I have had a few jobs done by Jim Fleeting recently. He has been like a breath of fresh air. The work is great. the timescale is as he says it will be and the comms are great. It is like being in a parallel universe compared to my normal luthier experiences.
Selling out is working in a job that you do not like because you need to be able to pay your bills. I happen to like my job, but would jump at the chance to sell out as a full time musician. All this talk of "keeping it real etc" totally ignores the way the industry works. Massive Attack bloke writer retired from music a long time ago but makes money that the rest of us would cry about every year from people paying to use his music in this, that and the other.
Financially, the Video Game industry makes the Music industry look like children playing shop with plastic money and a till which goes "ching" every time it is opened.
Selling out as a musician? Make enough money from music to not have to work a day job and even (just imagine) fund a decent pension pot? Yes please.

Phil Manzanera introduces a flamenco player to his first time ever with an electric guitar.

Nice playing and everything, I would also like to hear more of him. First time ever? I sincerely doubt that.
Different angles of the piece of Rosewood which will be the neck + fingerboard. The same piece of wood will be used to create a big one piece pickup cover which will house both J pickups in a big box.

The electronics are pretty beefy. There is a really healthy signal out of it with Vol/Balance/Treble/Mid/Bass controls. It is not light but not in the house at the moment so I cannot weigh it. I will try and do so tomorrow.
It is a cracking piece of wood. I know you are a man who recognises a cracking piece of wood when you see one!
I will also have a big, fat pickup cover which will be made out of the same piece of wood as the neck/fingerboard which will house the 2 x Fralin J5 things as well as acting as a ramp thang. The MM5 idea is not as lush as more lovely rosewood.
I guess the ACME/DB thing is horses for courses. I have a 12" ACME cab and I could not be happier with the noise it makes. I love the real LF heft it gives me. The extension all the way down to the bottom B is lush beyond. It is like sitting on a cushion of molten chocolate. And I mean that in a good way.
