I sub in and out for a jazz band and their bass player has an elf also , I used his rig once and for some reason the sound he was getting was much cleaner and warmer than mine , I noticed he had the gain up at 3 O,clock , the bass up well past 2 o clock , and the treble , mids and volume down really low. Just used the volume for more, well volume. I tried this and got the same effect with my own amp. Just a funny setup but gave a great tone .

Hélas, it's totally normal on Fender instruments and and an usual complaint.
You could try some linear taper pots instead logarithmic (aka audio) as it will work (a bit) better for your needs or try some very tight tolerance models, which are expensive.
Remember that whatever people say CTS or CRL or whatever with a carbon (resistive) track are cheapos things will 30% tolerance or even higher, so not precise at all!
That's fine, its not my guitar and and as it seems to be a normal phenomenon for fender electric guitars i'll leave its alone.

Just doing a small repair of a jack output socket for a friend on his tele (sorted) and I noticed that the volume and tone pots , while working fine, only really seem to engage in the last few increments , like between 8 -10 ish ? Is that normal . It’s a 20-30 year old fender telecaster (USA)

Worst Amps.
1. A 1980s Carlsbro Cobra 90. I blew the speaker twice in it, very underpowered amp.
2. TC BH250. Sounded OK but died shortly after I bought it.
3. Ampeg Portaflex 350 head, again no welly at all.

About a year ago I did a active to passive conversion on my Sandberg California VS (P bass). I replaced the big pole peace delano style pickups with more aggressive sounding Lollar PB90s. As I already have a Fender P bass I decided a few months ago to put a set of LaBella low tension flats on this bass and keep rounds on the P bass. Absolutely love the sound, a lovely warm thump, not suitable for all genres of music but I sometimes play with a New Orleans type jazz band and its fits in like a glove, its almost 'upright bass' sounding. Funnily enough I prefer rounds on a fretless, despite the 'chews up the fretboard' mythology.

I think I’m out - Dr Green bass reverb pedal

Is there a list of participants yet ?

I’m in
however if a band has a kitty and new gear is purchased, e.g. a Pa speaker or something, does that count?

I accidentally bought a fretless bass during the year but I’m well up for gear abstention 2025

I know it’s conventional wisdom to put flats on a fretless to save the fingerboard or whatever but I’ve put a set of light gage round nickels on my fretless bass and I much prefer it. I think the sound from a fretless is dark enough without adding to it.

If/when the fretless models come out, I’m going to have a hard time saying no.
I'll be jumping on that as soon as it becomes available.

I've noticed over the last few years of so Thomann don't seem to hold much stock anymore. I thought originally it was due to pandemic logistics issue but it looks like its continuing on into 2025. I realize they're probably saving money by not holding loads of inventory but when other on-line stores have the same items ready to ship it doesn't seem to make sense to be losing impatient customers. Sorry if there's a thread already on this subject.

Basschat = Yellow Pages...
Not just here for the nice things in life...
Nice ya sorted... now, a pic of the bass and or offending item
The little piece of metal that holds on to the tip of the jack plug was bent too far inwards and was actually pushing the plug outwards losing connection.

I'd start with (another) brand new battery, and a look-see at the Stereo Jack that prolly uses the Ring Connection on the Batt Ground to Sleeve Connection, Signal Ground to complete the circuit.
Paul you are a star, I just had to re-bend the jack catch on the + tip and it worked ! Thanks again for your advice !

What I found that there are loads of guitarists out there in your situation, and probably singers, drummers on the other hand are like hens teeth, the good ones are always in about 3/4 bands already. One way to get back playing is to team up with a decent guitarist and singer and go acoustic. If you're decent you'd be surprised how many gigs you could pick up. Be warned you might need to sing a bit.

Hi There
I wonder would anyone have experienced this sort of preamp-failure. The Active circuitry wont work at all and with the battery still in place it will only work when the volume is turned up full. The bass will only work in passive mode when the battery is removed completely. No signs of broken wires from battery box or in main body wiring in general. Its a 'Basic' Model.

Im currently in a 5 piece indie/rock covers band playing small/medium pubs say 50-150 people. Current rig is a flats loaded Jazz bass into a Mesa Walkabout head into a Barefaced original compact cab. I have an ‘always on’ cali76 compressor and a Mosfet bass drive for some rockier songs. Volume wise im never over quarter of the way on the Mesa’s volume pot and we do feed a little bass to FOH. However, recently the singer wants less stage volume and the PA to do most of the work and he stands out front during sound check and can tweak levels/mix as necessary. In view of this im wondering if i could get away with going back ‘all valve’ with the 30w ashdowns. I like my tone oldschool with a bit of hair but not full on mushy distortion. As the PA will be doing most of the work i think i could get away with it. Ive had an LB before but that was through a knackered old ampeg 1x15 and i have read my Barefaced is supposedly uber efficient. Has anyone done something similar with decent results? Whilst i get stage volume will be lower in my new scenario i still want to feel and hear that thump behind me
I’ve used it a few times with a barefaced 210 with excellent results , plenty loud on stage and as you say the pa is doing most of the heavy lifting you should be fine. Best of luck

Thanks. I used a single One10 with my Elf on Friday as playing a very acoustically efficient venue (see gigs thread) but have just acquired a Two10… as yet untested.
Have to admit I turn the Elf off at half time! Possibly scared by this thread 😂
But with an active Sandberg I know I can cope in many places with the small one.
I’ve used the elf with the barefaced two10 and it has heaps of poke.

I actually sold my ctm100 , found it a bit impractical for the kinda bands I was playing with.
