  1. I’ve used these for some years https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323820720590

they are Gotoh large size strap button/holders that hold strap really well and can also manage to take the good old grolsch type rubber bottle washer for added secureness. Or buy these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fender-Strap-Blocks-2-Pair/dp/B00B5LDMH6/ref=asc_df_B00B5LDMH6/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310810391039&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16361758994654098986&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045763&hvtargid=pla-406164098313&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

I picked up this very nice Ibanez SR 750 last year, not quite the wood I preferred but with Nordstrand pickups and the Ibanez passive/active switching.

Problem at first…..the active mid control had no effect. I looked at the wiring and was surprised and how much was pressed in and packed down, I couldn’t believe Ibanez could use so much. (I’ve put in three way active units before with half the amount of wires in other basses)  I finally found an unsecured wire coming off the mid control to a small board, soldered it in and the mid now works.
The problem now is that in passive mode the balance control works weird….in centre it’s okay but turning to the bridge or neck pickup yields quite a drop in volume until the control is set right back or right forward and even then it’s not as powerful as pre the active repairs.

Any ideas because I have none left.

Anyone have an Ibanez bass that they’ve found a better active unit for.

    Thanks in advance..

……thinking maybe an errant earthing problem may be cutting into the signal somehow?

  4. This cab has been on Ebay with some interest offers. I forwarded an acceptance of an offer at £325 on EBay but so far I haven’t heard back so I’ll put the price here for the same at £325….. first come first bought……as new, with new cover, mega cabinet.

£350 for both the cabinet and fitted Roqsolid cover, both are as new. I've used it once only alongside a Ninja 2x12" which was a huge sound!

I think this cab has a ceramic speaker hence the weightier cab. Its also larger and therefore heftier in sound over the usual sized MB single 12" cabs.

It can easily pair up with another 8 ohm cabinet to present a 4 ohm load to your amp, which usually means getting the most power/volume out of the amp.

These cabs were around £560-600 new without cover (Roqsolid cover cost me around £50+) so this is a great price for an as new cab and cover.

    Collection/trial welcome, I am down the A3 Hampshire/Surrey borderland or I can meet up the A3 / M25 interchange.

Postage can be arranged, looks like from £15 upwards for extra insurance.

    Now on EBay.

  5. messed up putting the price in....its £95 includes UK post.

A set of Bartolini Precision pickups in as new condition, a couple of gigs only before dismantling the bass they were in....no screws or springs. Very good pickups, great sounding, clear and gutsy.

    From Bartolini:

"Our b-axis P-Bass® Pickups are all about enormous, clear tone. They feature a new and unique fully encapsulated Alnico V exposed pole design, and yet they are still fully shielded like all our enclosed pickups. The cable is shielded as well. b-axis Jazz bass pickups are dual-inline hum-cancelling design for use in professional venues and studios. They are sweat-proof and won’t make nasty noises if you touch them.
b-axis pickups are super punchy and bright, but also warm. They have outstanding articulation, attack, and harmonic response. Musicians who play jazz, rock, country, gospel, and hip-hop are already finding their voice in b-axis pickups.

    Here you go, Overland Express.

Used them loads after a recommendation on here and they were really good but I didn`t claim on their insurance. As they are now advertising themselves as a "guitar courier" I would give it a try. The main advantage of them, is you can actually phone up and speak to them.

    Shocking I know :D

Just read a bit and it must be in a hard case. But to be honest, I wouldn`t send a bass without one these days. A cheap one from Gear4muscic or a s/hand one would do the job.

they appear to use the same couriers as Parcel2Go. I assume they’ve set up a ‘deal’ for compensation.

Word of warning from experience…..using the online company Parcel2Go that gives quotes for UPS DHL etc presented problems with a loss in transit of my goods. Parcel2Go finally explained after a week that I should be getting in touch directly with the courier I’d chosen and that they had nothing to do with it! I finally found my item stuck in a warehouse just a few miles from its original postal area.

Hey, so I'm in the market for some new headphones. Over the ear type not buds. Would be primarily for listening to music through HI-FI set up, my PC and using to play along to/learn songs. Decent bass response is a must. Budget would be up to and around £300.00. Was wondering if any of you could give me some recommendations?  Thanks in advance :)

I have KRK -KNS-8400. They have an inline volume control, didnt think they'd be good to use but I'm actually okay with them for listening and recording bass onto iMac/Logic.

I’ve travelled with a guitar on both EasyJet and ElAl. No charge but size limited and a bass would be too big. I have a 12fret parlour guitar which is just right. Saw a guy trying to get on with a bass in a soft case once. How he got past the ground staff I have no idea, but the cabin crew would not let it on and were offering to put in the hold!!!!

From experience…..you can get past ground staff but they are often the same ones at the check in dock station at the plane’s gate, if they’ve already warned you once they’ll get ya at the plane.

I think it’s safest to call the airline you will be travelling on, I would think it’s possible, just let other passengers know you’ve paid for the seat!…….(Many years ago I was reading a Rufus Reid book of music that included travelling with double bass and sure enough, he had pictures of his bass on a plane seat, upside down with the neck towards the floor).

I used to always carry my bass in a soft case on all U.K. flights to Europe….the first airline to start questioning was Easy Jet!

  11. The  bass body and bridge are sold. I might be putting up the pickups and Stellatone another time as separate items.

Anyone interested in this body for a project?

This was originally for a 33" fretted scale bass I'd made a couple of years ago but the neck would not settle, I even moved the bridge back a little at one point to try and compensate but to no avail, scrapped the neck, expensive choice!

This body is of three piece ash with around 10 coats of Tru Oil with tru oil sealer, it does have a few minor marks which can be finely sanded back and re-oiled if you wanted.

I am leaving the rear string ferrules, Warwick pickup screws and inserts (see pic) and small brass neck screw cups. The rear round plate does not have internal screw supports as I was going to replace them with some wenge but never got around to it.

(If you were interested in the bridge and pickups and Stellatone with the body please add that in your pm/message and we can look into those extras).

I've got close approx of weight and size as:

    Weight 1.8kg

    Length 46cm    Width 31cm    thick 39/40cm

I'm guessing postage will be anything around £10-15 UK TBC.

The sound clip was with a volume control and a Stellatone T6 tone control unit which is actually a pretty good alternative to a simple tone knob (I can provide that as well).
