  1. Thought I’d revisit my old thread..!

The QSC k10.2 is getting gigged twice this weekend. It’s being fed by my Hotone preamp DI (I know, right?) and I’m loving it as much as day 1.

On the fence? Just get one. Revolutionise your bass experience

  2. I’m a lefty. I play righty.

Back when I was a nipper I tried both lefty and righty.

Lefty felt abhorrent and utterly bewildering - righty felt reasonably confusing but much more natural!

Learned righty - there’s no way I’d have the coordination to play lefty.

We are all weird and somewhat unique individuals.

  3. I’ve been having a good play, and I’d say that if you are looking for an easy way to give a P bass a bit more tonal variety or something extra then this is the way to do it.

It’s a damn site easier than routing a bridge pickup in and it’s actually reversible (the east one has a push pull for on off and a rechargeable battery) - I do like the config on Alan’s version tho.

Thanks for the advice chaps - you’ve steered me towards making a really great bass even better

  4. P-Retro delivered and fitted.

Needed an extra hole for the second dpdt switch (amp on/off) but otherwise it was a simple job.

Range of tones is very impressive - the boost is really useful and I love the split mid-boost or treble/bass boost - just sweeping that single knob gives a huge tonal range. The deep boost is really good as well.

Love it. The east stuff is really high quality and Alan is a real gent.

Same great lightweight feel and playability but with a totally new range of tones. And flick the switch to passive and it sounds just like it did before (perhaps with a bit more sparkle which is probably the tone cap)

  5. Barefaced Compact Gen2.

It's not been gigged since I've had it, and it was in really good nick when I got it off here. Original handle and no damage, all feet in tact, all corners on and no dents, tolex in great condition with no rips, tears or shrinking. Sounds great and broken in nicely! Comes with a Roqsolid cover.

Ideally I want a trade - and the real preference would be a Barefaced OneTen as I need something super small and light for acoustic style gigs - the Vanderkley 2x10 aint that (!)

I'm near Peterborough, Lincs, and don't have a suitable box for posting, but happy to travel around a not-too-stupid distance for the right offer or for a really good trade.

This is my office for ska gigs. For gigs with the other bands, I also take my Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live which connects to/from the rig via a homebrewed cable snake.

You have an office just for Ska gigs? Cor...!

  7. Electro Harmonix Battalion - for the ££ it performs really well and up there with the Ampeg, Sansamp and other offerings - a proper sleeper bargain if you are after a preamp DI with a reasonable distortion onboard. It's been on my mini-pedalboard with a tuner and wireless receiver for a good 4 months and gets out regularly for live work.

Precisely. Absolutely agree. There are some really lovely relic'd basses out there and a lot quite natural though some do look forced but, this makes no sense to be but then again, I suppose it ain't aimed at someone like me ;)

Yeah, but it looks like it’s aimed at Captain Birdseye or Spongebob...

You might try the ALTO ts312 or others in the series. Decent price, sound and improved drivers and amp compared to the ts212 (which got plenty good reviews). We just bought the ts312 as monitor for our drummer and he is delighted but jury is still until we give it a good run through its paces.

Also occasional good deals online  - Thomann have/had the highly regarded RCF 310A MK 2 FOR UNDER 300 EURO.

Next move upwards is to Yamaha dxr and qsc k10.2 but that is a serious £ jump.

    good luck.

I have a QSC 10.2 and don’t use it at home - it’s too much. I think therefore it depends on room size - my small mancave practice room suits studio monitors but a 10.2 is just a bit too much. Two of them would be ridiculous.

The P-retro was in the plans for that bass originally.  If you ever get tired of it just drop me a line. Awesome bass...

Well it’s back on the cards for it ;)

I have a feeling this one is a bit special. I very much doubt I’d ever let this one go - but my policy is usually to go back to the point of origin for first dibs ;)

  11. Spoken to Alan on email. Wow, quick response - thanks Alan!

He’s pricing me up a P-Retro harness and I’ll stick one extra hole in so I can keep the series/parallel switch, with an extra dpdt for passive/active and the usual p-retro setup.

Should give loads of extra tonal variety and still gives me those two basic passive tones which I like already.

Top stuff. Once ordered and here I’ll do a mini-upgrade blog here..
