Its almost a year since I purchased my last big item, more from lack of playing than me exercising any restraint or anything 😅

I owned a CTM-100 in the past , great amp but I think I preferred the tone from the Little Bastard / CTM 30.

I'm still in but I keep seeing things I 'Need'. A couple of months ago it was a Fender Mustang bass, then a fretless, then a shorty stingray, now its a new high power class D amp. The gas generally subsides though. 😅

I'm really liking the idea of being able to use the amp as a preamp for recording or Di into a desk, would it be possible to have 2 switches not a single 3 position one? for me it would limit the chances of accidently switching it to fully on without a cab connected.

Maybe it’s possible to design some sort of failsafe that if the power section doesn’t see a load it shuts off and just leaves the preamp values on? I’m no engineer and I’ve no idea it that’s possible .

I've had an idea of changing the way the standby circuitry works - so while on standby, which removes high voltage to the power valves, there would still be power supplied to preamp and enable the DI out to function as well as rest of preamp.
Then, if a valve pops during a gig (which normally stops the amp from working at all) you can at least get a DI signal out of it. Very minimal cost or complexity to do this
I understand Ampeg have some sort of function for their 20 and 50W tube amps that allows them to be used without a load, dont ask me how they do that.

I dusted off my Ashdown Spyder and a fender precision that I’m barely playing for a loud rehearsal last Sunday for the first time in ages. I’m doing mostly acoustic stuff so this was a welcome change , it felt great, as good as having new stuff again.

I think a small footprint 100w all valve head somewhere along the lines of the Ashdown little bastard in terms of size should be a commercial success …if competitively priced. Don’t see why you couldn’t fit 2 KT88s in there without overheating. Martin if you could ask them to add a dummy load function where you can run the head on its own that would be amazing 🤩

I think this is the hardest part or the year , spring , when you’re bored
and what new gear.

Looking at the rules, I would say you would be fine for the tier 1 challenge (bass) but not for the tier 2 (other instruments).
I also bought a telecaster recently and had sleepless nights wondering was I in or out of the gear abstinence program 😂

Used my elf “rig” yesterday for a very tight corner in a cafe yesterday, not enough room for even a second Pa speaker. It was a life saver.

is that a bass amp? interesting... i will have to investigate.
yeah, i've seen the stubby. i don't love the eq for what i'm looking for, but if a used one popped up here, i'd probably grab it.
so that ctm-30 is the stubby in a bigger chassis. must investigate.
Yeah it’s an updated version of the LB-30, CTM-30 with the same valves arranged horizontally, a few extra features in there also. Sweet bass amp

Yeah, love them.
Wanna sell it and ship it to dublin?
I got one from a Dutch classified website shipped to Waterford a few years ago - €250. Just needed a re-valve and its sounds fab. I've often got great gear in EU mainland classified ad sites. You might have to do some trawling but there are a lot of Little Bastards out there.

It’s so light you have to careful not to yank it off the speaker cab !!
Threw my “gear bag” in the corner a few times not realising- there’s a bass amp in there . Lucky nothing negative happened

My only “complaint”’about the elf is that it’s so small sometimes I lose it 🙈

I just put a set of these on my Sandberg Basic (German stingray basically) I really like the tone . Had them on a Sandberg California VS (p bass) so I kinda knew what to expect but on the Basic the tone is less woody and more punchy , focussed. I’ll see how they get on at rehearsal .

Just bought two straps for £11. Technically I am out
I am still not going to buy big toys
I’d count them as consumable items , I wouldn’t regard them “gear”

I sometimes get the feeling that Jesus himself could commission Nelson Mandela to build a Bass in conjunction with the ghost of Jaco, NASA could do the design in partnership with Leonardo Da Vinci, and Lobster would still find a reason not to like it.
It’s good to know all potential flaws of a bass , you can decide “that fault doesn’t bother me “ for yourself and ignore it . At least you know what someone mightn’t like .

It’s such a pity because they look cool, if slightly pointless

The basic finishing and set up will be human. The rest of the construction process, automated.
Let's not ignore the fact the Mexican factory has pumped out some stonkingly good quality basses and guitars for the best part of a decade now. So, imo, specifically being from Mexico has very little do with this.
Exactly, the player and vintera stuff is excellent , it’s a company problem not a country problem

Yes even 'consumables' like strings, leads, valves (if you're into that) etc have become very pricey.
