  1. Chat GPT or Google Bard lyrics surely can't be any worse than those written by Noel Gallagher, Robert Plant, Simon Le Bon, Jim Morrison, Neal Peart, Gene Simmons or whoever else in Kiss is guilty and AC/DC? Of course I could add about 100 more names to that list but I've made my point and there's no debating it.
  2. Considering the mountains of tripe many human 'artists' have been putting out over the last 60 years, IMO it's time to let the machines have a go
  3. If anyone sang like that in any pubs I know they'd be thrown out and barred
  4. There's a serious mismatch between the fantastic visuals and a weak as gypsy's kiss rendition of a dreary song
  5. It's fine if you watch the visuals with the sound at zero and put some decent music on in the background. The shot of the pinkish mountains reminds me of the cover of Amber by Autechre. Incidentally i had Silverside off that album as my choice of accompanying music and it works well
  6. Each to their own and erm... all that jazz...but I lasted for around 40 seconds. As with jazz in general it's just self indulgent musical circle jerking...IMO of course.
  7. depending on the tune I'll use a combination of all my plucking digits, from just the thumb or index finger on their own to all of them, even the pinky on occasion. Also like to use a hybrid style with a pick, middle and ring fingers. I nicked that from Tommy Emmanuel.
  8. Agreed. There are quite a lot of online articles about Brit bands who were a big deal on the home front but did nowt in North America e.g. Madness, Jam, Blur, Weller..... Let's face it, that's a very long list and you can be a biggish thing in Blighty but not actually sell many records. I mean, The Jam have never had an album go platinum in the UK while Bush's first two albums went multi-platinum in the US and Canada but only gold and silver in the UK. Have to admit if I was a pro I'd rather be in Bush's shoes.
  9. In the car this aft I had Travelling Without Moving on fairly loud. Why wouldn't you with a bassline like this.... not the best quality live version out there but this one features Zender
  10. when I saw your text above the pic my first thought was 'oh no, has the Bachelor Boy passed away this afternoon!'
  11. Even though mrs Spiders is a music lover with eclectic taste the only time we mention music is to put on Alexa to cover any unwanted sounds or to get shot of an earworm. Could be that we have little in common taste-wise
  12. It just occurred to me that outside of BC and any band I might be in I very rarely have chats about music with anyone else, particularly women and never ever on any first dates I've been on. Does anyone else find the same?
  13. Oh I dunno, look at the dumpster load of trash (as they say over there) that came out of the US rock scene after Grunge. Were Bush any worse than Puddle of Mudd, Creed, Staind, Hoobastink, Three Days Grace, Godsmack, Shinedown, Matchbox 20 and any other bands with 'Three' or 'Third' in their name? I'd say not although they weren't much cop that's true. Should we include Foo Fighters there as well?
  14. Just been listening to The Fixx's Shuttered Room while I work. They were quite successful in North America but nowt even scraping the UK top 40 singles chart which I find surprising considering how similarish bands like Tears for Fears and Talk Talk were successful in the 80s. IMO this tune should've been top 10 over to youse 👉
  15. Have to say viz pub venues etc I'd much rather see a good covers band playing material I like than some anonymous band doing their own thing. You at least get a variety of songs unlike tribute bands. Why anybody wants to see AC/DC, Pink Floyd and Oasis tribute acts beats me. Then again, why anyone would want to see the originals also goes right over my head.
  16. I'm not much into watching covers bands anymore but there were some cracking jive outfits around the London area in the 90s that put on some great nights out. If covers bands put on an entertaining show with banter and moves then 👍. If they just shoe gaze and mumble 'thanks' after every song then 🖕
  17. Having strong prejudices, I'd never touch a 5 stringer again as i associate it with with nu-metal. Also why I avoid drop D tuning on my guitars.
  18. But never forget, footie is better than music!
  19. Dear oh dear, you got your priorities mixed up. I remember a story about Half Man Half Biscuit turning down a chance to appear on The Tube as Tranmere had a home game. Take note!😁
  20. I have both Sigrid's albums and they get a regular spins. She's just great, her natural prettiness, no heavy make up and visual gimmicks, fantastic voice, slinky moves oh and yeah and really good songs. I'm generally not a fan of white rock and pop vocalists. Much prefer female. There are just 3 or 4 whose vocals I like. The majority range from the passably mediocre at one end to the truly abysmal at the other. Viz male vocals I tend to prefer the great soul singers from Otis to Luther.
  21. I've bought a 5 string once but didn't get on with it. I play a lot of funky slap n' pop stuff....😱....and only 4 strings will do.
  22. Chilling along the the pretty fine Kompakt album Looping State of Mind by The Field. Swedish minimalist electronica at its best IMO
  23. Surely in Swindon's the running though Trowbridge is grim.
