1. Hello, So I have a Fender Precision bass with the '62 pickup that came as standard. I'm not a huge fan of the raised pole pieces (sometimes the low E string catches the pole and 'pops' through the amp). I've lowered the pickups slightly and softened my attack, but it still happens every now and then. My question is - does the Fender Pure Vintage '63 pickup have these same raised pole pieces? And is it possible to alter the pole piece height of a pickup? The Fender site says that both the '62 and '63 have 'Flush-mount polepieces', but as this is not the case for my '62 I thought I would get a second opinion. The '63 sounds like a great pickup, slightly hotter and more bass heavy than the '62, so I'm already considering getting one. But the pole piece height is the deal breaker here. Thanks,
2.
it is possible to run an 8 Ohm cab off a 4 Ohm ampeg all tube head (i did for a short while while awaiting my HLF 4 Ohm cab) without any problems but it is not recommended according to forums I looked into (something to do with shortning tube life? But I could be wrong). Likewise switching on a tube head without it being connected to a cab is a big no-no and waiting 20 minutes for the tubes to warm up before coming out of stand-by, and leaving the tubes to cool down after a gig before moving the head! So many new rules to learn!
I think you're right - at low volumes it would probably be fine but I'd rather not. Those things can be expensive to fix, even just to re-valve, so I'd like to play it safe!
3.
Before you start spending money and dismantling good gear wouldn't it be a good idea to ask Ampeg if it is possible to run a single 8 ohm load off the 4 ohm tap?
Read another post about someone who asked Ampeg this very question, and they said it was not a good idea. Don't want to blow the output transformer on the amp.
4.
Don't waste your money modding, sell the 210 as it is and replace it with a portable 4ohm cab that you like the sound of.
I had considered doing just this, but it's going to be much cheaper to just swap out the speakers. The cab is cosmetically poor (it's been well gigged) and I wouldn't get much for it - certainly not enough to fund a new cab. Whereas I can buy a couple of high quality Eminence speakers for around £150 and just fit them myself. Makes much more sense and saves me a fair bit of money.
5. I'm not so much in love with the sound of the 210 - what I am a fan of is it's portability and ease of use in smaller gigs. So I am happy to play around with speakers and change the sound of the cab. Thanks 4stringslow - that clears it all up. I'll go ahead and swap out the speakers. Cheers.
6. Hello, Firstly, apologies if this has been asked before. I've had a little search and read some similar stories, but I just wanted to double check what I was doing was correct. So I have an Ampeg SVT VR and currently run it at 4ohms through a 410 - sounds great. However, as the amp only runs at 4 or 2 ohms, it has made my 8ohm 210 cab redundant. I love this cab and for smaller gigs it is much more suitable that it's bigger 410 brother. I have opened up the 210 and, as I thought, it has two 16ohm eminence speakers wired in parallel - giving the 8ohm total. My question is, could I fit two 10inch 8ohm speakers, wired just the same in parallel, to give a total rating of 4ohms? And these new speakers are rated at 200w each - is that going to be enough when wired together for the 300w SVT? Many thanks in advance, Chris. Just in case it makes any difference - the cab is the TC Electronic BC210 (http://www.tcelectronic.com/bc210/) - the 8ohm speakers I was looking at wiring in are these Eminence Legends (https://www.bax-shop...h-speaker#specs)
7. SOLD Set of Fender 'Schaller Style' Strap Locks. Pretty much brand new, only on a bass for a few days. All bits and bobs included. £10 inc. UK postage. They look exactly like these -
8. Hello, So I tried these strings out, maybe played for about 30 mins before deciding they weren't for me. Completely untrimmed and still in original packaging. £20 inc. free UK postage.
9. Hello, Used these for about three weeks before moving on to different strings. They are great strings, just a bit low tension for me! Bought for £50, trimmed slightly to fit a Fender Precision Bass. Still a lot of life left in these! Grab yourself a bargain. £20 inc. free UK postage.
10. Hello, I'm looking to get a set of these strings and wondered if anyone had any tips on the cheapest place to buy them? DV247 has them at £32 plus £5 postage, which isn't bad. But is there anything better?
11.
What is the weight please?
Searched online and found it listed as 27 pounds, but I'll weigh mine and double check.
12. SOLD PENDING Price drop - £1200. Open to offers. For sale is my 2015 Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass. Ash body with a natural finish, maple neck. It has both precision and jazz pickups that can be run active or passive, so this thing is incredibly versatile when it comes to tone. Just the precision pickup gives you that classic p-bass tone, just the Jazz and you get the Jaco bite. Blending the two together sounds great, and with the active electronics you can boost or cut the bass, middle and treble (and achieve some amazing slap tones!). I have had the bass about 6 months and have only used it for a few gigs and a bit of recording. The condition is essentially new, it's immaculate other than a couple of very small scratches from pick playing on the pick guard, and one very small mark on the back of the headstock. This bass has only has very light use and has always been kept in its hard case (also included). These have actually been discontinued by Fender and so are getting harder and harder to find. I am based in Keynsham, in between Bristol and Bath, but happy to sort out a courier if necessary. This is a really great bass at a great price. You are more than welcome to come and try it out, and If you would like more information or photos, then just get in touch. I'm looking to get a new Fender American Standard Precision Bass, and would consider a trade depending on age / condition. This bass is worth a little more than the standard but do get in touch and we can sort something out. Thanks, Chris.
13. Just emailed Rotosound and had this response: The Swing 66 Nickel are pure nickel, and the standard Swing 66 are pure stainless, whereas the Rotobass are a stainless/nickel mixture. The price difference in the Rotobass is not as much leaving the silk off as a nickel/steel mixture is usually less expensive when purchasing string making material than pure steel of either nickel or stainless. Now we know!
14. Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. I was looking at the Nickel Rotosound Swing 66 bass strings, and noticed that they also sold a cheaper Rotobass RB45 Nickel string. Is this the same string, just without the silk wrapping? Does this matter? Or is it just a cheaper, lower quality string? Many thanks.
15.
Do you have to replace the lot? Surely your Tech should be able to see what needs changing and what doesn't. Pre amp valves are usually very long life. Who are you getting to service it? BTW, Watford Valves have a good rep and I'm sure the kit is fine, I'd just make sure you needed them
I will probable just replace the output valves - they are stock and the amp is a few years old now. But it works out as a good price to buy the full set, even if I do not use the preamp valves straight away.
16. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the full Revalve kits from Watford Valves? I have an Orange AD200b that could do with a service, and was considering this https://www.watfordvalves.com/product_detail.asp?id=2236 Just wanted to get your opinions and experience on these valves. Thanks, Chris.
