Guys, Had a good chat with Mark at Bass Direct today ref an F1 head and he really believes that a GS112 by itself will not work well with an F1 head. Apparently 2 x Bergantino 1x12's would work much better. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Being cynical, is that because Mark doesn't sell Aguilar but does sell Berg ? Have a look on Talkbass, there's a guy there called KJung who's really knowledgeable. He's tried pretty much every amp/cab combination that you can imagine. I've read loads of times that GS12's match really well with the F1 head.

Trace Elliot AH300 Series 6 - Bargain price - £250 !

I would recommend that you carry on playing your fretted. Just play 'on the fret' rather than 'in between'. It'll help your muscle memory and should transfer across to your fretless.

Truss rod problem on my Warwick Thumb Bass.
Soliloquy replied to Soliloquy's topic in Repairs and Technical
I had a dodgy rod in my fortress one a good few years ago, contacted warwick and was able to buy a replacement direct through them - IIRC it was only about £15!
Ah, thanks ! I feel a lot better now, I thought I'd wrecked it. It's just the end bit that the adjustment tool fits into that's stripped inside. I didn't realise how stiff the necks were. I realise now that I should have done a quarter turn and left it for a bit, then another quarter turn. Maybe while pulling the neck back a bit to ease the adjustment. -
I was trying to adjust the neck refief on my fretless Thumb NT bass earlier. It wouldn't turn and then all of a sudden it did. I've stripped inside of the hex shaped thing that you put the adjustment wrench into. Can I ask any Warwick experts if this is a major problem, can you get replacement parts easily ? I love this bass and I'm really worried that I've done something major. It's the only fretless bass that I've played that actually sounds like a fretless.

I'm not sure how old this is. It's in OK condition, a few scrapes in the Tolex covering and the badge is a bit scuffed, but nothing major. The grille has been resprayed black and looks really sexy and mean. The speakers are original Trace Elliot. I think they were made from Kevlar, which is the same material found in bullet proof vests. It's heavy and large, but sounds amazing. I'd like £250 for it ono, or trade/part trade for some sort of 2x10 or 1x12 by EBS, Eden, Aguilar, EA etc. It'll have to be collection only though, owing to the size and weight. Or I could meet you somewhere.

OK I just bought this, but I really wasn't thinking when I did, It's heavy ! It sounds amazing though, there's a post I put up last week in the gear porn section stating my thoughts on this. I used TE gear for ages years ago. Since then I've gone through masses of gear, but nothing really comes close to the sound from the original TE stuff. It's really not practical for my situation though, and I need something lighter. I did a gig this evening with it and it performed amazingly, I was the happiest that I've been with my sound for years. It was a tiny little club though, I was playing with a jazz group I play for occasionally, and I turn up with this huge head and a 4x10. My rig took up most of the available space . The amp is a series 6 AH300. The case is made from some kind of tough rubbery/plastic material. It sounds great, everything works, including the UV lighting. The case is in pretty good condition, I've had it re-sprayed black and it looks really special. And it goes without saying, the UV looks really cool ! I'd like £250 ono for it, or a part trade for Markbass F1 head. Postage should be about £20.
Hi, The sadowsky was put in by Greeneking, and several people have heard the bass and advise that Sadowsky preamps are the way to go. I have never heard the bass with the original preamp. The Sadowsky is a $250 addition. I was recently advised that the original preamp from a Fender Jazz USA is £6, direct from Fender, so make of that what you will. More details of the Sadowsky here https://secure.sadowsky.com/store/product_i...;products_id=65 Cheers, Lee
Trade for a Zon Sonus 6 string ?

Here's my mean looking devil (s), an AH300 and a 1048H cab. The head is 20 years old according to the label inside, it has a plastic case which I've not seen before. I'm not sure how old the cab is. They sound amazing together. I used Trace elliot for years from the late 80's to the early 90's when I switched to SWR (I was gigging with bands when I was 15 to buy stuff, I used to have to hide from entertainment secretaries and stewards in clubs 'coz I was underage lol). I've spent a fortune over the last 10 years or so, buying gear by Epifani, Aguilar, Bergantino, EBS etc. This beats them all. How come you can spend over a thousand pounds on an amp, only to be driven mad by the incessant whirring of some cheap chinese made fans ?. The fan in this is almost totally silent, did I mention that it's 20 years old ? I want to get another 4x10 the same and a 2x10 for smaller gigs.

Marcus Miller style strap - where can you get one ?
Soliloquy posted a topic in Accessories and Misc
I want a new strap, and fancy getting something a bit special. Anyone know where you can get a Marcus Miller style one from ? -
It depends on what bass you want. Most have models that they'll build you a variation of, Sei do the Flamboyant etc, JD does the Mark King and so on. If you want truly custom then that narrows the field somewhat. Try these for truly 'custom' http://www.crimsonguitars.com/
I think the previous owner put up a youtube vid where he plays it... Lots of "jacoesque" tone as i remembered... B looked tight... Was it this one? (mp)
I just did a video of me playing Jaco's 'Teentown'. You can get quite a good approximation of his sound with the right EQ settings. I'll post a link to it when I can find the cable to connect my camera to my computer . I'm seriously thinking of withdrawing this. I'll be selling my Wal later this month, so I can wait 'til then and buy a jazz. -
Jazz basses. Horrible plinky sound. Skinny girls necks. Only sound half decent with all the bridge pickup rolled off. Can't tell you the number of times (Ok about half a dozen) I've seen a band with a 5 stringer and he never touches the B once all set. What's that all about?
I do find that sort of thing really bizzare. I play sixes mostly and I do most of my playing on the low B. If I want to play anything from low E up to low G# then it's played on the B string ( I don't use open strings too often ). It's called 'ergonomics', why move about all over the neck when you can stay in one position ?
Whats the width at the nut? Hows the B string?
The neck width at the nut is approximately 53mm, at the 1st fret it's approximately 55mm and it's 72mm at the 12th fret. The B string is perfect, it compares to my Modulus Q6 which is 35" scale. -

It's actually got more of a Marcus Miller vibe to it really though, a lot more !. It has a very, very 'modern' sound, it's most definitely not 'old school' by any stretch of the imagination. It has a fantastic slap sound. It's strung with DR Lo-rider nickels and has a great low action. -
