I played my buddy's and was very impressed.

Funnily enough, this was just posted and hus sounds he's getting are killer.

The ones with the fake drums louder than the bass really detract from the demo.

Overall the sounds weren't bad and pretty much covered what I'd use it for - a replacement for a load of sounds which can be used for effect rather than as an alwaye-on/preamp unit.

I have mine in a switcher loop so it's out of circuit when not being used.

Goodbye tail lift and hello to easier intonation! Great upgrade while maintaining the overall vintage Ric vibe.

    🙂

I just fancied trying one out.

If I like it, the mapleglo might get one too.

  3. I hear good things about the Fender Jazz Geddy Lee model, but if I got one I'd have to replace the pickguard, 'cos I don't want to be Geddy.

I'd also consider an Alembic Stanley Clarke, because I have a couple of old albums with them on the cover.

I might consider a Rickenbacker Chris Squire model, but he said they sound nothing like his one and they are way overpriced (they're not actually his bass, folks).

Similarly I'd have one of the Rickenbacker Lemmy models, though I'm not a Lemmy fan but I just like the styling; however they're way overpriced too.

Looks really tidy. If it was local to me, I'd be half-tempted to make a cheeky lowball offer just out of curiosity.

Although I did play one of these in a shop when they were new (first headless I ever touched, in fact) and my initial impression was that it was rubbish. IIRC the guy in the shop apologised & said it "wasn't exactly a Steinberger".

I was half-inclined to make an offer, but I just plain don't get the idea of a headless with regular tuners at the opposite end; I thought the same about a real Kramer I saw a while back.

Going back to the comments earlier about the new bridge position. Regardless of whether you like the colour of this instrument or not (that's another discussion) here's a good example of how it spoils the look. That gap in the binding is usually hidden by the tailpiece but with the whole assembly moved forward it just makes the guitar look unfinished IMHO.

Yep - I wouldn't buy a new one for that reason.

  6. (Squier.)

You can check the necks are the same scale length by putting them face to face and confirming that the frets and end of fingerboard align precisely.

As to fitting, it just depends whether the screw holes line up.

A word of advice (as much to myself as you!) always make sure you have the exact right size screwdriver for the neck screws or you will mash the screw heads.

If ever proof were needed,  then here it is.

    Mondeléz own both Cadbury and the Kraft/Jacobs/Suchard brands;

Hence the Toblerone debacle in which they put greater spaces between the triangles. May sound trivial,  but such was the uproar that they relented and went back to the old Toblerone form factor.

It was equivalent to something like a 50% price increase (ie. you would need to by one and a half bars to get the same amount).

I've never bought a Toblerone since; I didn't know they'd reverted the change.

Shrinkflation as they call it. It's very noticeable in a wide and varied selection of food products.

Yep - totally hacks me off; it's like they're looking you straight in the eyes whilst they're ripping you off!

I've taken to shopping at Costco, where things are BIG!

It may or may not be cheaper, but try finding that size in the supermarkets.

(I haven't bought a tin of those, BTW.)

I've still got an old SparcStation 5 in the loft. If you come across that card then I'd love to have it to see if it I can get it up and running - I seem to recall it was essentially a single board computer with a 386 or 486 processor on it.

I think mine may have been a 286 - I'm needing to have a clear-out, so will see what I find.
I've still got some hard disks, keyboards, mice, cables in need of sorting out too.

That was Interactive Unix, which was completely separate from Sun's port of Solaris to the x86 architecture.

They had another product that would run Windows under Solaris which I played around with in the 1990s. Then Sun bought Star Division, who made the office suite StarOffice, and the easy availability of that negated any need I had to run Windows applications on a Unix platform. StarOffice became OpenOffice, which after Oracle mucked it about following their acquisition of Sun was, ahem, eclipsed by being splitting off to become LibreOffice.

Ah yes - I had one of those cards; might still be somewhere around.
