I'll save time and say an 810 is completely out of the question.

then it doesn't matter what you get, the 8x10 is THE Ampeg tone. Any other cab will sound like a similar spec cab of any make

  2. I don't give a rat's derrière what anyone in the audience thinks. I play solely original music in 3 bands. We play because we like each other's company and the music is fun for us. If any members of the public like it too, that's a bonus. At our age,(over 50) life's too short to worry about if the audience can see my tuner......

    😂😂

(You'd be surprised actually. Some of the discontinued ones are creeping up in price.)

blimey, you might have to buy an original pedal, you know, designed and built by the one company.....

PS taking the PI55 , I have high end pedals and Behringer stuff too,

I would like to ‘un second’ (and ‘un first’ for that matter) the notion of buying chairs on line. All I did was ask an experienced gamer what he would recommend and ordered one of them. Bit expensive, but oh so worth it. Only problem is, whenever I lean back in it, I fall asleep 😂, it’s that comfortable.

when you are on the large side you need to see if you can fit into it first :)

    not your problem, mine

if you take a combo to a gig you haven't forgotten to take the head. Which I have done.

But yes, a 500w Elf would be awesome :)

wow you must smoke way more wacky backy than I do to have such a bad memory lol, but it's impossible to smoke more than I do.....

  6. we are very lucky Down Under in that our OzBass forum (pop in and say Hi btw) is a tight knit bunch and being a smaller group,we all know each other very well and sell and buy with complete trust.

No qualms in sending $1000 via Paypal family and friends.

One guy posted my pedal to me before payment had been made. I bought a $1,000 amp from interstate,a recording desk ,basses, never a problem. We have a rule where you have to be a 'supporting member" to buy and sell, seems to keep the riffraff away.

I might have to look at plectrum playing. I've played fingerstyle for 30 years.

Not going to be an easy transition - and probably not going to sound right for my big band either - if it ever starts up again.

try wooden picks. I bought some from a Canadian guy, treepicks is the business name.

Has a thicker, deeper attack, no plastic click sound. With flats you definitely can mimic finger plucks.

Not cheap, $20CA for 3. but they are great. Worth a try. I used to use fingers only, but now I can't put these picks down. Have transformed my playing as my plucking hand is getting worse with arthritis and I can't play as fast as I could.

Years and years of tinkering and I discovered one answer....

    Run everything flat.

If not happy, then work out what each eq dial/slider does.

If running flat gives a desperate feeling something is missing, then dial in from there. Only if essential.

with my MarkBass Vintage 500 and Blackline 250 amps, I set all controls flat. I get that pure P or Jazz tone. Of course, live I usually have to adjust,in small rooms attenuate the bass a bit usually is all I have to do.

For a laugh, and ease of loading in and out by cab at an outdoor festival,I took my Elf and one 10" cab. The sound crew laughed at first, then at soundcheck were so blown away by it that they added a mic to the DI feed. Was thunderous , from such a tiny amp.

I have Status half-wound on my Duesenberg, which seems like a good compromise between thump and definition.

agree with pete, I have D'Addario half rounds on a 34" fender p and it's my go to bass for live work.

Like pete said, you can go thumpy with a turn of the tone knob, or grindy roundwound tone by turning it up

relic jobs. If you want a bass to look like you've played it for 20 years, ummmm, PLAY it for 20 years.

Maybe put sandpaper on your forearms? (no cricket jokes, pulease :) )

I just bought the new Markbass Vintage preamp, it has exactly the same preamp as the Vintage head but no limiter knob, so the warmth and breakup is gorgeous!  Trust me you'll want both!!!  Imagine being able to rehearse with headphones and have exactly the same tones!  Also, I've never really been into drives, but the Preamp has two different drives, one of which I can really see myself using.

NOOOO I did not need to hear that, LALALALALALALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU LALALALALALALALALALA

Nowhere did he say or imply it was a victimless crime. Call off the hounds, lads.

I haven't been on here for a while, 6 months, I can't believe how worse it's become on here, ALMOST like TB, almost. Mostly much better

What I said was "it's not as bad as if someone who actually owns (and plays it) gets it stolen". sheesh
