't have a paint stick mark. Burst is also not correct. 

The other parts, if original; I think black bottom pickups? And a pickguard with wider bevel. Bridge is also consistent with late '60s/early '70s.

I'm tempted to think that he doesn't have a partsbass, but that it's all original (based on the available pics).
